Publisher's Summary

You might think you know what happened in the tragic shooting of Breonna Taylor, but no one knows that better than the lead officer on the scene, Sergeant John Mattingly.

However, with the full support of the mainstream media, "Black Lives Matter" activists and other leftist groups immediately pounced on the tragedy, exploiting Breonna's death and twisting the story—in some cases, telling outright lies—to bolster a shameful “All Cops Are Bastards" narrative and radical “Defund the Police" agenda.

In 12 Seconds in the Dark: A Police Officer's Firsthand Account of the Breonna Taylor Raid, Sgt. Mattingly tells what really happened that horrible night. A 20-year police veteran with an impeccable record, Mattingly takes listeners inside the Louisville Metro Police Department's response to suspected criminal activity that night, debunking lie after lie about what happened, including:

  • The officers followed standard forced-entry protocol—and even gave the suspect more time than usual to respond before entering.
  • Taylor's boyfriend inside the apartment most certainly knew it was the police who were at his door, despite falsely claiming the police did not announce or identify themselves.
  • Breonna should not have died that night, but her death did not happen the way the media told you.

In this gritty and suspenseful true story, Mattingly sets the record straight on this shocking story that gripped the nation.

Facts instead of false narratives

Nice to hear the actual events of what happened instead of what MSM and social media were "reporting"

About Time

It's refreshing to hear truth after two years of lies, watching Louisville be destroyed & lives torn apart. My prayers are with the officers involved & may Breeona rest in peace. It's very tragic that K.W. caused so much pain & chaos. He's the guilty one.

this needs heard

honestly I feel this explains the situation perfectly from his perspective and his role in the warrant served. the media loves falsehoods and I back the blue. while this was a tragedy the cops involved didn't deserve what they received by the very department they had given their lives to. this is a book that should be widely distributed.

Good book, but I expected more.

This is still a good read/listen, but I thought it would explain more about the case building on Breonna. Mattingly wasn’t even involved in the case leading up to the warrant execution. The officers who were asked for help, and he volunteered. Maybe it’s just me, but I expected it to be more about the background and lead up to the actual warrant. He glosses over it because he wasn’t involved in the case building.

That being said, he did volunteer, he was shot, and he returned fire. He desperately wants to get his story out. He has been slandered and turned on by the department he dedicated his life too. He mentions a 3 hour interview with Good Morning America where they used 5 minutes and slanted it.

It’s an interesting read, I just expected more details. The narrator must have also been paid by the job cuz he speed reads this book.

Truth rings true

This story feels like someone that you care about is just sitting down and telling you their perspective and their experience. it’s definitely not a spin peace it’s heartfelt and accountable I genuinely would recommend this book to anyone who has questions about what happened that night.

A must read.

Really puts the media and politicians on blast. Another reason why you shouldn't join a mob push without reading the facts

Well worth my time.

Fantastic insight to a story that has only been told by one side. God bless the men that help to keep poison from our children.
