Publisher's Summary

His scandals were right on track until she derailed everything.

As the successful owner of multiple railroad lines, Diana Barton is all too accustomed to fending off suitors seeking to stake their claim on her wealth. In order to keep the wolves at bay, Diana has contrived the perfect plan: appeal to the most notorious rake in London, the Baron Lord Bryant, to ruin her reputation and scare off the worst of the time wasters. The ruse will be no hardship - she’s secretly been fascinated by the man for years.

Lord Bryant is well aware of his questionable reputation. Indeed, he has cultivated the image carefully, and the last thing he wants is a wife. When he’s approached by the younger sister of a business associate, he tells her in no uncertain terms that he cannot help. However, when he sees for himself what she is up against, Bryant grudgingly offers his assistance. Faced with his most complicated entanglement yet, Bryant is firm in his conditions - and Diana knows that to get romantically involved with Bryant would spell certain heartbreak. But as the counterfeit couple grows ever closer, the line between truth and lies becomes blurred, threatening both Lord Bryant’s well-laid plans and the future of Diana’s railroad business.

A True Regency Romance

Clean, light, regency. This story is yummy! With well developed characters, witty dialogue, and light drama, makes this a GREAT read for relaxing, traveling, or the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed this author, and narrator. Highly recommend, especially if you like clean romances.

Excellent clean and sweet!

It’s so nice to find an author that can write an excellent story without all the sex! This is one of my new favorite books!!!
Noah Wall is my absolute favorite female narrator! She is an amazing artist! I absolutely recommend this audiobook!

Clean, sweet regency romance

I had read the second book in this series, A proper charade” soe time ago when I stumbled across this one. I wish I had gone back and reread it before I read thsi one, although it is really not necessary. I enjoy the humor this author brings to her novels. I do think she bends the “rules” of the regency romance society a bit, and as another reviewer said, she doesn’t take into consideration the likely consequences that would have befallen a woman during regency society. That being said, I genuinely enjoyed the story anyway. I think I liked the characters and the humor most of all in this novel. I definitely recommend it for a relaxing pleasant read.

Best ever!!!

This is my favorite type of romance: quick witty humor, deep/real personal pasts that almost get in the way but not in an annoying "come ooooon already" sort of way. Also loooove romances (appropriate ones like this one) where it's just the love interest characters stories, I get bored when they develop the side characters too much lol.

This book was absolutely delightful and just perfectly checked all my boxes for what I love in a historical romance!

Loved it

I had heard so many good things about this book and it lived up to them. I was in an audiobook slump, so decided to try one I would probably like. I did!

Swoony hero who is a scoundrel, but not really. A heroine who is smart. While it has a more contemporary feel with a woman (GASP!) running a business, I think it’s a fantastic read. It’ll definitely be in my re-listen queue.

The narration was seamless and added to the story rather than detracted. She was not noticeable and that’s a compliment. I was able to just be drawn into the story and enjoy it.

Damaged Baron meets headstrong businesswoman

Story: 5 stars

The characters in this story are entertaining and have some depth. (I’m not certain how historically accurate they are, but if you are ok with current mores in a Victorian setting, then this book is worthwhile.)

It’s a clean love story and is ostensibly set in the Victorian era when railroads are big business.

Narrator: 3.5 stars

Ms. Wall does a really good job with expression and cadence. Her male voices are low enough to be believable. Loss of 1.5 stars because her British accent is not truly British. If that doesn’t bother you, then know that in every other aspect, she really is a good voice actress.

surprised and delighted

I am a fan of regency romance. This one was refreshing to have the woman be strong, insightful. successful in business, and comfortable in her own skin. It was a clean romance, a great story, and narrator. I highly recommend this book.

Really enjoyed this book!

I have read a lot of proper romances and sometimes the can become a but boring because they seem to be the same to me. This story mixes things up a little and is more unexpected. I was really entertained and didn’t want to put it down. I’m not overly critical of books (i congratulate any author able to pull off a novel) and I’m sure there are those who may not have liked this one. But if you enjoy a sweet romance that makes you good then I highly recommend. Don’t worry about critiquing and just let enjoy!
