One grey dismal day, Janine Marsh was on a trip to northern France to pick up some cheap wine. She returned to England a few hours later having put in an offer on a rundown old barn in the rural Seven Valleys area of Pas de Calais. This was not something she'd expected or planned for. Janine eventually gave up her job in London to move with her husband to live the good life in France. Or so she hoped. While getting to grips with the locals and la vie Française, and renovating her dilapidated new house, a building lacking the comforts of mains drainage, heating, or proper rooms.

Charming! Exactly the kind of book I was looking for
My favorite book has a bit of history a bit of fiction people stories and is believable and well written. I love this book. I love the characters. I love architecture art and things of beauty. This book respects those things. A great read. I was stuck in terrible traffic for hours and I didn’t mind a bit!

so loved this audio book. I could picture the small Italian town and felt like all the characters were believable, likeable and interesting. the narrator did such a great job, switching to charming accents so effortlessly. I really didn't want it to end and would really love sequels, there's so much potential for more storylines following these wonderful characters . great job by the author and narrator, I look forward to listening to more books from both of them.

loved the approach. Hard to find anything these days that does not contain four lettered words and violence. Enjoyed the narrative. But the thing that truly astonished me was the narrator Jane. How on earth can she do Australian, English, Italian, American accents without error. It is almost impossible to get Australian accurately without being Australian. Bravo Jane!!

Dull narrating!
The storyline was pleasant enough but to many characters for the length of the book.
The narrator I found dull, with every character sounding the same apart from the 2 accents.
I may attempt one more from this author as I love everything Italian. But I think I’d be more likely to read the next one!
