In A Very Proper Monster, Josephine Shaw spends long nights filling the pages of her Gothic stories with the fantastic and the macabre, unaware that the suitor her father has arranged is one of the dark creatures she's always dreamed. No secret stays hidden forever. A phone call from an old friend sets mysterious book researcher Giovanni Vecchio back on the path of a mystery that has eluded him for centuries. Little does he suspect a young librarian holds the key to an ancient secret, nor could he expect the danger Beatrice De Novo would attract. Now both will follow a twisted maze leading from the archives of a university library, through the fires of Renaissance Florence, and toward a passion that could destroy them both.

Story
Katherine wasn’t looking for anything extraordinary in her life. She had a job she loved, a husband she adored, and a home in the beautiful seaside town of Moonstone Cove. Okay, yes, she worked too much and had fallen out of touch with all her friends, but that happened to everyone, right? And sure, she was feeling a little creaky in the mornings and couldn’t drink coffee after noon, but that was just life in middle age.

I was raised to be a ruler of two worlds. One with a pen. One with a knife. Be the king of the concrete jungle at all costs. I should've simply taken a queen, not courted one. I should've forced her submission, not earned it. I should've let respect be enough, not fall in love. Someone has made a grave mistake in coming for my company. For my throne. For my Mia Bella. Even after pre-ordering the pod that would allow them to play "Glendaria Awakens", Krista and Devin still had to wait months before they were able to experience the newest in VRMMORPG (virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game) technology. The wait was definitely worth it as they entered into a game world that was virtually indistinguishable from real life - apart from the obvious game elements of course. After starting in a typical starting town, they learned everything they needed to survive in this new world.

Publisher's Summary
An immortal wanderer. A brilliant scientist. A centuries-old menace written in blood.
Lucien Thrax, son of the earth and child of the ancients, is a healer of immense power. But years of work on a deadly vampire virus have not led to a cure, nor have they softened the wall he built around his heart. When he’s forced to work with Doctor Makeda Abel, Lucien is convinced he’s reached his limit of patience with humanity.
Makeda Abel may be human, but she’s far from impressed with the brooding vampire healer, even if his mind draws her reluctant admiration. She’s learned how to survive in the immortal world, and it’s not by being afraid. Working together may lead them to answers, but it also pushes Lucien and Makeda’s attraction to the boiling point.
When nightmares become reality, Makeda will have to trust Lucien with her life. Finding answers has never been more vital. Finding love has never been more deadly. To heal the elemental world, Lucien and Makeda must follow ancient paths and ask for help from the most inhuman of immortals. Because even with a cure in hand, the battle has only begun.
A Stone-Kissed Sea is the fourth novel in the Elemental World series.

Worth the wait?
I feel like I have been waiting for this book to come out as an audio book FOREVER, so when I saw that it was available I was ecstatic! Right up to the point where I realized that the narrator was different from every other book in the Elemental World & Elemental Mysteries series.
I am a big proponent of consistency, and this is exactly why. Though Ava Lucas did a good job narrating this book, the consistency that we had flowing through the other books is gone. It was obvious to me from the very beginning that the narrator did not listen to any of the other books in either series to get a feel for the pronunciations, personalities or background of these much beloved characters. This was most obvious in her pronunciation of Lucien Thrax's name, but it didn't stop there, and though I have no intention of naming every little mispronunciation she made, just know that they were on many of the keywords that have been used throughout these series.
However, what's done is done and there is no use crying over spilt milk. And if I was just judging this narrator on this book alone, without its relationship to this series and universe as a whole, I would say that Ava Lucas did a good job keeping the voices for the characters in this book consistent and adding her own unique brand of dramatic flair to draw you into the story.
As for the book as a whole, Elizabeth Hunter, as always, did a wonderful job of drawing you in and holding on to you through out the book… Not to mention giving you ample reasons to want to return to this amazing universe!

Narration was not up to par
If I hadn't invested so much time and money in both Elemental series, I probably would have returned this the first hour in. I couldn't stand the awful accents, or the change in a character's voice (sometimes so shrill and out of place it made me jump). The overall lack of sharpness/clarity took away from the enjoyment in a big way. Eventually I stopped going back when I missed what was said because I just wanted it over. The story itself was good, though not great like her other novels.

Slightly disappointed
The story is, as expected from the author, brilliant. The performance is good. If this is the first Audiobook of the Elemental series someone's listened to, then I think it's good. However, I was disappointed to be honest. In my personal opinion the voice characterisations of a different narrator, Dina Pearlman, are outstanding and hard to match. In this audiobook I found Lucien's voice a bit of a drone, but my biggest grouch is that Caerwyn became Irish not Welsh! To my ears anyway, and his 'voice' also did not suggest to me the large man as in Dina Pearlman's characterisation. I found Tenzin, especially, and Baojia so different too. I re- listen to this author's Elemental series on a regular basis but I struggled to get to the end of this and won't listen to it again.

I was engrossed in this story for hours!
It was so easy for me to follow along with this story and differentiate between all the characters. I loved this narrator and she was able to keep me fully in the story all the way to the end.
I’m a huge fan of Elizabeth Hunter and I’ve read all of her books. Being able to listen to them as well just grows my experience with the world she created. I feel like I’m able to stand beside my favourite characters and be there in their adventures.
