Publisher's Summary

In A Time of Courage, angels, demons and heroes face the ultimate fight for the Banished Lands. This is the epic conclusion to John Gwynne's mighty trilogy: Of Blood and Bone.

Battle the dark. Reclaim the world....

The King of the Otherworld is finally free. Armed with fearsome new starstone weapons, Asroth prepares to lead his demonic war-host south. And with the help of his bride, Fritha, he plans to crush the warrior-angels and their allies for good.

In the shadows of Forn Forest, Riv and the surviving Ben-Elim hold a war council – desperate to unite those who would stand against Asroth and his army. They decide to fly west, to join the Order of the Bright Star. But Drem and the Order are already under siege by a demon horde and their fragile defences may soon shatter.

Across the Banished Lands, armies are gathering to settle ancient grudges and decide the fate of humanity. Drem, Riv and the Bright Star’s warriors will need to call on all their courage as they face the final battle. But will it be enough, as their darkest hour draws near?

Critic Reviews

"Reminds me of why I became a fantasy enthusiast in the first place." (Robin Hobb on A Time of Dread)

"This book is so damned good...John Gwynne writes fantasy with the heart of a hero and the inventiveness of a master mage." (Sebastien de Castell on A Time of Blood)

awhh regtfully I've come to the end of the series

Have listened to all 3 (0f Blood and Bone) it is well written it smoothly moved from one to another, the narrator has an easy to listen to vice his narration of this story made this enjoyable the hardest thing was knowing this was coming to an end , some characters are great characters making you want more sadly I've come to the end
John Gwynne has hooked me in with his faithful and fallen books...now with the of Blood and Bone looking forward to the Bloodsworn trilogy

Better to Fight and Fall

This review takes in all three books: Moving on 138 years, battle-scarred the remnants of the human race fight for their survival in the most brutal way. But for those who betray their own, there can be no mercy. My heroes throughout have to be Hammer and Friend. The thought of them nearly dying tore me up. My disappointment at the end was in Bleda. He should have been more than he was.

This trilogy has been every bit as good as The Faithful and the Fallen and has been hard to put down. My only regret is that it is at an end and I will have to find another one as good.

Explosive end to a great series!

Very enjoyable! Easy to invest in the characters. Gwynne does his usual slaying of characters. It works, I think because it binds your heart closer. And a potential cliffhanger for good measure!

Probably just me but I thought the writing wasn't as tight as Gwynne usually is. There were several instances of 'data dump' that should have been written into the story instead.

Highly recommended!

Epic action throughout!

What an epic, combat riddled finale of emotion, retribution and revenge. Fantastic! Like D.G's Legend across a vaster scape and including way more heroines, heroes and villains.

No flow

I am only starting on this last book but already find it so hard going! I don’t know if this just bad soundediting but there is a gap after most sentences like you get between paragraphs or even chapters. Maybe the recording is done sentence by sentence and they are then edited together to create the whole and this has not been done here? Often the first syllable of the new sentence is missing too, which is an added annoyance. As a result there is no flow and this is not enjoyable to listen to. 😞

Decent but not as good as the first series

Not a bad story, nowhere near as good as the first series but entertaining enough. Not particularly inspiring narration.

Excellent finish

Really enjoyed this trilogy following on from the initial series.
Narration is fabulous, as it has been for all the books. The pace of the story is totally compelling.
Perhaps there is a hint of more to come?

It's ok

As with last series, I really loved all the books except the finale. I can't really put my finger on it but the endings of both this series and the last one just dont hit the mark.
