Publisher's Summary

Angie, 6, and sister Polly, 4, are utterly distraught when they arrive to stay with foster carer Cathy Glass. Their older half-sister Ashleigh has accused their father of rape, and the two young sisters have been removed from home to keep them safe.

Cathy tries to comfort the girls, but they are inconsolable. They just want their mummy and daddy, who they love dearly.

The girls appear to have been well looked after, but as they settle and start to talk of life at home, it becomes clear something is badly wrong. Then a chance remark sets in motion a chain of events that eventually changes everything.

something seems familiar

I swear I have heard this story before just this time it's during covid. I love Cathy Glass so I was sad that this didn't feel original. very repetitive. sorry

Lots of padding and Covid overload.

This isn’t the best of Cathy’s books and at times reads more like a detailed list of normal activities anyone would do in a day (“we put on our coats, left the house and got into the car etc”) The text was also weighed down with Covid detail, with Cathy seeming so anxious to reassure the reader that she was adhering to “current COVID Guidelines” at all times that it became distracting and annoying to listen to. We get it, we all lived it, but it felt like padding the text and offered nothing that moved the story along or told us anything of value about the children in Cathy’s care or their situation.

The story itself was interesting, though I felt the details were weakened and disrupted by all the padding, which is a shame.

Sad story

Not worth reading again. Read for book club. Sad story of foster care in UK during COVID. All because a teenager lied. Could have been a lot shorter if people interviewed the teen and boyfriend thoroughly. I understand you need to believe the victim but in this case she lied. Ugh.

Don’t get why people like this

I thought this book was pretty boring and way too verbose and overly detailed. I knew what the end would be early on.

Cathy Glass

Love this book. As a foster caregiver from the US I love reading Cathy’s books and oftentimes learn different ideas from her to try with my placements.

Another Amazing Story

I’ve listened to every Cathy Glass book and this one, like all the others did not disappoint. The narrator has such a lovely voice. How she can switch up voices for every character is nothing short of amazing. They make a great team! Please keep writing Cathy!

Not her best writing

Although the story itself was shocking I can't say it was her best writing.

Really boring and predictable

I understand these are supposed to memoirs but this just feels like a boring diary. The story was predictable from the start and didn’t have any of the gripping twists her earlier books did. I’ve been getting rather bored and also dubious of “Cathy Glass” for a couple of years now. This one is the worst yet. Honestly wouldn’t waste your credit on it, even if you’re a Cathy Glass fan. Read the earlier books instead.

Covid covid covid

It’s shame as the story is an easy read. But the references to covid, masks and so on really spoilt the reading of the book. Made me eye roll lots.

A bit disappointing

I usually love Cathy Glass’ books and have read them all. I found this one quite boring and predictable though. Maybe this was a story that didn’t need to be told? It felt like a long and detailed description of a series of boring and sad meetings interspersed with trips to activity centres.

Repetitive Narration

I have read all of the Cathy Glass books over the years and have enjoyed them. This book was quite hard to preserve with, but I kept with it as I had used a credit for it. I found her constant description of the COVID rules and the pandemic jarring. After all, we all went through it and it's very recent in everyone's memories. Save your credit and buy a different book to listen to!

What a emotional story

Another excellent book by Cathy Glass, it is getting more common for young teenager girls to use the sexual abuse card. I hope the family will recover from this eventually and become a strong unit again

Give this one a pass

Normally love these type of book/author. This one did not hit the mark. All the explaining of Covid and policies and procedures was beyond boring. And the story didn’t develop into anything worth listening too. Kinda just felt like you walked in a circle with no real outcome or explanations. I feel bad leaving bad review as I normally like this author but give this one a pass sorry!
