Got Math? I sure didn't when I was a kid. In fact, I hated it! In third grade I told my mom I had a stomach ache and she said we would go to the doctor. My response? "Yay! I get to miss math!" That gave my mom a clue about my health. It was in my head, not my tummy. Math always seemed so hard to me but it isn't really easy or hard; it's just math. When it seems easy, that means it's understandable. When it seems hard, it's still confusing to you. When I grew up, I decided to become a teacher. Along the way, I met an amazing teacher who told me she thought teaching math with stories really helped kids learn. I tried it and she was right. There was only one thing stopping me from doing this with my students. There weren't very many math stories. So I decided to write some myself. Sir Cumference and the First Round Table and Amanda Bean's Amazing Dream were my first two books. People seemed to like them and now I have written 17 math picture books. So thanks for reading about numbers, shapes, and interesting problems. I hope all the silly puns and word play will help you remember the math and make it understandable.
