Publisher's Summary

By the time James Frey enters a drug and alcohol treatment facility, he has so thoroughly ravaged his body that the doctors are shocked he is still alive. Inside the clinic, he is surrounded by patients as troubled as he: a judge, a mobster, a former world-champion boxer, and a fragile former prostitute. To James, their friendship and advice seem stronger and truer than the clinic's droning dogma of "How to Recover".

James refuses to consider himself a victim of anything but his own bad decisions. He insists on accepting sole accountability for the person he has been and the person he may become - which he feels runs counter to his counselor's recipes for recovery. He must fight to survive on his own terms, for reasons close to his own heart. And he must battle the ever-tempting chemical trip to oblivion.

An uncommon accounting of a life destroyed and reconstructed, and a provocative alternative understanding of the nature of addiction and the meaning of recovery, A Million Little Pieces marks the debut of a bold and talented literary voice.

Worst Book I’ve Ever Listen To.

Even for fiction this is ridiculous. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked a book more. He walks into rehab and a woman instantly falls in love with him. Meets a mob boss and that guy makes him his “son”. Meets a federal judge, he risks his reputation to help him. There is no escaping the raw wonderful-ness that is James Frey.
Gets advice, doesn’t need it, his wonderful-ness will save him, and on and on. Re-listen to something else before you listen to this.

The author is a scumbag

The book is well written, and easy to get sucked into. Having said that, there’s no way I could like this book knowing that the author lied about these events. He comes across as the guy in high school that always tries to claim that he parties more than the next guy, and then goes on to say that he is stronger than orgers that are fighting addiction. He needs to be bitch slapped by everyone in an AA meeting.

I didn’t care what happened

This book was so highly reviewed that I was sure I would love it. I didn’t. The author spent so much time on describing the mundane (examples, where every piece of furniture was located, puking in great detail 6 or 7 times, every time a character looked to one side or scratched their wrist). Little time was spent developing characters so when I was more than halfway through the book I realized that I wasn’t invested in any of them. I didn’t care what happened to the main character or anybody else. I was bored, the story just seemed to repeat the same situations, over and over and over again. I gave up and picked a new book.

Stranger Curiosity

Knowing that parts of this book were proven to be untrue, ruined it for me in a major way however, it also piqued my curiosity enough to purchase and listen from beginning to end.

Just so so

I got this because I heard they were going to be making a movie about it, so I thought I’d check it out. It’s not good. The narrator was the best thing about it.

One of my favorites!!!!

I own this book, and I've read it God knows how many times. This story, though dark as it may be, is beautiful.

Lame

Story of a “tough guy” in rehab who falls in love with a junkie prostitute who dies in the end. If this is real I would love to hear the real story behind this guy because I’m sure everyone who went through it with him has a different story about how it really went down.

Triumphant !

A finely portrayed account. I laughed in horror and wept tears for the character's triumph.
