JOSHUA SAXON preforms BRIAN LUMLEY'S work ((FLAWLESSLY))
He range is vast...and hypnotic.
Mr. Saxon truly is the VOICE of Lumley.

A collection of “vampire” stories that bring much more to the table

So as a teen I loved Brian Lumleys necroscope series...so when I saw coven of vampires a collection of short vampire stories I was thrilled about it and thought that I’d be taking a spin threw that universe I grew to live as a teen...boy was I wrong lol! However that is a GOOD thing. these were not the tales of the vampires from the necroscope universe. These were tales from the dark recesses of Lumleys mind. They are tales that are anything but traditional which is what I love about Lumleys stories in general. The influence of Lovecraft is strong in many of these tales and you will find things in here that will stir the hairs up on the back of your neck and cause you to think twice about getting in the water. The tales in here will deliver on the concept of vampire in the literal and the concept of the vampire as only Lumley could construe it. Sit back listen and enjoy the tingle in your spine. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator or publisher

Not Necroscope / Harry Keogh Stories

These are not your Lumley Necroscope vampire stories. That being said, these are a widely varied collection of vampire stories, all well done and entertaining. Dive in, they don't suck!
Joshua Saxon does an excellent job of narration.

The Undead

from one of my favorite authors of all times comes a wonderful collection of stories with a recurring theme.

Joshua's addiction and vocal exercises are wonderful to listen to for hours on end.

the story is presented here are worth reading or listening to over and over and over as Joshua's vocal abilities fit seamlessly into the realm of Master Lumley's works

A Coven of Vampires

This is a wonderful collection of horror stories that all revolve around vampires and things that are vampire like. Each story is well written and includes strong characters and plots. I found myself quickly engrossed in each story right from the start of each one. If you enjoy tales on the creepy side with substance than this is a book for you. Narrator Joshua Saxon does a great job of giving these stories life. He keeps the narrative flowing at a good pace and each of the characters are given a voice that works for them. I am a fan of Brian Lumley and am now a fan of Joshua Saxon.

A Coven of Vampires

I love short stories. They are a great break from reading long and drawn out tales, though I love novels as well. This was a really good collection of vampire-related short stories, but they are not all the same type of vampire and not the kind that "vant to suck your blood!" These were some creepy creatures, indeed. The tales are varied. I loved most, some were not as much to my liking. My favorite stories were more on the outside-of-the-box types of vampire tales. The Thief Immortal, The Thing From the Blasted Heath, Happopian, and Uzzi were my favorites. Uzzi reminded me of a story I read as a kid and although I can not name that story, it took me back to my childhood where I would read horror books late into the night. There is something here for everyone I think. Definitely recommend this collection.

Terrifyingly good!

This was such a different book. It was made up of short stories. I was expecting Vampires - as in the title of the book. However these were dark and twisted tales!!! Some were VERY dark. I wouldn't say they were vampires - nothing like the bog standard vampire!!!!! I listen to books at night, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND LISTENING TO THIS BOOK AT NIGHT!! It is a mixture of horror, fantasy and intrigue. It was very well written. Nothing at all like I was expecting and nothing at all like any other book I have ever read! The narration on this book was superb. Joshua Saxon adapted his voice to the point I actually thought there were two or three narrators!! A terrifyingly good book!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I have provided this voluntary review.

One of Lumley's Best Short Story Collections

Wow! I'm a big fan of Brian Lumley, so I know how good he can be. I've read nearly all of his novels and short story collections and this definitely has to be up there with the best of his work. There are a wide range of stories featuring many different types of vampires, not just the classic interpretation we've all seen many times before.
I enjoyed every tale, with Uzzi and Kiss of the Lamia (featuring Lumley's epic barbarian character Tarra Khash) being my favourites.
Joshua Saxon's narration is faultless throughout. It's impressive how he manages to alter his tone to fit the requirements of the varied stories. Some are dark and menacing, while others are less formal with a lighter feel. The use of vocal effects for two evil characters in two of the tales is also extremely effective.
This is a great place to start for someone who wants to check out Lumley for the first time. If I could give it six stars I would.

Vampire Anthology

Vampires stories, but Brian Lumley style so you know they won't sparkle! His style is more Cthulu than the usual typical vampire trope, so read on for a selection of dark and twisted tales!

More Lumley on Audible please

This is another excellent Lumley short collection, I think this is the third, but it's a good one and Josua Saxon is a great narrator for this collection, almost perfect throughout.

I'd recommend this to all Lumley fans, although be aware that does not mean ''Necroscope'' fans, I mean real Lumley fans.

I particularly enjoyed ''The Strange Years''' as it reflects perfectly the way I often feel how Gaia might respond to the human blight. "The Kiss of the Lamia", "The Thief Immortal", "Uzzi, Haggopian" and "The Picknickers" were also marvellous. There were only two that I did not care for at all and one of them, sadly, was the very first "What Dark God?", I did not feel that it was the best start to the book, but I did feel that "The House of the Temple" was a good ending. Which will be your favourites?

This is a good mix of stories, none of which are about Vampires as you might expect them, so be warned there, this is more Cthulhu Mythos than Vampire Lestat (and there are very definitely no sparkly vampires here).

I was lucky enough to receive my copy free of charge and am delighted to leave this unbiased and honest review (I admit though, to having been a Brian Lumley fan for decades).
