Publisher's Summary

An English village can be deadly, when your past catches up with you....

In the beautiful rural Somerset village of Lower Hembrow, crammed full with English eccentrics, something is amiss....

Landscape gardener Imogen Bishop has spent the last 30 years trying to forget one fateful school night but when her estranged husband Greg Bishop is found dead in the grounds of her father's Georgian hotel, danger threatens to overwhelm her.

Retired police officer Adam Hennessey, hoping for a peaceful life running his traditional Somerset country pub, finds himself drawn into the unfolding drama in the hotel across the road.

Imogen, Adam and Harley the stray dog form an unlikely partnership as they try to untangle a knot of secrets, solve a murder mystery and bring a killer to justice.

Wonderful

Another well written murder story in the Agatha Christie manner. It is wonderfully believable and has the suspense to keep you listening to the end. Love to find out how it all fits together. Never guessed the culprit. Most enjoyable to find another author that I love and a reader that holds your interest and allows you to hear it as if it was being told to you as a story with all the nuances one would normally use your self.

Pretty good

A Village Murder is pretty good with interesting characters and a well written plot. The pace was a bit slow but overall it was pretty good. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Like the curate's egg, good in places - but...

... for a freebie, it was just OK, However I'd have been annoyed if I had paid for it. I was doing a day's gardening at my son's new still-empty house so downloaded 'easy listening' to keep me company for the day.I sat over my evening meal to listen to the final chapter and found the ending so awful I was yelling "Well that was rubbish' with frustration to the substantial weed pile.

I really liked the narrator: she voiced characters of both genders very convincingly and had a pleasant, engaging tone so we were off to a good start. However, she outclassed the story by a fair distance.
This book is full of endless padding - with an unrealistic gathering of suspects for the denouement and a solution that was, in no way, embedded in the journey that got us there. It included huge leaps in knowledge including a previously unmentioned and clearly unloved character who actually had no bearing on the murders under investigation. it was lazy plotting: the seeds of the solution hadn't been properly woven into the narrative but the red herrings had.

What was most annoying was that the two central characters were quite thoughtfully drawn. They were original, had believable depth and you cared about their fate. Oh well. At least the gardening came to a satisfactory conclusion.

Mostly good

This is an easy listen, a good story well performed. The performer uses subtle accent and tone changes to indicate the different characters – I find her very easy to listen to.
Like manyBooks in this genre, the end is disappointing with some ‘made for tv’ moments Which don’t really work. Still, for a freebie, it’s a pretty good lesson

Very Average

This is a very bland formulaic book. Not bad, well read, but could have been written on a spreadsheet.

Hard to follow plot

The story tried hard to have twists and turns but only resulted in a mismatch of plots jumping from one to the other and often when returning to one plot skipping details that made it a smooth transition. At times you needed to assume the main thoughts of the main characters as they were not evident.

Really enjoyed both the story and the narrator.

I was looking for a story to get me through some stressful times. I love crime and fiction, and I but especially those that include a bit of light-hearted comedy and are not too overly dramatic or too explicitly violent. I had to already boot the ebook, but it but hadn't got around to reading it. As I saw I could get the audio book for free for a few weeks, I decided to try that and have thoroughly enjoyed thestory and performance ovf the narrator!

struggled to keep interested

overall I thought there were too many threads and romantic side issues and not enough meat to a main story. The denouement was overly melodramatic (and I felt a police caution have come in there?!) and I'm not sure how they got to the conclusions though it's possible I drifted off during some vital clue. A hazard of audio books! it was ok. I doubt I'd read another by this author.

Slow to get going

A little hard to get into at the start the longer I listened the more the story grew on me.
