Publisher's Summary

For fans of The War That Saved My Life and other World War II fiction, A Place to Hang the Moon is the tale of three orphaned siblings who are evacuated from London to live in the countryside with the secret hope of finding a permanent family.

It is 1940 and William, 12, Edmund, 11, and Anna, nine, aren't terribly upset by the death of the not-so-grandmotherly grandmother who has taken care of them since their parents died. But the children do need a guardian, and in the dark days of World War II London, those are in short supply, especially if they hope to stay together. Could the mass wartime evacuation of children from London to the countryside be the answer?

It's a preposterous plan, but off they go - keeping their predicament a secret, and hoping to be placed in a temporary home that ends up lasting forever. Moving from one billet to another, the children suffer the cruel trickery of foster brothers, the cold realities of outdoor toilets, and the hollowness of empty stomachs. They find comfort in the village lending library, whose kind librarian, Nora Müller, seems an excellent choice of billet, except that her German husband's whereabouts are currently unknown, and some of the villagers consider her unsuitable.

Excellent Historical Novel

Both the author and the narrator do an excellent job with this book! The plot will certainly want to make want to cry and I definitely did not want this book to end but I was really happy with the ending. As my daughter said "this book is about family and how the 3 orphaned siblings always wanted to stay together no matter what".

Sweet Story!

My family and I absolutely loved this book. Every night we sat cocoa or tea in hand listening to the story and wondering what was going to happen to our new friends: Edmond, Anna and William. We are certainly hoping this author gives us more books to listen to and read! The narrator did an excellent job as well. Thanks for such a lovely listen Kate and Polly.

this story is marvelous...I got engaged as much or more than my son. it is so well written. I cried many times and laughed so hard. Books like this don't come around so often anymore. I didn't want it to end.

cute story for children and adults

Enjoyed this book about Evacuated Children in England during WW2. It was a wholesome story
with the exception of the "Rat Killing" the details of which I did not enjoy.
Loved all the details about the lending library and the books. Narration was very good.

A place to hang the moon

This book is quite spectacular as it is set in one of the most horrible times and yet makes it sound happy and even enjoyable I would recommend this to thousands with a large word dictionary in there house though. ;)
