Story
Milo. Unusual. Quirky. Different. I’ve heard it all. I’ve accepted I’m not for everyone. When I find out I inherited a bookstore and apartment on a small East Coast island, I jump at the chance for a new life. Turns out I’ve also inherited a sexy, tattooed guy who not only rents the space next to my store but my apartment too. Gideon. I wasn’t looking for a roommate, but it’s not like I can stay at Milo’s place while he’s banished to a hotel. According to Milo, we’re bestie goals. And if he doesn’t wear pants at home, who am I to complain?

It started out as a little fun. When there was a man in my building on a hookup app, why not message him? Only we didn’t meet. We just texted - one night after the other, after the other. GoodWithHisHands was the perfect escape from my life, where pressure was always on my shoulders: my father’s expectations, the worry about my sister, Maddy, getting sick again, and her ex-husband, Ryder Lynwood, suddenly back and volunteering at the same hospital as me. I like talking to him, the same way I enjoy chatting with GoodWithHisHands. They weren’t supposed to be the same person.

Story
The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

Story
I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

Payne. In search of: Room to rent. Must ignore the patheticness of a 40-year-old roommate. Preferably dirt cheap as funds are tight (nonexistent). There’s nothing sadder than moving back to my hometown newly divorced, homeless, and lost for what my next move is. When my little brother’s best friend offers me a place to stay in exchange for menial duties, I swallow my pride and jump at the offer. I need this. I also need Beau to wear a shirt. And ditch the gray sweatpants. And not leave his door ajar when he’s in compromising positions...

My new stepbrother is insufferable. You'd think it wouldn't matter since I won't be here for long, but this guy gets under my skin like no one ever has. All-American, baby-faced, blue-eyed band dork and star soccer player. Everything about him is the picture of perfection—unlike me. I don't think Do Gooder knows I'm starting senior year late. And he definitely doesn't know why. I've got secrets I'm taking with me to the grave.

I've been in love with my best friend since forever. Okay, fine. Like, kindergarten. It started out platonic, obviously, but then became.... Nope. Still platonic. The problem is that Parker Ellis has been straight since forever. And that makes it difficult to convince him that the two of us are meant to be together. And now, there's no point. All is lost. He's gone and gotten engaged to his high-school sweetheart - which means I have to grin and bear it, while pretending to be the happy, supportive best man, while he prepares to commit his life to a woman.

When it comes to hockey, I'm all about the game. I've worked for years to be one of the best in the league, and l've done it without splashing my orientation all over the tabloids. My hockey image is one I've carefully cultivated, and after one night with Ezra Palaszczuk, I risk it all. He's cocky, obnoxious, and has an ego bigger than Massachusetts. And okay, maybe he's the sexiest man I've ever known. We'll never get along. Not when we sleep together. Not even when my possessive streak awakens. That doesn't stop us from falling into bed together over and over again.

Kind, caring, and protective. Those are the three qualities I’m looking for when it comes to my dream man. In a city as big as Chicago, you wouldn’t think he would be that hard to find, right? Wrong. Sure, my boss found a super-sexy detective and my best friend fell madly in love with the most eligible bachelor around. But the only person I’ve met recently is a broody bad boy who saved me at a sketchy pub. He’s grumpy, rude, and honestly, not that likeable at all. Hardly my “dream” guy. So why can’t I stop thinking about him?

Publisher's Summary
Roman Reynolds needs a housekeeper and Ezra Powell is arguably the best. Despite their rocky start, Ezra is determined to set Roman’s house to rights without any distractions, if only the man would keep his shirt on and stop looking so damn handsome all the time.
An ex-NFL player and confirmed bachelor, Roman has been on a long losing streak when it comes to men. When his best friend (and notorious prankster) says he’s got someone who’s perfect for him, Roman knows it’s too good to be true. But then Ezra comes along with his shy smiles and thoughtful gestures and Roman’s hardened heart finally begins to thaw. Both men have been hurt before, both are a little shy when it comes to love, but when the opportunity to form a deep and lasting connection arises, will they be bold enough to take it?
A Soft Touch is a sweet and steamy 73K MM romance novel with low angst, lots of cuddles, and a bona fide happy ending. Content warning for ableism.

I didn't feel the emotion
This was a nice story about finding love between an ex-NFL player and a very intelligent young man with autism. I loved Roman and his patience and caring toward Ezra, but I just didn't feel the emotion from Ezra. He seemed like a child to me in many conversations and the way he freaked out over things (like the blue cheese incident). That made the sex stuff feel odd. It seemed like he was a child who maybe didn't really understand the significance of everything. Maybe it's just me, but this one was just okay for me.
The narration was okay, but sometimes felt a bit stiff and unemotional. Most of the time it was fine.

Roman and Ezra
This book has it all. Age gap, disability, and race difference. Roman is an older black man, who was a Quarterback, now Restaurant owner. Ezra is a young autistic man, needing a place to stay. Jay hooks him up with Roman as his housekeeper. Watching these 2 shy men come to terms that there is attraction, is very well written. Narration was a blast.Romqn

Ezra is the fresh breeze Roman never knew he needed. The sweet, shy guy who works and lives extraordinarily organized and brings the needed structure into Roman’s life. Sweet Love Story
Ezra and Roman are a super sweet couple and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. Ezra is hired as Roman’s housekeeper and the sparks fly right from the start. I really like Roman’s patience and understanding with Ezra and how protective he is with Ezra also. It was great that they really got to know one another before they started their romance. The narrator did a good job with the story and the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

Great characters
I loved Ezra and Roman! Ezra is one of the best characters I've read lately. He is totally open and out there, no filters and you always know exactly where you stand with him. He is just what Roman needs to organize his home and his heart. Roman is definitely not your stereotypical ex-NFL player. He's been hurt in relationships before, but is so smitten with Ezra and so able to deal with everything Ezra says and does. James C. Jones does both of these men justice in his performance. We get all their differences and all the love.

The Sweet Love Story of Roman and Ezra
‘A Soft Touch’ is the absolutely adorable love story of ex-NFL player and current restaurateur Roman and computer programming student Ezra. Roman hires Ezra as his live-in housekeeper, where, over time, their feelings for each other grow stronger.
The story is age-gap--as the title says--but that doesn’t really occupy a major theme in the story. A more prominent theme is close-proximity--Ezra and Roman spend ample time getting to know one another. My swoony romantic soul LOVES this. Also playing a large role is Roman’s protective nature and Ezra being just about the cutest cinnamon roll (-ish) man ever. The angst level is so low as to be almost nonexistent. Laura Lascarso brings the sweetness as advertised.
Lascarso also delivers the steam. Ezra and Roman’s relationship slow-burns to the ‘sexy times’ for reasons clearly detailed for the reader. Ezra’s progression from sexual inexperience to exploration of kink is excellently depicted. It reads as natural and true-to-life.
This is my first listen to a James C Jones narration. He does such an excellent job giving voice to Roman and Ezra that I look forward to hearing many more performances from him in the future.
This is a voluntary review that I have written after requesting a free review copy of the audiobook.
Recommended.

Warm, funny and hot as fire!
This story grew on me page by page til it cemented itself in my top three! It's wonderfully warm and snort-laugh funny frequently. If you think that means it's not hot though, you'd been mistaken. All the key elements are there and perfectly combined.
The story is engaging and low angst and the couple sweet and sincere. By the end you're delighted for the couple's HEA and it leaves you with that warm feeling in your chest.
Well worth the read!

WOW!
I had the rule that I only hear audiobooks that I already read in other format but after reading the blurb of this book I decided to break my rule. This is the first book I have ever read written by Laura Lascarso and I was not dissapointed. The story of Ezra and Roman was sweet and cute, but also intense and steamy. I loved how the author managed the dynamic between them and how slowly, they understood and accepted each other. Mr Jones also made a wonderful performance, with a very nice and smooth voice and great acting skills. I loved this book so much!

So good!
Roman and Ezra are not the typical couple. Roman is an exNFL player and Ezra a very special student. An age gap romance, sweet and light. I loved Ezra, so raw and honest and dirty minded. Roman is full of patience and love, catering to Ezra’s needs. They are great together… and the narration makes it that much better to enjoy.

Such a sweet story and fantastic narration
I was given a free audio copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.
I am so glad I was chosen to review this one. It was amazing. It sucked me in right from the start and I could not stop listening. Both men were hurt and reluctant to trust but had instant sparks and helped heal each other. They were both fantastic and well developed characters and they had amazing chemistry. This was super sugary sweet and really steamy. There's no angst, just love. Ezra is autistic and I thought that it was represented both accurately and sensitively. There's one scene with a rude person that may offend but is portrayed in a manner that it isn't tolerated. It was well written. There was great world building but the friend who played a big part in this one was someone I'm not sure I would want to read more about. Regardless I absolutely would recommend this to anyone who likes sugary sweet romance.
The narrator did a fantastic job. He had a really pleasant reading voice. He kept a good pace and he was age appropriate. He expressed the emotions amazingly and brought the story to life. He did different character voices for the characters and they suited the character really well. It was a wonderful listening experience. I hope this narrator does more m/m.

Great story.
Really enjoyed the story the author really got the autism right. but I found the narrator voice a to deep which made the narrating different characters voices difficult especially the women.

Wow
Have you ever read or listened to a book and thought now I must have imagined just how good that was and listened to it or read it again? This was what I did here. The characters were well thought out, planned and researched and it was just sweet there was no over the top drama etc it was just beautiful.

Great Book, totally unexpected.
Roman and Ezra, Ezra is introduced to Roman through Romans friend Jay as a housekeeper.
Two completely different people, Roman being a retired NFL player with a shoulder injury, now a restaurateur and confirmed bachelor, who didn't need a housekeeper. Ezra is a complete nerd studying computer programming and needs to categorise everything in his life and other people. Slightly autistic, especially when it came to food, with a love of games.
I enjoyed this book immensely, the dynamics between the two main characters are well balanced, and I love how Roman was so caring towards Ezra and very protective, even before they got together.
The story is well written, especially around how graphic Ezra is when talking about anything, especially his biological reactions.
Main areas - Age Gap, Interracial, Nerd/Jock, Autistic MC, Graphic sexual acts, Food phobias.
Well narrated, clean and clear, good accents. James C Jones is new to me narrator, it was enjoyable to listen to, and I will lookout for more books narrated by him. I sped up to 1.25 on Audible, which is usual for me.

I received this audiobook for free from GRR at my request. My review is my opinion and an honest review - neither the author nor GRR influenced my opinion.
