Avis Lang

For almost two decades, Avis Lang has collaborated with the ubiquitous space advocate Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of the Hayden Planetarium in New York City. At first she served as the senior editor responsible for his Natural History magazine column, "Universe." A number of the columns done on her watch later found their way into Tyson’s anthologies. Following the cessation of the column, she edited his book SPACE CHRONICLES: Facing the Ultimate Frontier (W. W. Norton, 2012). Their most recent collaboration is the co-authorship of ACCESSORY TO WAR: The Unspoken Alliance Between Astrophysics and the Military (W. W. Norton, 2018). Formerly a Vancouver-based art historian, curator, and essayist, Lang subsequently taught English composition at the City University of New York and is now a research associate at the Hayden Planetarium.
