Publisher's Summary

“With lush world building and lyrical prose, A River Enchanted feels like the echo of a folktale from a world right next to our own.” (Hannah Whitten, New York Times best-selling author of For the Wolf)

House of Earth and Blood meets The Witch's Heart in Rebecca Ross’ brilliant first adult fantasy, set on the magical isle of Cadence where two childhood enemies must team up to discover why girls are going missing from their clan.

Jack Tamerlaine hasn’t stepped foot on Cadence in 10 long years, content to study music at the mainland university. But when young girls start disappearing from the isle, Jack is summoned home to help find them. Enchantments run deep on Cadence: gossip is carried by the wind, plaid shawls can be as strong as armor, and the smallest cut of a knife can instill fathomless fear. The capricious spirits that rule the isle by fire, water, earth, and wind find mirth in the lives of the humans who call the land home. Adaira, heiress of the east and Jack’s childhood enemy, knows the spirits only answer to a bard’s music, and she hopes Jack can draw them forth by song, enticing them to return the missing girls.

As Jack and Adaira reluctantly work together, they find they make better allies than rivals as their partnership turns into something more. But with each passing song, it becomes apparent the trouble with the spirits is far more sinister than they first expected, and an older, darker secret about Cadence lurks beneath the surface, threatening to undo them all.

With unforgettable characters, a fast-paced plot, and compelling world building, A River Enchanted is a stirring story of duty, love, and the power of true partnership, and marks Rebecca Ross’ brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.

LOVE

I bought this at the recommendation from a friend and I was not disappointed. Cadence sounds like an exciting place to live.

Very descriptive and enchanting story

This was a wonderful read and I was drawn in from the very first moment! It has adventure, fantasy, heartache, reconciliation and more. I adored it all and the story was very easy to get lost in. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy, romance, adventure and lore.

Excellent story

I found out about this book from an Instagram page for harpists. When I got it I really couldn’t turn it off! I’m not sure if this is newly published and understand there will be a second book to finish the story. I can’t wait. And please put it on Audible. I can’t tell you how many series I have bought and then subsequent books aren’t on Audible or there are two missing in the middle of a series. So frustrating.
I cried my eyes out at the end of this story and just know there will have to be a happy ending for Jack and Adaira.

Political Romance

I was expecting a fantasy about a magical bard and the fae but instead I got a political fantasy romance. The first chapter of this book does not set you up well for the rest of the story, it doesn't even prepare you for who the main character is. The dialogue is also flat (towards the end it felt like half of what the characters said were each other's names) and I feel like half the scenes were unnecessary. The book also never takes a moment to slow down. It's just one major event after another and a lot of wasted space in-between.
Maybe if I was expecting a political romance I would've enjoyed it more.

Slow burn

This story was written beautifully, and the narration is the cherry on top. I enjoyed this take on magic and how the humans and “spirits” interact. Worth the listen of you enjoy in depth descriptions of fantastical places or near poetic lore. Be warned though I did not find this mystery fantasy a fast paced one.

Amazing narration!

Loved this story! I would have enjoyed reading it, no doubt, but the narration was excellent and added so much to the story. Her inflections and voice changes were spot on. So glad I did this book as an audio.

Enchanting indeed

So lovely. This felt like a cross between Outlander and The Witch's Heart. Deeply developed characters, multiple layered love stories, spirits, haunting atmosphere, and the Scottish narrator was *chef's kiss.

A lovely tale

This story was very pleasing to listen to, and lays the groundwork for what I'm hopeful will be a robust series. I would recommend.

Meh

I checked out this book, because I saw a review saying if you liked the Green Knight then you would like this book. Wasn’t terrible, but I would never recommend it.
