Story
It should be simple - a dragon defeated, a slumbering princess in a castle, a prince poised to wake her. But when the prince falls asleep as his lips touch the fair maiden's, it is clear that this fairy tale is far from over. With a desperate fairy's last curse controlling her mind, Princess Aurora must escape from a different castle of thorns and navigate a dangerously magical landscape - created from her very own dreams.

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Isabelle should be blissfully happy - she's about to win the handsome prince. Except Isabelle isn't the beautiful girl who lost the glass slipper and captured the prince's heart. Publisher's Summary
The first book in a new young adult line that asks listeners: What if classic Disney fairy tales had happened a little bit differently?
When Jafar steals the genie's lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish. To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war.
What happens next? A "street rat" becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And listeners will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.

Loved this!!!
I have to start out by saying Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie of all time. When my friend bought me this book for my birthday, I was suspicious. Would I like a retelling? Or is the magic I love so much in the Disney story be lost among a new storyline?
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED it!!! This book was fantastic! The first bit was basically word for word of the movie but once Aladdin hits the Cave of Wonders, that's when the new storyline begins. The author does an incredible job at bringing a whole new magic to the story of Aladdin. I loved the new characters and the backstory she gave Aladdin & Genie, and the new character development she added to characters. Jasmine is a total badass. Aladdin is no longer a guilty liar. Readers get to see the madness of Jafar.
I would highly recommend this novel to anyone who loves Aladdin or readers who enjoy novels of impoverished rebellion. This was so much better than I ever expected it to be. I don't usually reread books (because there are so many I want to read) but his book I will probably reread in a few years.

Game of Thrones
Have a feeling Game of Thrones was playing in the background as she wrote the last chapters.
Kind of bummed with this one. Bit morbid and definitely for older teens and adults. Even though this series is “twisted” it would have been nice to have more comic relief from the Genie like in the movie.
Out of Liz’s books in the series the Straight on Till Morning is my favorite so far. The narrator for that one is excellent and I hope she does more for the series.

An overly logical retelling
I’ve now read 2 of Liz Braswell’s books, and I’ve gotta say this one let me down a bit. Once Upon a Dream maintained the groundwork of Disney’s version of Sleeping Beauty while keeping the fantasy intact. A Whole New World barely does either of those things. Other than the characters and setting, barely any of the original Disney plot exists here, plus a lot of parts of the story are drawn out annoyingly. We get that there’s going to be an all out war against Jafar, sure, but having several chapters dedicated to war games and planning is boring no matter who you are. The main issue here is the ending. It’s gotta be the most anti climatic ending Liz could’ve possibly thought of. Maybe she was running out of time on her deadline so she hastily wrote the last three chapters in one tired, groggy evening.

not much of a "twisted" tale. the first half seemed like an exact copy of the Disney movie. the last half wasn't very exciting or intriguing. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Twisted tales are the stuff that dreams are made of!
I cannot praise the author enough for the wondrous journey each of the twisted tales books take you on. Altogether, fantastic narration and writing. Just as I have with others, I purchased the hardback book and audiobook. A+ and 5+ stars! It doesn’t matter which twisted tales book you choose to read first because you’ll be hooked and will definitely want to read and listen to others! Definitely a series that will be treasured and loved for many generations to come. My daughter and I both loved them, so I strongly emphasize that readers of all ages will love them!

some spoilers
It recaps the movie events through the Cave of Wonders before it becomes it's own thing, which is a sizeable chunk of the book. It's not told from Jafar's POV even though he's the one who gets the lamp which was the biggest letdown, in addition to not wanting to write dialogue for Iago.

A Whole New World
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I've never been to into the Aladdin story, I'm not sure why. I got this to listen to to get into the live action version that came out. I know there is no relation between this book and the new movie but I just thought it would be fun to listen to it near when the movie came out since the characters are the same. I enjoyed this and I'm excited to get the rest of the books in the series.

Movie in my head.
I LOVE that this story is twist on the Disney story. While I'm reading, it's like the movie is playing in my head. And I can actually see, actually picture the characters. I love this series. I gave 4 stars, because sometimes the story is a little bit ridiculous and sometimes it's difficult to follow.
