Publisher's Summary

Five seconds.

A deafening blast. Pain. Silence.

That was all it took for an IED to end my life as I knew it. The man I was shattered in a hard wave of sound and debris that rained down on me like death itself. And six months later, after waking up to an inescapable hell, I found myself wishing that death had found me. Until her.

Miranda Jacobs swept into my life like a cool breeze on a smoldering day. With her smart mouth and her ridiculous jokes, she brought me back to life one minute at a time. Turned out time wasn't on our side.

Five seconds.

Screams. Twisted metal. Silence.

And I'd lost it all again - only this time, I had no one to blame but myself.

Excellent narration and fabulous story!

One of the things I love about Amie Knight is that she can encompass so many feelings and emotions in her books- she can write witty dialog, touching emotional situations, and passion too! A Steel Heart had all of this and more. I loved how quirky Miranda was- after meeting her in See Through Heart I knew she was a character I wanted to get to know better. (Please note that A Steel Heart can definitely be enjoyed as a standalone.) I enjoyed her profession so much- she's a romance novel editor! So perfect! Holden's story was captivating and had me gripped. Their meeting and interactions were so well-written. I was glad this was written in dual POV because both characters were so interesting and well-developed.

Both narrators were excellent. Although they are both new to me, I enjoyed their performances so much. My go-to speed for audiobooks is 1.25X and A Steel Heart was perfect at this speed- very conversational and easy to follow.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful Love Story

Wow... I absolutely loved Steel Heart. Holden and Miranda’s story crushed my heart into a million little pieces one moment and then had it overflowing with joy and hope for the couple in the next.
Miranda is a character to admire. She had a difficult childhood and experience the loss of someone dear to her at a young age but didn’t let her hardships make her into a bitter person. Instead she’s selfless and caring. She’s a woman both beautiful on the inside and out.
Holden seems like a rude and grumpy man on the outside looking in but really he is a man who has tragically lost a great deal in a short amount of time. Deeply hidden under his ruff exterior is a kind and loving man. A man who may even be a secret romantic.
Miranda’s persistence has Holden opening up and letting her in. She becomes the bright light shining in his sea of darkness bring him back to life. Just when it seemed like things where looking up something happens that may cause Holden to lose it all again.
I really loved both narrators. They did a fantastic job and I look forward to listening to more stories narrated by them.

Losing y itself is not love

The heroine lost herself for the name of love. Yeah that’s the whole story. The back and forth was just too much. I had a hard time connecting because of the push and pull. I think I got a whip lash from listening. I wanted too many hours. Shame on me!

An unexpected treasure

Got this anticipating a light, frothy, improbable confection of heroine and hero save each other in an unrealistic and formulaic happily ever after. And this has all that, but with an unexpected depth of emotions that leaves you feeling heartbroken and then pure pleasure. And I can’t omit commending the excellence of the narration of both characters. Well done, and thank you.

Good, but not great.

A decent romance, but the heroin was a bit immature, especially at the end. The hero's nemesis, an 8-year old rival for "May's" affections, made for some hilarious times.

Great love story. 1st POV. HEA. Standalone.

It was a great, easy listen. Not much angst. The narration was spot on. Very sweet. Love the ending.

Decent, but not as good as the first in the series

This wasn’t as good as See Through Heart (the first book in the series). I didn’t feel as emotionally invested and nearly gave it 3 stars (ok read), but it did have some aspects that were powerful so it deserved more than that.

I think it was the drama for the sake of drama towards the end that bothered me most. That, and the sudden turnaround in personality of a particular person in the epilogue that seemed to be included just for the sake of making it a fairytale, but it seemed unnecessary.

Still worth a listen, and I’m getting the next one in the series.
