Publisher's Summary

From debut author Stacy Willingham comes a masterfully done, lyrical thriller, certain to be the launch of an amazing career. A Flicker in the Dark is eerily compelling to the very last word.

When Chloe Davis was 21, six teenage girls went missing in her small Louisiana town. By the end of the summer, her own father had confessed to the crimes and was put away for life, leaving Chloe and the rest of her family to grapple with the truth and try to move forward while dealing with the aftermath.

Now 20 years later, Chloe is a psychologist in Baton Rouge and getting ready for her wedding. While she finally has a fragile grasp on the happiness she’s worked so hard to achieve, she sometimes feels as out of control of her own life as the troubled teens who are her patients. So when a local teenage girl goes missing, and then another, that terrifying summer comes crashing back. Is she paranoid, seeing parallels from her past that aren't actually there, or for the second time in her life, is Chloe about to unmask a killer?

A Macmillan Audio production from Minotaur Books.

"Haunting, lyrical, and utterly compelling! These are just a few of the words of praise one could use to describe A Flicker in the Dark. Author Willingham takes us on an unstoppable journey through the psychology of evil, and of courage (in many senses), all told in a pitch-perfect literary style. Once you start reading, you will not put it down." (New York Times best-selling author Jeffery Deaver)

Enjoyable story and narrative

This was the most interesting book I have listened to in the past 6 months. I had to listen to it completely and usually I break them up to a few hours a day. Not with this one, in its entirety I enjoyed the story never finding a place to end. It was very believable and interesting.

for the psycho thriller obsessed!

You think you know! You think you’ve got the crime solved. It’s got depth and will keep you guessing! The narration didn’t bug me so that was a cherry on top! It’s soooo good! I loved it! Can’t wait for more! And hopefully the movie will live up!

Sooooo many suspects

Unfortunately, halfway through this book I just rolled my eyes and exclaimed ‘oh ffs - seriously?’ And it kept going.
Not sure there was a moment that I thought anything made sense.
I did enjoy the mention of fireflies.

Did not disappoint

I had been anxiously awaiting this audible release, preordered it and was so excited when it finally came in! I am terrible with crime/thriller books because I am always guessing ahead and then upset when I am right or when it’s a lame sidestep. This book I guessed right a few times but the twist the big twist!!! Oh my. It was everything. Written really well and a read that you just want to finish in a day. With 11 hours it took me 2 days but I just couldn’t stop listening. I would have probably preferred reading as the male voice was a bit annoying but that’s to be expected when it’s a female voice actor. Overall I would definitely recommend!!

Save your money, credit and time

There was a twist…ONE. Everything else was given to you a mile away. I did like the narrator.

enjoyed it from start to finish

You know it's going to be great when Karin Slaughter recommends it! One of the better thrillers I've read in the last 18 months ( and I listen to/read to A LOT!) :)

What a dark and stunning debut!

Chloe is a successful psychologist in Louisiana with a dark past, her father is a convicted serial killer. As her wedding approaches there is news of a local girl who went missing. She was later found dead. Then another. Chloe is haunted daily by her past and the incredible similarities these murders hold to those perpetrated by her father. Chloe struggles to figure out what is happening around her as she wrestled with her demons from the past. I did not see the ending coming. Beautifully written, incredibly dark, and very atmospheric, this book will leave you feeling Chloe’s every fear as she navigates past and present.

Very good

This book was really good. Great plot twist. Lady who reads it has the same "voice" for all the men so it can be slightly confusing. Highly recommend.

lots of potential, but..

I liked the plot although sometimes predictable the twists and turns were good. The narrator is excellent.

What made me give 3 stars is the unfortunate stupidity of the main character. with a phD and masters in psychology no less! time and time again she out herself in dangerous situations despite her "knowledge" of the risk.

I can appreciate a flawed character having problems with prescription pills but it just made me dislike her more instead of having empathy.
like hey maybe my friend or neighbor or relative is a serial killer qwhy don't I pop a Xanax and meet him for drinks? Absurd

Maybe her next book will have a smarter albeit flawed protagonist.

Story drag on

I didn't like how many long the Story became with the same unnecessary details. I didn't like the main character either
