Story
Taoism is a major world religion that started long ago in China. And many believe that it began in the 6th century B.C. with the philosopher Lao Tzu. Understanding the way of the Tao (also pronounced "Dao") is really a matter of journeying through the core of oneself as an inner perception of beingness. This may seem tricky at first, but with proper guidance, that journey of self-revelation will be the most effortless achievement in your life. That is precisely what this audiobook is offering you.

Story
Alan W. Watts' "message for an age of anxiety" is as powerful today as it was when this modern classic was first published. We spend too much time trying to anticipate and plan for the future, too much time lamenting the past. We often miss the pleasures of the moment in our anxious efforts to ensure the next moment is as enjoyable. Drawing from Eastern philosophy and religion, Watts argues that it is only by acknowledging what we do not and cannot know that we can find something truly worth knowing.

The most translated book in the world after the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, or “Book of the Tao,” is a guide to cultivating a life of peace, serenity, and compassion. Through aphorisms and parable, it leads readers toward the Tao, or the “Way”: harmony with the life force of the universe. Traditionally attributed to Lao-tzu, a Chinese philosopher thought to have been a contemporary of Confucius, it is the essential text of Taoism, one of the three major religions of ancient China.

Deep down, most people think that happiness comes from having or doing something. Here, in Alan Watts’s groundbreaking third book (originally published in 1940), he offers a more challenging thesis: authentic happiness comes from embracing life as a whole in all its contradictions and paradoxes, an attitude that Watts calls the “way of acceptance.” Drawing on Eastern philosophy, Western mysticism, and analytic psychology, Watts demonstrates that happiness comes from accepting both the outer world around us and the inner world inside us,

Extended Definition
If a dictionary existed that gives extended longer definitions, just a bit longer than ordinary dictionaries, these two books would fit the criteria. If you want to learn about these two subject matters in detail then these are not your books . Furthermore I was completely caught of guard and annoyed when not once, but twice the author breaks into the narration completely pausing to literally beg and instruct the customer how to leave a book review for these titles . The last chapter is named
" Conclusion " When in fact there is zero conclusion, rather instead a small brief book about leader management in business, which has absolutely nothing to do with the two titles . Don't waste your money .

Inspirational content, awful pronunciation.
The narrator clearly made no effort whatsoever to look up the correct pronunciation of foreign words or names. There were also a couple of content errors (mixing up Marcus Aurelius and Seneca at one point and a couple of editing errors where phrases were repeated.) There were also multiple pleas for reviews, one of which asked the listener to leave a review after only a couple of chapters. This detracted from the listening experience and makes many reviews suspect. Asking for reviews is reasonable and appropriate, but not before the reader has actually finished the book.
That said, the content was insightful and inspiring, and it was interesting to see these philosophies in contrast. This is a decent introduction to the topics and has actionable exercises. If bad pronunciation doesn't set your teeth on edge, it's worth a listen.

Relatable, reflective and rejuvenating
Just started listening and I am gripped. I can't believe how Stoicism is so relevant to modern day issues of facing challenges, teaching mindfulness and understanding the importance of self awareness. Written by powerful men at a time of extreme governing, male dominance, violence, corruption and ruling and yet they share and teach words of compassion, journaling, self reflecting, empathy, meditation and kindness and I haven't even finished chapter 3. It's really an all inspiring piece and narrated beautifully.
