Story
The infamous Dodd murders are hardly among Eastport's proudest legacies. So when bestselling true-crime author Carolyn Rathbone arrives to research the case for a new book, the locals in the seaside town let her know that she's about as welcome as a spoiled clam. But surely no one would harm a crime writer out of a sense of civic pride--or would they?

Publisher's Summary
Jake tries to distract herself from murder with the constant attempts to keep her 1823 Federal-style fixer-upper from tumbling down on her head. But when her best friend's infant daughter suddenly goes missing, Jake feels her dark past wrapping itself around her...and needless to say, it's nowhere near as charming as her rickety old house.

Missed the Mark
I have been an Audible listener for over 4 years, and this book ranks at the bottom of my selections from Audibile. I have read and listened to all of the "Jake" books and have pretty much liked them. This one, however, has a plot so far away from plausible that it is bordering on foolish. The Maine accents are horrendous (take that from a native Mainer who has lived Downeast for 20 ears), and anyone who lives near the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the cold waters off Eastport, will recognize that spending any amount of time in the frigid ocean waters is deadly. The 3 year old in this book must be bionic to survive her spill in the water and getting thrown against a wooden structure after she had been kidnapped and drugged with opium for a day. I only finished listening to the book because I didn't want to "waste" my Audible credit.

Just Couldn’t Do It
I tried my best to embrace this, but just couldn’t. Too dark, far fetched and otherwise un-cozy!
Narration was very good as always, but I fast forwarded through scene after scene. Odd writing too, switching strange between first person and second person. I’m not sure if I even want to try the next one. Maybe I am done with this series, it feels like it’s lost it’s way.

Skip it
Defiantly not one of her better books. It flips from first person to third person often . I prefer the books with the familiar Eastport characters, this one was defiantly lacking. V one thing tho, it does answer the questions surrounding Jakes moms death.

One of her best books yet!
What made the experience of listening to A Face at the Window the most enjoyable?
The plot was not the standard "who-dun it" there were new elements that I've not read in mystery books before.
What did you like best about this story?
The twists and turns that happened in the plot.
What does Lindsay Ellison bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I like that she is true to the Maine pronunciations of things.

Dark and cozy
I love Sarah Graves' Home Repair Mysteries series. Jake Tiptree is a realistic character who sometimes faces extraordinary circumstances. This book is full of dark suspense but manages to remain a cozy mystery. If you are a fan of the series you have to read this one.
