Publisher's Summary

Jenny Weston moves home to Bear Falls, Michigan, to nurse her bruised ego back to health after a bitter divorce. But the idyllic vision of her charming hometown crumbles when her mother's little library is destroyed.

The next-door neighbor, Zoe Zola, a little person and Lewis Carroll enthusiast, suspects local curmudgeon Adam Cane. But when he's suddenly found dead in Zoe's fairy garden, all roads lead back to her. Jenny, however, believes Zoe is innocent, so the two women team up to find the true culprit, investigating the richest family in Bear Falls, interrogating a few odd townspeople, and delving into old, hidden transgressions - until another body turns up.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland, Elizabeth Kane Buzzelli's quaint and compelling series debut will delight cozy mystery fans new and old.

Easy read

I like to listen to cozy mysterious while I clean my house, this was a fast paced and had some twists and turns I didn't see coming.

Cute

Everything you enjoy from a cozy mystery! I particularly enjoyed the quirky neighbor, Zoe and although I'm not an Alice in Wonderland fan, I like her regular quotes.

curious mystery

struggled to finish this. didn't enjoy the story at all. the passages about Jenny and Johnny were over the top. I could have easily slapped either of them.

Glad it was free

This book might have been tolerable Jenny wasn’t so completely pathetic. What 36 year old hasn’t gotten over being dumped by her high school boyfriend and still pines for the greasy married drunk?

The constant Alice in wonderland references annoying.

Can’t stand pathetic spineless female characters.

How is Zoe Pronounced?

Nothing ruins a really good story like having the reader mispronounce a main character’s name throughout. I cringed every time I heard it and it was almost enough to make me stop listening. Fortunately, the story was really good.

BTW the answer to the question, in case you too are unaware, is “zoh-ee”. Two syllables. Not “zoh”.

Too much drama.

The story was good but the reader seemed to make everything a big drama. It could have used a little humor. The characters were interesting. I guess I wanted to see a little more retribution towards Jenny's ex-husband. Otherwise I enjoyed the book.

Interesting twist with __Alice in Wonderland_

(As posted in GoodReads.)
It was entertaining. Some aspects for more the little predictable, but there definitely were surprises. The characters were interesting and interestingly developed. I was disappointed with the ending, but I know that was just me.

Nice surprise

A bit of an Eeyore beginning... but a nice tale well told and time well spent. A nice job of developing an attachment to the characters which which made me care about the outcome.

A joy to read

Thoroughly enjoyed the literary quirks of this mystery. it was a fun read that had me smiling and laughing throughout. The twists and turns between imaginary and the real made me feel like I was chasing the White Rabbit. So glad I took the time to listen.
