Story
An early architect of punk rock's sound, style, and fury, whose lip-curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into pop's mainstream as one of MTV's first megastars, Billy Idol remains, to this day, a true rock 'n' roll icon. Now, in his long-awaited autobiography, Dancing with Myself, Idol delivers an electric, searingly honest account of his journey to fame - from his early days as front man of the pioneering UK punk band Generation X to the decadent life atop the dance-rock kingdom he ruled.

Story
People ask me how come I'm still alive, and I don't know what to say. When I was growing up, if you'd have put me up against a wall with the other kids from my street and asked me which one of us was gonna make it to the age of 60, with five kids and four grandkids and houses in Buckinghamshire and California, I wouldn't have put money on me, no f--king way. But here I am: ready to tell my story, in my own words, for the first time. A lot of it ain't gonna be pretty. I've done some bad things in my time. But I ain't the devil.

In 1984, at the age of 20, Duff McKagan left his native Seattle - partly to pursue music, but mainly to get away from a host of heroin overdoses then-decimating his closest group of friends in the local punk scene. In LA only a few weeks and still living in his car, he answered a want ad for a bass player placed by someone who identified himself only as "Slash." Soon after, the most dangerous band in the world was born. Guns N' Roses went on to sell more than 100 million albums worldwide.

The son of a classical pianist straight out of the Bronx of old Archie comics, Steven Tyler was born to be a rock star. Weaned on Cole Porter, Nat King Cole, Mick and his beloved Janis Joplin, Tyler began tearing up the streets and the stage as a teenager before finally meeting his "mutant twin" and legendary partner, Joe Perry. In this addictively listenable memoir, Tyler unabashedly recounts the meteoric rise, fall, and rise of Aerosmith over the last three decades and riffs on the music that gives it all meaning.

Much has been written about him, but until now we've only had his songs as clues to his experience from the inside. James Hetfield, with whom many years ago Mustaine founded a band known as Metallica, once observed, with some incredulity, that Mustaine must have been born with a horseshoe up his ass. That's how lucky he's been, how fortunate he is to be pulling breath after so many close calls. And Hetfield is right. Mustaine has been lucky. He has been blessed. But here's the thing about having a horseshoe lodged in your rectum: It also hurts like hell. And you never forget it's there.

Publisher's Summary
18 and Life on Skid Row tells the story of a boy who spent his childhood moving from Freeport, Bahamas, to California and finally to Canada and who, at the age of eight, discovered the gift that would change his life.
Throughout his career Sebastian Bach has sold over 20 million records both as the lead singer of Skid Row and as a solo artist. He is particularly known for the hit singles "I Remember You", "Youth Gone Wild", and "18 & Life" and the albums Skid Row and Slave to the Grind, which became the first ever hard rock album to debut at number one on the Billboard Top 200 and landed him on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Bach then went on to become the first rock star to grace the Broadway stage, with starring roles in Jekyll & Hyde, Jesus Christ Superstar, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He also appeared for seven seasons on the hit television show Gilmore Girls.
In his memoir Bach recounts lurid tales of excess and debauchery as he toured the world with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Soundgarden, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails, and Guns N' Roses. 18 and Life on Skid Row is the story of hitting it big at a young age and of a band that broke up in its prime. It is the story of a man who achieved his wildest dreams, only to lose his family and then his home. It is a story of perseverance; of wine, women, and song; and of a man who has made his life on the road and always will. 18 and Life on Skid Row is not your ordinary rock memoir, because Sebastian Bach is not your ordinary rock star.

this book immediately grabs your attention , the way Sebastian narrates the book kept a smile on my face the entirety of the listen as he seems so happy recounting His Glory Days and even the days he enjoys now. there are many great stories here, some that will make you laugh out loud and some that will make you misty-eyed. Amazing Stories include encounters with Metallica, Pantera, Guns N Roses, Motley Crue and many others. he has indeed had an amazing career. I highly recommend this book I wish I could forget it so I can read it again.

Interesting details missing
Unfortunately, anything you really wanted to know was left out of the book. No details about why he doesn’t own a piece of the name of Skid Row, how much money he made and lost over the years, what’s kept the band from getting back together, what lead to his divorce and why his son’s don’t talk to him, his struggles with alcoholism, etc - you get the idea. Definitely a big fan, but was disappointed that endless key details were left out of the book.

Made My Ride To Work Rock!!!
I have a pretty long commute to and from work, and I couldn't wait to get in the car and listen to more of this book! Sebastian Bach is a talented rock star who has lived a life that has been anything but ordinary compared to the lives of us average peeps...but he is extremely down-to-earth, relatable, and funny. When he laughs during his narration, YOU laugh right along with him. He is a fantastic narrator, and I enjoyed listening to him tell all his stories of life, the music business, and crazy behind-the-scenes moments that make rock star bios so awesome. I have listened to quite a few autobiographies lately (actors, comedians, musicians) and Sebastian's is definitely one of my favorites. Sebastian's love of music is clear in this book, and if you are a big music fan like I am, you will truly enjoy his story!

Loved How Sebastian Told His Story
What did you love best about 18 and Life on Skid Row?
How Sebastian tells his story. I've listened to a lot of bios and this one is one of a kind. You hear everything when he is telling you his story. He laughs, makes comments and sound effects.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course Sebastian
Which scene was your favorite?
The start and middle. I grew up listening to Skid Row and all of the bands that he was talking about. He tells the stories, the real stories.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I just wanted everyone else to hear him. Hear how he tells his story. I'm so happy I didn't read it and I listened to it.
Any additional comments?
This is a truly one of a kind book. I would recommend it to everyone. It's hard to describe the stories and storytelling but if you listen to this book you won't regret it!

I was 18 again
I got bewitched by Sebastian’s singing when I was 18 years old and Skid Row first album was released. And I would lie if I say that it wasn’t for his looks too. Come on! He was GORGEOUS! I still love rock music and metal music, but I’m not 18 anymore. Reading biographies of a rockstars takes me back to the beautiful times when we were young and thought that world belongs to us, and being a rockstar is amazing and easy life. Now I know it’s not easy and rockstars have a demons for their shadows. I’m grateful for the music and for being my companions throughout my youth. And I want to thank you Sebastian Bach for sharing your stories with us. No matter what happened, no matter what media showed us about you, you were an inspiration. Because of you, my son’s name is Sebastian (and yes, my husband know that) Reading/listening in this case, to this book took me back again. Thank you for the soundtrack to my life. :)

Great performance
Overall this a great audio book for anyone who witnessed these times and loves the music. It's a great performance by Mr Bach (nobody else could do this justice) but there are a few contradictions throughout that give the indication that perhaps not everything here is as it happened. Sometimes the tales we all want to hear are glossed over and at other times tales not that interesting are given great detail. But, still well worth a listen and interesting in many parts.

Frustrating
I’m giving this book 2 stars, but that’s being generous.
Sebastian Bach is annoying as a narrator- alternating between hyper and smugly irritating. The ego he’s infamous for shines through, unfortunately.
Turning to the story, it’s telling that this is an autobiography. Had a third party written it, they may have focussed on the aspects of the story fans actually want to know about. The real story why he left Skid Row from his POV- which I think is what most readers will want to hear- is skipped over in a couple of minutes (blink and you miss it), but then his (according to him, amazing) performances in a Broadway musical most of us have never heard of are the subject of what feels like hours.
I gave up with 3 hours to go- I couldn’t listen to any more.

Life Changing. Mesmerising!
From chaotic to tear jerking, the informality of Baz in my ears for 12 hours was comforting yet hilarious!
A 10/10 book for the contents and the performance!

Good mood comin’ right up!
Really glad I listened to this! I love the fact Baz reads this himself as it totally gets across his enthusiasm, confidence and positivity. I’m not sure the book would’ve made it so well with a different narrator.
I will say tho that this is a VERY toned down version of events! I was a fan in the 80’s - a 15 year old wild child who was privy first hand to some of Baz’s antics. Some of the wildest party guys I knew would be scared when he was coming to London!
It’s refreshing to hear he never injected drugs or did anything other than coke - after reading The Heroin Diaries, Baz’s life feels so happy and blessed in comparison, and he really knows how to live it.
A very positive book guaranteed to get you in a good mood!

Metal God!
I bought a hard copy of this book as well as the audiobook. Some great photos in it. If you are a Sebastian Bach/Skid Row fan this is a must! It’s great to hear the hyperactivity of Sebastian especially when he adds a Bonus Bonus BONUS! 😂 Listen to it, you wont be disappointed.🤘🏻

It was a different time!
So so good. Sebastian has a voice I would listen to if he was reading shampoo ingredients. Like most 40+ people, I remember how flippin spoilt we were with music in our early years, and this will have you right back in memory lane.

One of the better rockstar autobiographies
Pretty much what you'd expect from Sebastian Bach: rock anecdotes, life story, trials, trauma, hope, personal growth. Overall entertaining.

this was a struggle to listen to
Seb does not have a voice for audiobooks 'maaaaan'.
Talking about how the fans are number 1 and it's all for them and seemingly in the same breath saying 'the guy wasn't rocking out hard enough so I jumped into the audience and beat his ass and he had the nerve to threaten to sue me....what the f#$@'.....great grip on reality.
the book has its moments - Seb has lead a gifted life and his singing voice is incredible.

cool book
liked the style but felt sad. he and the band had the world at their feet. wish he'd realised that instead of drinking it away. I miss Skid Row.
