Story
What if you found a way to send something back in time? But not weeks, days, or even minutes back. What if you could only send something back a fraction of a second? Would this be of any use? You wouldn't have nearly enough time to right a wrong, change an event, or win a lottery. Nathan Wexler is a brilliant physicist who thinks he's found a way to send matter a split second back into the past. But before he can even confirm his findings, he and his wife-to-be, Jenna Morrison, find themselves in a battle for their very lives.

Publisher's Summary
Kelly, Justin, and Otto return in a riveting near-future thriller. From the million-copy New York Times best-selling author.
"Richards is an extraordinary writer" (Dean Koontz) who can "keep you turning the pages all night long". (Douglas Preston)
The Enigma Cube is an alien object of unlimited power, with technology that can catapult civilization to dizzying heights - or destroy it entirely. Kelly Connolly and Justin Boyd are determined to wield its power for good. But China has a cube of its own, and its motivations are much less benign....
Otto Richter is an unparalleled genius. To save his own life and reunite with Kelly and Justin in 2027, he's forced to travel back to ancient Rome. But when he arrives things go horribly wrong. Now their reunion can take place only in the past. Worse, he learns that the alien cube plans to meddle with the timeline. To intervene at a point so pivotal, one wrong move by the time travelers could completely obliterate all of modern history.
"Richards is a worthy successor to Michael Crichton." (SF Book dot com)

Shouldn’t have gone there
I have enjoyed all of his other books, after all they are science fiction, but there are some topics that should be left alone.
We all have the rights and freedom to feel and believe however we choose, but.... writing a fictional book that uses someone, who a large part of humanity, revere, love and worship as there Savor,.... as a fictional and inane character in your story, isn’t a respectful or even a wise choice.
I’m not saying that he isn’t free to make up any story of his choosing. Just that it was a disrespectful choice.

Exceptional!!
Richards definitely took a risk with this one. Without giving away the plot, the setting itself is risky and the first book is brilliant so anything after that would have a hard time living up to it. But he absolutely succeeded. Has become one of my favorite authors. The amount of research that must have gone into this is evident. The storyline binds perfectly to first book. And the way he was able to stay neutral and open minded knowing he can easily offend one group of people or another was truly well done. A pleasure to listen to and pleasure to share beliefs with.

should have chosen another time
Once the story veered into disrespect of Christianity I was deeply disappointed. I thought the first book was original and clever though I did find his historical ignorance disconcerting. There are many pivotal periods he could have chosen instead of taking a contemptuous attitude towards the faith of millions.

Another DER Effort Worth Reading
I have listened to at least ten of his books, and they are not always home runs, but they are always full of interesting technology and ideas and generally good storytelling. I may have noticed in the more recent books a desire to focus more on “relationships”, and that is possibly not executed as well as other aspects of his stories. Still, high marks again, and I will look forward to the next one.

Excellent series, highly recommended!
I have reviewed several books and I have a handful of favorites that I will literally stop what I am listening to (usually once it's either at a good point to pause or until the end of the chapter) and this series is now among that short list. This story is very addictive, entertaining and keeps me wanting more. Odds are very good that you will get attached to one or more of the characters in this adventure. I can't wait for more!

Good character development, interesting tech some even based on reality. Had a hard time putting it down, listened to a 3 hour stretch more than once.

Interesting
This book just like the first fills scatches that Sci-fy itself that i get but also is extremely thought provoking. The premise behind omnipotent power, time travel and human augmenting is thoroughly interesting, then you get the back story behind the time travel which opens a whole new can of worms and for me in a good way.
Both the story and the performance done by Dan Bittner is fantastic. I cant wait to see if the is a follow up to this story.
