Story
When 13-year-old Mia finally reveals a closely-guarded secret, it soon echoes throughout her school. She was born with synesthesia, a neurological cross-wiring that lets her see sounds, taste shapes, and smell colors. To Mia, the letter A glows with faded sunflower-yellow, screeching chalk sizzles with jagged red sparks, and her cat's voice puffs with orange-mango haze. How can Mia "the alien" find acceptance and self-worth?

Story
Rapunzel is having the ultimate bad day. She's been stolen by a witch, may have a ghost for a roommate, and doesn't even have a decent brush for her hair. Prince Benjamin's got it pretty tough, too. His father wants him to be more kingly, his mother wants him to never leave her sight, and his cousin wants to get him into as much trouble as possible (possibly with a troll). Both Rapunzel and Prince Benjamin are trapped - in very different ways. Once their paths cross, well, that's when things get really strange.

In the words of a 9 yr old
What made the experience of listening to 11 Birthdays the most enjoyable?
My name is Jackson, and I read this book for Battle of the books. I am 9. I thought it was going to be a girly book, but it wasn't. It was really good. I liked the person who read it. They had great voices and made it sound real. I liked the way the book left you wondering what would happen next. You were rooting for the two main characters the whole time. you wanted them to succeed. You'd think it would be boring to repeat a day, but this book was not boring. It had us all hooked.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the twist. You'll have to read it to see what I mean. No spoliers from me.
Which character – as performed by Kathleen McInerney – was your favorite?
The old lady with the duck shaped birthmark!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It builds up and resets so much. I didn't cry, but I yelled out frustrated every time the day repeated.
Any additional comments?
You should read it! You wont be disappointed.

Great Fun!
If you could sum up 11 Birthdays in three words, what would they be?
Two kids experience the same day 11 times in a row, until they figure out how to
get their lives back to normal.
What did you like best about this story?
The way Wendy Mass writes makes it great fun for kids.
What does Kathleen McInerney bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Expressions, and voices, and the right pace.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Probably not

Perfect Family listening
Veteran narrator Kathleen McInerney is perfectly matched with author Wendy Mass in this naturalistic book about 11 year old Amanda and her best boy friend Leo - with a touch of magic realism thrown in to help them get through a year of being on the outs with each other. This story captivated our whole family (including girls ages 8 and 11) on a 6 hour drive last weekend - I only wished it had been 30 minutes longer because as soon as it finished the "I'm bored" chorus started. McInerney deftly handles both narration and the true to life dialogue.

Nicely Done
The book was very nice, I myself am 12 and it was interesting to see how my 11th birthday was different from Leo and Amandas’. I soon found out that our birthdays were extremely different.
About the age range. So, there are no inappropriate scenes in the book, no cursing, no inappropriate conversations or anything. The only thing I would be worried about would be the level of understanding. Probably about 8+ depending on how intelligent your child is. The book is quite confusing at times, and I had to read it twice before I completely understood it.
Now about direction. The book was definitely directed toward young teen and tween girls. This book is not explaining the changes of life, and is basically a fictional story about two 11 year olds. 😊
