“Utterly charming… A Proposal They Can't Refuse is a surefire winner!” —Mia Sosa, USA Today bestselling author of The Worst Best Man

Natalie Caña turns up the heat, humor, and heart in this debut rom-com about a Puerto Rican chef and an Irish American whiskey distiller forced into a fake engagement by their scheming octogenarian grandfathers.

Kamilah Vega is desperate to convince her family to update their Puerto Rican restaurant and enter it into the Fall Foodie Tour. With the gentrification of their Chicago neighborhood, it's the only way to save the place. The fly in her mofongo—her blackmailing abuelo says if she wants to change anything in his restaurant, she'll have to marry the one man she can't stand: his best friend’s grandson.

Liam Kane spent a decade working to turn his family’s distillery into a contender. But just as he and his grandfather are on the verge of winning a national competition, Granda hits him with a one-two punch: He has cancer and has his heart set on seeing Liam married before it’s too late. And Granda knows just the girl…Kamilah Vega.

If they refuse, their grandfathers will sell the building that houses both their businesses. With their futures on the line, Kamilah and Liam plan to outfox the devious duo, faking an engagement until they both get what they want. But soon, they find themselves tangled up in more than either of them bargained for.

This book had everything!

It is really rare that we give a full 5 stars in every category, but this book was EVERYTHING. Families, large and small. Good friends. Ex-lovers. People we loved and some we loved to hate. Fear. Love. Excitement. Pain. Confidence. Insecurities. And it was all so well-balanced that there wasn't too much of some and not enough of the other.

The whole friends-to-almost-lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers-for-real-to-enemies again-to-a resolution for every person in the book was amazing and so well done.

The narration was top notch and delivered with such perfection that the emotions, thoughts, cares, concerns and happiness of all parties was conveyed. And yes, there were some laugh-out-loud moments, too.

Just fabulous!

Nice Story, but not the narrator

I expected to like his book much more specially that the beginning was really awesome
The story is about Kamilla and Liam who are forced to pretend they are engaged to appease to their respective grandfathers and get their wished out of them ( Liam wants his grandfather to receive treatment for cancer and Kamilla wants her grandfathers blessings to be the manager of the family restaurant) but the more time Liam and Kamilla spend with each other, the more they develop feelings for each other
this is a friendship\frenemies turned to lovers kind of story, I liked that Liam was in love with Kamilla since they were young so the development of their relationship made so much sense, I really cared about Liam so much he is such a sweetheart, but Kamilla was a real pain on the rear .. but I liked her well enough because she does learn from her mistakes

the narrator was the worst part of the book, she was performing ok but her transition from english to spanish was so off putting, and she seemed really bored with the story and want to get it over with, maybe reading it will be a better experience

I loved so much about this story. The families, the friendships, the neighborhood (I know of it so that made it more special), and the complexity of the characters. OMG, the food!! I was so hungry and wishing for the food throughout, lol. I loved Liam's gesture. IYKYK. Read it! You'll fall in love with them. The narration was excellent, as well.

Lovely Romcom

Childhood friends-turned enemies-to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. I love the tension that comes with a good enemies to lovers story. Then add in the deep-rooted history of childhood friendship, and it’s a perfect recipe for swoon-worthy romance. I loved the rapport between Kamilah and Liam from start to finish.

A Proposal They Can’t Refuse is a lovely multicultural love story. It’s sweet, spicy, and good for the soul, like a pineapple jalapeño margarita on a hot day! I have always loved matchmaking aunties and grandmothers, but meddling grandpas are next level fun! This telenovela style romcom has everything! The way Natalie writes dialogue that flows seamlessly between Spanish and English is perfection. Kamilah’s big family is boisterous and endearing.

Natalie Caña writes zany characters and heartwarming plot, with a touch of sob-worthy feels. Valentina Ortiz did a beautiful job narrating this audiobook. Valentina’s performance gave life to Natalie’s beautiful characters with perfect pacing, a lovely cadence, and passion. If you love a spicy enemies-to-lovers romance with a broody hero, a spitfire heroine, and heaps of heart, you’ll love A Proposal They Can’t Refuse.

Story was great and I loved the switching back and forth between English and Spanish! I can’t wait for Natalie Caña to come out with another book!
I thoroughly enjoyed Valentina Ortiz’s narration. She did a beautiful job conveying personally and multiple accents! Best audiobook I’ve listened to in a long time!
