Simply Fantastic

I was curious when I came across this title, 190 Weightloss hacks and wondered if there was anything new to learn. You see, I am a doctor, and I struggle with my weight. I have promoted Weightloss programs, taken a journey myself, lost even 40 lbs in a rapid Weightloss program… but gained it back.
I wish I had this massive wealth of knowledge I gained from this book.. not medical school, but this 2 part book. It takes you down so many paths. Mindset and little practical things that could become habit that leads to big gains.
I absolutely enjoyed this book and highly recommend it, especially before you start any program. Whatever your program, it is likely covered in this book.

An amazing guide to weight loss

The author of this book is very creative. The way this book is laid out, it is perfect for anyone who wants to do without the fluff and get right to the answers. You can learn about all aspects of weight loss quickly. The author has structured this book in 190 separate sections, each addressing one weight loss-related issue or hack. We are not talking about some fluffy hacks. These are important topics like Paleo diet, Carbs and insulin (how does it work), exercise (what if you hate exercise :)), etc. I cannot say enough about the range of topics included in this book. If you want to lose weight and you feel stuck, this is the guide book you need.

Informative!

A great audiobook on giving advice on losing weight. Theres 190 tips and I really found a handful that I will be implementing in my own weight loss journey. I found the scientific evidence behind each tip very informative and it definitely gave me a new perspective.

A must listen

Excellent advice for my personal weight goals!

I appreciate how each type of diet is analyzed in this book, along with the evidence behind each one. It helps for those of us who have been struggling with weight for most of our lives.

Well researched and helpful

There is a LOT of information in this book and it is all backed by scientific studies. I thought the section on artificial sweeteners was especially interesting. They are supposed to be healthier for you, but it turns out that they actually aren’t. I love Jane’s scientific approach to a field (weight loss) that is filled with lots of guesses and wrong information.

So many helpful tips!

I love that there is a tip for everyone! The format is super easy to digest. It’s so convenient that you can easily go back to specific hacks, that you would like to re-listen to. There is so much great research backing these tips as well. I found it super helpful and very interesting!

I LOVE the practicality of this book!

My personal favorites are #19: SLEEP (yes, with a spritz of Essential oil on my pillow,)
#40: SELF-RESPECT, #188: THE STORY YOU TELL YOURSELF, and #181: WHAT CAN YOU CONTROL? - These keep my mental game in check.
Now I am willing to begin implementing Hack #8 using the VARIETY EFFECT, and begin to eat a few more salads with Nuts, thanks to Hack #173!!

From being a very skinny child, I've somehow managed to spend most of my adult life very overweight and although I've lost large amounts of weight on a couple of occasions and started to feel good about myself, once the diet has stopped, I've gone back to bad habits and regained the weight and getting the body of my youth just seems an insurmountable task.
Jane Thurnell-Read's book is extremely well-researched and the ideas and tips presented make me feel that I can adopt a set of habits that will stand me in good stead and help me lose the weight once and for all.
This audiobook offers a truly comprehensive and helpful guide into understanding how bodies, minds and diets work and it is so easy to revisit the chapters/sections of the book that I find most useful.
The accompanying PDF is also a fabulous resource and a lovely bonus with my purchase.
I also love the warm, encouraging and engaging tone of Deborah Balm's narration.
Thank you Jane for giving me realistic long-term strategies that have already started my quest in finally winning the battle of the bulge!

Heartily recommended

The narration and recording are very professional. Deborah’s voice is clear, relaxing and easy to listen to.
I heartily recommend this book for anyone with an unhealthy relationship with food, or anyone wanting to lose a lot or just a little weight, or to keep weight off. It's easy to select simple hacks that you can put into action, not only to lose weight but to improve your overall health and vitality.

A unique and great book

I've never come a cross a book that covers such a vast amount of different diet hacks (ideas/advice), let alone one that continually cites the references for the evidence of what is said in most of the hacks.

One of the things I really like about this book is that when there isn't a clear right or wrong answer for some of the hacks, the author discusses potential answers in an objective way that makes you re-think your own opinion.

The book covers loads of different subjects and although I've done a lot of research into diets and food nutrition before, there was still a lot of information that I'd either not come across before or that had been updated with more recent information/studies.

The only downside with this book is that the higher level/more advanced hacks are sporadic throughout the book; I think it would’ve been better if the more advanced/less known hacks were towards the end of the book so that those who were better versed in nutrition could listen to a lump/section of the book knowing that the more basic hacks were at the beginning/elsewhere in the book (this doesn't take away stars from my review though as it was still a great book).

I think my favourite hack was number 49, which discussed the age old thing of people procrastinating by saying they'll wait until new year or a couple of weeks to start at the beginning of a month, which seems ludicrous, but a lot of people still do it.

Full of wonderful evidence based suggestions.

Full of wonderful evidence based suggestions to help you on your weightloss journey. I love the ability to look through the index and choose a few simply ideas at a time to implement into your daily life rather than trying to do all the things and end up getting overwhelmed and giving up.

Being able to take baby steps while building a new healthy lifestyle really appeals and this book is perfect to help you achieve the necessary changes one hack at a time.

Great information in bite-sized pieces

This book is easy to listen to and very informative. There’s lots of evidence-based practical advice and tips. I love that I can also have a transcript of it. I find it helpful for clients who come to me with weight loss as one of their issues I thoroughly recommend it.

I really like the approach this book has taken!

So, in many books I have read, they have one or two great points to make, but surround it with filler material. Or when you search for a recipe on line there are paragraphs and paragraphs of fluff before you get to the simple ingredients list and method. Not this book. This book provides a list of brilliant hacks, methods habits etc that can be easily implemented. Each one is delivered in less than 2 minutes, scientifically referenced and just delivered without the fluff. My advice is listen to it, implement a few you connect with. Once they are second nature, listen again and implement one or two more, before you know it, you have transformed how you go about eating on a daily basis, which adds up to thanks to the compound affect, to how you feel, look and live!

Hacks to help knock the snacking habit on the head

To snack or not to snack? This is one of the many questions answered in 190 Weight Loss Hacks by Jane Thurnell-Read. I only wish I'd listened to the audio book before I'd eaten a flapjack, a bacon and egg sandwich and a cookie! I should have eaten less and simply imagined the enjoyment of eating my favourite foods. Just thinking about the experience of eating chocolate, for example, can mentally satisfy a craving and help you move on without too much snacking.

Other tips the book provides that will definitely stay with me are:

More chewing – a good way to burn calories. In particular, chew gum while grocery shopping and you'll put less fattening treats in your trolley!
Firming muscles and burning fat faster. An easy habit to form I hope.
Relax, de-stress and get better sleep using essential oils.
Think seriously about detailed meal planning and grocery lists
Write myself a letter to remind myself what I want to achieve and how much I want to weigh.
To sum up, what you eat matters, not how much and this book gives readers the information and knowledge needed to take control of their diets, weight loss and general physical and mental health.

It's the kind of book I would want to keep handy to remind me of what I can do to help myself when the will power inevitably starts to wane.

Tweak your life and health by introducing some weight loss hacks

I find it hard to concentrate to read, so love that this is on audible, but also love the fact that you get a pdf of the book too, as lot of information and ideas of things to try. Love that for the most part it’s science based and can click on the links to take you straight to the studies. I’m more inclined to trying an idea if it’s got some research behind it. Don’t feel you have to do them all but pick the ones you feel might help you and build gradually on that. It’s all about good overall habits, so that we are doing things in the end without thinking too much over time.

A scientific framework to manage your weight
