This was such a fun download. It is finally nice where I live and we just did a campfire over the weekend. I was telling my son how we used to read scary stories as a kid and he asked me to tell one...I totally blanked.
I found this and listened to a couple of the stories..thought it was great and so excited to have found this audiobook and plan to play it for him at the next campfire this weekend.

Something about the dark night, under the stars, and around the campfire just always calls for campfire stories. It can be hard either coming up with a good story or listening to Uncle Rob's story he has shared 14 times. This book does the job for you and shares brand-new amazing campfire stories you have never heard. The stories are perfect for entertainment, suspense, and a memorable experience around the campfire. I am so excited! After many duds, this Campfire Story book lives up to its name!
I grew up reading Alvin Schwartz’s Scary Stories trilogy, “In A Dark, Dark Room,” and, “Ghosts.” I loved them so much, I re-typed, counted and numbered every word in them so I could use them in reading drills with my K-3 students. These stories are folklore and urban legends reminiscent of Schwartz’ books, though some are not as expertly told and some are a bit violent for younger grades. I am still very excited to see the traditional American Scary Stories genre lives on. Although variants of Bloody Fingers and The Viper are also in Schwartz’ books, most of the stories are new, or are Urban Legends not as widely printed. There are jump scares, suspense, and some funny ones. There are many Urban Legends, which tend to be underrepresented in most books, about killers and stalkers, and things being not as they appear. They are modern parables about being careful in unfamiliar settings. My main criticism is I wish the author had a better sense of his audience. Some of them, like Story 2 about the free WiFi, are appropriate for grade school (about grade 3-young adult), but others are too scary for below Junior High (unless you know your child is not sensitive…I’ve known a couple 2nd graders who could hang with horror stories). There is one I wish would be revised because it involves gory violence against a child’s pet. And I am strongly against banning books like the Scary Stories trilogy. I’ve read another version of the same story where no children or pets are harmed, but it was still just as scary, because the fear of harm is (indirectly) evoked. Sometimes subtlety like that works better and kids who are ready for the full implications understand it, while younger ones may not. Also, the stories that are word plays are made too obvious, or the word play is not effective. For example, in one oral story (SPOILER ALERT) I have heard, there is a coffin that comes through a window. into a couple’s house and comes flying right at the guy. He asks his wife for some Robitussin. She asks why. He says, “To stop the coffin!” Instead, in this book they described the coffin coming in and the guy reached for some cough syrup and threw it at the casket. “And the coffin ceased to advance.” Not sure if that’s the exact quote, but it just doesn’t have the same effect. The punchline of “Vinder Viper” is obvious from the start, in this book, but “the Viper,” as it was called in Schwartz’s Scary Stories, is hilarious. Maybe the super obvious wordplays would be fun for grades K-2. And there are quite a few stories that were well told, and fun for the whole family, including adults. The important thing is to LISTEN TO THIS BOOK BEFORE LETTING Primary students and younger listen (unless you know they are fearless). If my kids were young, I’d go through the chapters, mark which ones to skip, and listen with them. I offer critique because I think this author is very promising, and I’d love to hear another of his books! Or more than one, and I’d like to be able to send one home with kids, knowing it’s a great fit for their age. I loved hearing a childhood favorite, “One More Space,” (Gr. 6-Adult) and was thrilled to see, “The Girl Who Stood on a Grave.” (Gr. 4-8). I hope lots of people will take the time to review this book for their kids, or listen as a family and discuss. This is absolutely a standout book. I had listened to over 25-30 Scary Stories books and story podcasts on Audible, and I was about to give up! It’s in my top 3 Kids’ Audible Scary Story books (including Schwartz himself), and Top 5 for all ages. This is not, like most, a book that parents have to grit their teeth and bear listening to with their kids. It is a book that will get people of all ages in a spooky state of mind. It will bring back the feeling of sitting around a campfire or under the covers with a flashlight, reading some of the most harrowing tales of your childhood through college years…and some you haven’t heard yet! I wish I could give 4.5 stars overall but, as there are a few things I’d love to see improve, I’ll say 4, overall. The narration was spooky, not cheesy, and an overall hit. I think it would be even better if it was told softly and slowly, to draw in listeners and draw out the suspense. Highly recommend for families, daring kids Grades 3-8, and those of us who will never stop loving scary stories.

Really fun with great narration!
This audiobook is so much enjoyment for the kids. The stories are quite scary in a fun way and very appropriate for younger children. Some of my favourites are the story of bear and squirrel and maniac or mouse. The narrator does a brilliant job of doing the characters voices and bringing them to life. The stories are mostly no more than 3 minutes long so they do not require too much attention at once which is great if your kids are easily distracted.

Scary stories for kids!
This is a great gift for kids - as confirmed by my 9-year old nephew, who really enjoyed listening to this book :)
These stories are unique and very well written. A huge shout-out to the narrator, who did a great job!

Lots of fun stuff
probably too scary for really small children with stories including knives, shotguns and death but overall this was great. Some are like long jokes and some are short scary stories around 2-3 minutes long. I enjoyed this though, I hope to remember some of these stories so I can tell them myself around the fire.

So Good!
I am generally skeptical of a book that claims to scare me in the title. Few have succeeded and this one makes the list. The writing style serves exactly that purpose and the narrator nails it. Here, you’ll find 17 professionally written children’s spooky stories that will raise the hairs on your neck as well. They are easy to follow, with exciting scenes and unique characters. Highly recommended!

Good collection
I came across this audiobook “17 Campfire Stories for Families and Kids: A Scary and Fun Story and Tales Collection to Tell Around the Campfire“, which is great because now I’ve got a title I could use whenever we go camping. With this audiobook I’ve got a good amount of stories to keep us entertained around the campfire. I thought story 8 had a premise that interested me in particular.
