Compelling series - great final entry

I enjoyed all 4 books in this series (sometimes called Mortal Engines; sometimes called Hungry City Chronicles) equally. Barnaby Edwards's performance is nuanced and skilled; you can tell right away who's talking and can get to know the characters better based on how he brings them to life. I'm very excited for the movie of book 1 (Mortal Engines), which comes out later this year. Great sci-fi series, highly recommended.

Best ending ever.

By the time you’ve gotten to this fourth book you are already committed to the story so I will spare everyone commentary there. What I will say is that it is exceedingly rare for Sci-fi/fantasy stories to tie up all loose ends and craft such a neat and clean “full circle” which brings the reader back to the beginning and with such a sense of satisfaction.

I liked this series before but now I love it

I got into the series because of the trailers for the movie. I liked the first book more than the movie. I love this series now if only because of the conclusion this book gave it. While the premise is fairly outlandish the characters bring it to life. I would whole heatedly recommend this to almost anyone.

Tidy Ending Great Story

Listened to the whole series and as absurd as the premise sounds its really well written and everything comes full circle, cant wait to see how the Prequel short story pans out.

A Fine End

This was a good end to a very inventive series. I appreciated the character realism and the descriptions of how things developed.

I Loved this Series!

The story, the performance! the whole Shazam bam! I loved every part of it! After seeing the movie (Mortal Engines) I became interested in this series and this is truly one of those times that I can say that the books are better than the movie! the movie was great, don't get me wrong, but it doesn't stay very true to the story in the books. If you are looking for an imaginative story if adventure, this is for you!

Very great series!

This is probably my favorite series I have read yet, though maybe that’s because I’m writing this right after having finished the last book, or maybe it’s because I haven’t read or listened to many books. I would recommend listening to or reading the first book Mortal Engines and if you don’t like it by Chapter 6 or 7 the series may not be for. You’ll never know unless you give it a go

Mortal Engines Series

I have just binge listened to this fantastic series of books. I read them years ago but to hear Philip Reeves world and characters brought to life by Barnaby Edwards made me re-read them. The stories throughout the Mortal Engine series really ignite the imagination, they are so solidly thought out. This is definitely one series I would be happy to listen to over and over.

A triumph

Reeve may have written these as kids books, but re-reading them again as an adult they lose none of their magic, and if anything they've become funnier and more powerful.

wow what an amazing finale

Philip reeve has got this stride in this the final book. The ending is magnificent as the beginning. Truly the cycle of life has been told here, I am sure there are references to modern society but who needs those...no need to over think things. brilliant for all ages.

Now that's a proper end to an avesome story.

Book 2 was a bit underwhelming, but all else was amazing. No stupid "and they lived long after" ending, and sad death of the main characters was interrupted with cheering moments etc.
Most importantly- no loose ends left untied at the end, none important enough for me to remember anyway.

Best book in the series

This was a fun and exciting story which really puts a nice capstone on the series as a whole. The narrator Barnaby Edwards has a great way of capturing the nature of the characters he portrays, and I think this story serves as a great way to end the narrative.

Penniroyal remains the best character.

Best book yet

By far his best book of the series and a simply perfect ending. First two books a little slow at first but this 4th book made the whole series worth it. Gripping action for most the book and so much character development, twists I didn’t see coming

What an adventure!

I’ve just finished this, the 4th and final book in Mortal Engines Quartet...and what a series!

The writing always kept me interested and never laboured too much despite the plots get more complex and intertwined as the books progressed. I really started to get to know and enjoy the characters, in particular the unusual dynamics of the main characters of Tom and Hester as well as my personal favourite, Professor Nimrod Pennyroyal, the likeable rogue and conman.

The narration by Barnaby Edwards is superb. His range of accents and voices really had me mentally picturing the characters who were very believable.

All in all, a fantastic read and I’m sad to have finished the series. I’ve still got the film to look forward to...let’s hope they stuck to the books and don’t ‘Hollywoodize’ it too much!

Childhood read rediscovered

Just finished trought the whole series, I remember reading the first book as a kid. I loved the setting and the characters. Now I got to appreciate the interactions among them with a different prospective. And i really loved the ending, which was perfect in the way the narrator portraits it!
