Publisher's Summary
Anne-Marie Duff stars as Blanche DuBois in BBC Radio 3's landmark production of Tennessee Williams' masterpiece.
Tennessee Williams' iconic play tells the story of a catastrophic confrontation between fantasy and reality, embodied in the characters of Blanche DuBois and Stanley Kowalski.
Blanche DuBois arrives unexpectedly on the doorstep of her sister, Stella, and her explosive brother-in-law, Stanley. Over the course of one hot and steamy New Orleans summer, Blanche's fragile façade slowly crumbles, wreaking havoc on Stella and Stanley's already turbulent relationship....
Embodying the turmoil and drama of a changing nation, A Streetcar Named Desire strips Williams' tortured characters of their illusions, leaving a wake of destruction in their path.
Tennessee Williams' 1947 drama is one of the most loved and well-known stage plays of the 20th century. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award in 1948, and the 1951 film adaptation picked up four Oscars. In this compelling radio dramatisation, Blanche is played by Olivier Award-winning actress Anne-Marie Duff, with a stellar cast including Matthew Needham as Stanley and Pippa Bennett-Warner as Stella.

Not for A Level students
This is a great production/dramatisation but some lines are cut or are rearranged from my Heinemann published edition, so I would not recommend it to A level students looking to study from this version, but nonetheless it has helped to refresh my memory of the storyline and play in general

Well performed but so dated now
Though still a popular choice as a stage play, it feels dated and so very of its time compared to Ibsen's play ' A dolls house,' which is still very contamporary and was written 70 years earlier.

Great narrators
The narrators were cast perfectly the only criticism I have for this reading is that the first introduction of Stanley and Stella isn’t like the original and I think it was a very important moment in understanding their relationship. Other than that this was great and worth the listen!

Excellent performance, not 100% true to the text.
Really good adaptation, used it in A-level class, so had to stop quite often and fill in parts missed.

A great listen but is not the whole script
The audible is a wonderful listen, great speakers and performance and still retelling Tennesse's Williams story with his words, but if you're looking for the exact and full script, this is not it.
