Everyone has a skeleton in their closet. Mine is real. When people ask me how I got started as a writer, I point back to 1963 when I was seven and my uncle disappeared. Fast forward forty years when his skeleton (originally identified as a woman's) was rediscovered in an evidence room at the sheriff's department. After his face was recreated by a forensic anthropologist, he was identified and we were able to lay him to rest. My uncle had been shot and left to die in a creek bed. This story and the shadow it cast over my family for all those years is the basis for my first mystery.  Having grown up reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, and Agatha Christie, I was drawn to the cozy mystery genre. Finally, I retired after thirty-three years as a high school journalism and English teacher, and I decided to write my uncle's story. I wanted to imagine a reason for his death that I could live with. After several starts and stops, I published my first mystery, "Sharpe Shooter: Skeleton in the Closet." I was hooked on writing and on the cozy mystery genre. I've always used humor to deal with life's follies, which is why I call my books "Mysteries with Heart & Humor." In 2019, a week before my 40th wedding anniversary, I hit the USA Today Bestseller List with my 16th book. This was a bucket list accomplishment. With two grown children out of the nest, I live with my husband and our rescue dog, Maddie. Besides writing, I enjoy playing with my grandchildren, photography, traveling, and thrifting vintage treasures. Check out my website at or on Facebook at
