Rob Goodman is Assistant Professor of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson University. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 2018 and was previously a U.S. House and Senate speechwriter. His most recent book is Words on Fire: Eloquence and Its Conditions (Cambridge University Press, 2022). He is also the co-author of A Mind at Play: How Claude Shannon Invented the Information Age (Simon & Schuster, 2017) and Rome's Last Citizen: The Life and Legacy of Cato, Mortal Enemy of Caesar (Thomas Dunne, 2012). He has written for publications including Slate, The Atlantic, Politico, and Aeon.
