Story
Something very strange is happening in LeHorn's Hollow. Eerie, piping music is heard late at night, and mysterious fires have been spotted deep in the woods. Women are vanishing without a trace overnight, leaving behind husbands and families. When up-and-coming novelist Adam Senft stumbles upon an unearthly scene, it plunges him and the entire town into an ancient nightmare. Folks say the woods in LeHorn's Hollow are haunted, but what waits there is far worse than any ghost.

Story
The Westgate Galleria Mall was once a sprawling, shining monument to American consumerism and suburban growth. Now, it is a crumbling reminder of how both have fallen - an architectural ghost, haunting the outskirts of society. That makes it the perfect filming location for a YouTube channel devoted to the exploration of abandoned places. But the mall isn't as empty as it seems, and the residents have sinister obscene plans for them. Now, with the daylight still hours away, both the hunters and the hunted will fight to stay alive...and desperately try to make it home.

Publisher's Summary
Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don't know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?

Great Creepy Story
The setup for this story was great. I really enjoyed being introduced to all the small town folks. Sadly, a lot of them don't make it past the middle of the book. The setting definitely helped make you feel isolated as the mysterious figures come to town. The final showdown didn't seem to me to have the same level of excitement as the buildup, but it was still a great paranormal/occult story. This is the first book in the Levi Stoltzfus collection I have listened to and while this is the third book, I didn't feel like I was missing anything as you are introduced to Levi as if you didn't know him.
I liked the characters, although I did have a little bit of a hard time keeping them all straight as we are introduced to a lot who then promptly die. Levi is a great main protagonist and I found him to be my favorite character of the bunch. The antagonists are by far my favorite part of the story. Shape shifting crows is truly something of nightmares as crows by themselves are creepy, invulnerable shape shifting ones have to occupy a ring of Dante's Inferno. They creeped me out right down to the clothes they wore once inhuman and the way the spoke. The dialogue from them is worth the story alone.
Chet Williamson did a great job with the narration. I really liked his character voices and the accent he used for Levi as well as the gravely voice for the crows. Williamson really put in a lot of energy to the narration and made for a great creepy listen.

Fun, gnarly horror action
This is a good one. It dives into gnarly horror action almost immediately, and never really slows down. It presents a really interesting and well explained mythos and magic system, the characters are engaging, the villains a truly scary, and the hero is believable. This is my first Keane book, and I realized halfway through that this book comes in the middle of a loosely connected series, but I don’t feel like I missed anything essential to understand what was going on. I definitely recommend this book, and look forward to diving further into this author’s works.
I should add that I originally thought this was going to be a book about a few billion crows descending on a town and killing everyone. I was excited for that, but really prefer how this one turned out!

"Tapping at your chamber door"
A gathering of cross is called a murder, which is exactly what the five black crows brought to the already dying West Virginian small town. 'Nothing ever happens in Brinkley Springs ' they'd told the Amish looking man who arrived to stay for one night at the B&B. He was, he thought, just passing through. Not this night.
This was not the book I had expected. Although written well enough; horror for this reader is not just the prolonged listing on imaginatively conceived and gruesome deaths, one of the more mundane being the strangulation of a man with his own intestines. And when the pace changes to a stand against the killers, there is far too much quoting of rituals. More distaste and tedium than horror, there was no element of suspense.
Narration was by Chet Williamson, who read well, adding separate voices for various characters. His speech was clear, well modulated but a little slow: speeding the playback to 1.2 corrected that. But one irritating aspect was his continued pronunciation of 'magus as 'maggus', rather than as the more usual 'maygus' - but perhaps that is just a national difference..
Apart from that, a good perfkrmance.
Overall, this was a disappointment and not a book I'd recommend even for an horror fan: unless their pleasure comes from a review of divers unpleasant means of murder. For me, there was too little sense of dread of expectation for the reader..And it is in that intangible unknown that the horror lies, not simple grisly deaths.

Another Great Horror From Keene
Brian Keene is one of the best horror writers working today. I've yet to be disappointed by one of his stories. A Gathering of Crows is my favourite book so far in the Levi Stoltzfus series. There a some great characters and some cool horror set pieces.
Chet Williamson is a fantastic narrator and he doesn't put a foot wrong with this novel. It was a pleasure to listen to.

KAZ 😃 Bedford 🇬🇧 Good 📖
I loved the book has great character's and really good story line so glad I gave the author a chance the only thing that I wasn't keen on was the amount of sex maybe I'm being a bit prudish but it's my opinion 😃 If you like horror then you should definitely try this book It's a definite 4 out of 5 ⭐ from me 👍
