He published his first novel, Primitive War, at the age of 22. His influences as a writer include Cormac McCarthy, Tim O'Brien, Michael Crichton, and fellow Kentucky Colonel Hunter S. Thompson. Colonel Ethan Pettus was commissioned an Honorable Kentucky Colonel in 2022, at the age of 27, by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear for his published works.
