Story
Still battling each other and the blue wall, NYPD detectives Chiara Corelli and P. J. Parker catch a new murder case. The victim, a gay man, is posed with a rosary in his hands, the smell of incense in the air, and Gregorian chants playing in the background. While Corelli and Parker search for leads, Kate Burke, the lesbian speaker of the city council, asks for an update on the investigation. Thinking Burke is playing politics, Corelli ignores the request. In the meantime, two more bodies are found, both laid out in the same way.

Story
The isolated, sleepy little village of Timber Falls—built on the bend of a swift mountain river—swells during the summer months as tourists flock to town to run the river, lured there by the Class IV and Class V rapids. A gruesome murder of a college student—a river rat—brings the FBI to town. Lynn Carter, a disgraced LAPD detective, was offered an out—a position on a team of unorthodox FBI agents. When her commander sent her to Timber Falls—a town by only the stretch of the imagination—she had no idea she would find her peace there. No idea she might find love.

Story
Dorothy Parker's quips and light verse have embedded themselves in the American literary landscape, but it was her prose that proved her star and demonstrated her talent as extending far beyond her time. In her fiction, she not only brought to life the urban milieu that was her bailiwick, but lay bare the uncertainties of ordinary people living ordinary lives, all told in her unflinching and deeply personal voice. In these selected stories, read for you by Elaine Stritch, we have the chance to draw upon her insight into the social and emotional realities of human nature.

Excellent!!!
I am a big fan of the Detective Chiara series so was really excited to see the first book in audio. I didn’t think I could love this story more but I seas wrong. The audiobook took it to a whole other level! I love crime/ mystery books where the main character is actually a great detective and uses her brains and experience to solve the crime and is not running around clueless. I can’t wait to listen to the other books in the series!!!

Great listen!
I loved this book. I want to give it more than 5 stars. The characters were believable, the mystery a true mystery. I had no idea 'whodunit' til the end. Abby Craden was FABULOUS, as usual. Unfortunately this is the only book from this author on audible, I hope there is more soon... in the meantime I'm going to read the old fashioned way and get all of her 📚.

I'm not sure
This is a crime and mystery novel. The only "lesbian" thing about it is (1) the heroine is a lesbian (2) another woman finds her attractive, and (3) there's a few mentions of the heroine's partner. That is it!
The heroine could be a little nicer to her work partner. I wouldn't put up with her constant condescension.
Overall, it's a good story and of course Abby Craden makes every book enjoyable.
I'll listen to the next book in the series, but I'm hoping for a bit more sapphic content.

Pure Crime Novel with an LGBTQ+ MC
I love that this wasn't a romance! This book is a crime novel which happens to have a lesbian main character.
The story is interesting, engaging, and kept me guessing until the very end. The beginning was a bit rough due to the abrasiveness and aggressiveness of Chiara, but the story didn't stay so... grating, for very long. All of the characters had depth and complexity, and there were reasons to root both for and against all of them.
I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading/listening to the next.
Would Recommend.
