Publisher's Summary
A man in prison for murder. One woman wants him freed. One woman wants him dead.
Mick McFarland is stunned when he's arrested for murdering business tycoon Edwin Hanson, brother to David Hanson - one of Mick's former clients. Mick is even more shocked when he's confronted with the incriminating evidence: surveillance footage of him stalking the victim and pulling the trigger.
As Mick's legal team fights against windmills trying to beat the prosecution in court, his wife, Piper, journeys across the country, trying to win her husband's freedom by going after the man she is convinced is out to destroy Mick and David both. What she doesn't anticipate is that David's wife, Marcie, is on a similar mission to shelter her own husband. And the two women may not be on the same side.
Piper has it all right...and all wrong. And her time is running out. Will she be able to save her husband from conviction and clear his name?

Good techno-legal thriller!
CRIMINAL JUSTICE is Book 4 in the Philadelphia Legal series by William L. Myers Jr. I enjoyed the first two legal thrillers in the series but did not like A Killer's Alibi, Book 3, at all. The strongest aspects of Criminal Justice are the marvelous narration by Will Damron and the techno ending to the murder trial. Now that the author has found Will Damron to narrate his novel he needs to stick with him.
Criminal Justice is a complex novel with lots of characters requiring the close attention of the listener I had to re-listen to a few chapters. Also, this novel can be listened to as a standalone, but listening to the prior novels in the series first is helpful.
This series is free to listen with Kindle Unlimited and costs much less than an Audible credit if purchased at Amazon with the Kindle and Audible versions without Kindle Unlimited.

‘A Criminal Justice’ a..bit TOO much
I love author William L Myers Jr. he’s a great lawyer & writer. Also right from the start I was THRILLED to listen to narrator Will Damron! He’s my 3rd best narrator I adore! EVERYTHING narrated by Will is perfect, and I’ve listened to so many books by him and can never put his reading down for a minute!
BUT onto the book ‘A Criminal Justice’..did we have to have about two recounts of other books into one?! I’ve listened & read all this series and I seriously had to go back and forth into my past to remember the previous novels to remember who was who?
This is NOT a stand alone novel and I don’t NOT recommend it..but I seriously couldn’t keep up with SO MANY CHARACTERS from the past & present! My mind was “who was that? ‘ “which novel was she in?”
It’s a bit complicated and for me to try and tell you the basis of it, may be better to read the book details! Yes it’s about Mic who gets screwed by people who have hated him when he was a prosecutor, since he’s now a defense attorney, but it’s a..bit far fetched at pretty at the end..and to tell you the truth..I have no clue, if there’ll even be a Book 4, cuz the ending was just..odd!
I still couldn’t put it down because it was like one of those books, that’s not quite making sense, but I kinda knew who the responsible party was less than half way into it. Last word: It would have been great with a stand alone new one in the series without bringing in ALL these people I already forgot..

Very complicated story line within a story line!
It was interesting but hard to follow! Too much harking back to an event that the reader wasn’t privy to the whole situation! Then because it was so complicated the reader had to be told what really happened right at the end!

As a casualty of a COVID-19 furlough, I had to sit in my bank line for almost 2 hours. Best 2 hours I’ve ever spent. I was thoroughly entertained in my wait by “A Criminal Justice,” so much so that I didn’t notice the time. When I got home, I immediately called and recommended the book to one of my Audible friends. Another Winner!
Mr. Myers continues weave enjoyable yay be about a Philadelphia Legal scene. A Criminal Justice continues the interwoven stories involving Mick McFarland and his family/law firm, the bitter Hanson family, the Nunzio crime family, and assorted cops and lawyers who despise Mick. If this is your first foray into the series, I suggest going back to A Criminal Defense (Book 1) and then to A Killer’s Alibi for context and comprehension as to where the situations begin.
This series does not include the ultimately pure hero. Each character seems to balance on the precipice of morality or criminality and this is an aspect that makes stories fun. Will Damron narrates the well-written storyline such that the events never lag. I recommend this book highly.

Brilliant Legal Thriller.
Philadelphia Legal Series sees attorney Mick McFarland is accused and arrested for murder, a seemingly open and shut case that will likely end with capital punishment. With his fourth book about defense attorney Mick McFarland, Myers slowly introduced us in depth to the characters surrounding Mick along with their back stories. Masterful storytelling and a crime straight out of a XF movie, I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Another Great Book
A great book. I completely recommend it..I love the fact that Myers went back to the first novel and continued the story...all the same characters...I love Tredesco...ha...anyway...Bill Myers is just a special author in my opinion. The only reason I even stumbled upon him with the first novel, A Criminal Defense, was just one word...Philadelphia. I am from Philly so I listened to the preview and bought it immediately...WOW am I glad I did...I was ecstatic that I found a new Terrific author. Bill Myers should be on everyone's list of authors to grab their new releases immediately when they are ready...I eagerly await the new books every year. My only gripe if its even a true gripe, is that i would like to hear/listen to a better narrator. Berkrot from the first novel I thought was fine and I could have listened to him do all the books but the powers that be changed him to Adam Verner...I really did not like him at all..and with Will Damron..eh..nothing special..his performance is just okay. not even typical..a little weak. I'd love to suggest to either go back to Berkrot or perhaps someone who does Legal books...like Peter Giles who did all of the Mickey Haller characters by Michael Connelly. He is TERRIFIC. anyway...Just my thoughts.

Lots Potential But Really Fell Flat
Wow! when I started this book I thought I love it. Mick, a criminal defense attorney, is arrested for murdering Edwin Hanson, the chairman and CEO of Hanson World Industries. Edwin is the brother of one of Mick's former clients. The arrest is a surprise but the real shock comes when Mick learns there is surveillance footage of him actually shooting Edwin. Members of Mick's firm fan out, investigating (above board and otherwise) looking for anything that can prove he didn't do it.
Then then plot gets all twisty, everyone has a motive and a plan for accomplishing something, though it's not immediately clear what everyone wants or why. The characters are all tied together in complicated, longstanding ways.
In the end much too complicated and for me to try and tell you the basis of it, may be better to read the book details! Yes it’s about Mick who gets screwed by people who have hated him when he was a prosecutor, since he’s now a defense attorney, but it’s gets very far fetched pretty much at the end..and to tell you the truth the ending was silly. There are lots of guilty people but no one is brought to justice - I have no clue,
Will Damron was amazing with the delivery of the story.

Compelling at First, But Preposterous Plot
A frame to end all frames. The motivations of twisted characters were simplistic and overblown. The technology and the collaboration of multiple characters in multiple elaborate plot elements were ridiculous. International mob bosses, prison shenanigans, a tech billionaire with a secret past, a crooked doctor, a bent DA, a different billionaire businessman, his evil wife plus other characters were involved together and sometimes conspiring in various aspects. Minions easily bought to commit murder. Sudden flips in allegiance by big characters. Super advanced hacking. Please. Fiction may involve the willing suspension of disbelief but this was nutty. The beginning drew me in but the extended denouements were absurd. The narrator was better than the earlier ones for this author. Too bad.

I’m struggling..
I enjoyed the previous book in this series so felt confident about the next in the series. But, and it’s a big but- I’m struggling to finish this one. The plot seems too far fetched, there is a proliferation of characters and I’m finding it hard to keep up. Also not enjoying the narrator. I’m ☹️ sorry, I think I will be returning it.
