Story
I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that's not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can't seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted; and then she was a wolf - all snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That's about the time I went into shock. And that was the moment he showed up.

I am Levy Michaels. Once my kind were the hunters - now we are the hunted. Supernaturals are out of the closet but I have to stay hidden because of the type of magic I possess. I’m a legacy. It sounds like the title should come with reverence, a trust fund, or at the very least a cool backstory - instead it comes with a death sentence. I have to hide in plain sight and pretend to be just human. I’m pretty good at it.

There’s only one rule in the world I come from. Keep our existence a secret. Period. The day my sister broke that rule one too many times, I knew there would be consequences. I expected us to be sent to one of those schools for “troubled” kids - and maybe Daizlei Academy was, in a way. But really, it was far more complicated than that. You see, I thought that world had forgotten me. Forgotten us. For years we were left alone, and one day...we weren’t. It was only when I got there that I remembered the second rule: Trust no one.

Story
In a world of darkness where royal vampires are in charge, I spend my days working as a knight in the city formerly known as London. Instead of a lance and a horse, I rely on my trusty axe, Babe, and ride the occasional dragon. Every day, new threats emerge that require a dash of magic and a dollop of attitude. Naturally, danger comes with the territory. What no one knows is just how dangerous it is for me. If our vampire overlords discover what I am, they’ll execute me on the spot — no questions asked — which is why I avoid them at all costs. Until now.

Story
Since I was born, I was destined to be one thing - the Alpha’s mate. It should be every girl’s dream. Not mine, though. He’s too dark and damaged, and I’ve got a secret he can never know: I’m not a true wolf. Instead of waiting for him to figure out that I’m an abomination, I left on my 15th birthday. But I didn’t go far. No way in hell would I let him drive me from the town I love. Ten years later, I’m still hiding in plain sight. When I occasionally see him on the street - deadly, sexy, powerful - I just walk by. Keep my head down. Until that night.

Publisher's Summary
She's the cure that could save him. If only she could remember how.
Two years ago, 20 year-old Samantha Knight experienced a life-altering trauma. Unfortunately, she can't remember what it was. Previously outgoing, fun, and carefree - it's as if someone flipped a switch on Sam's insides. Now, she's afraid of everything, socially awkward, and convinced she's going crazy. As Beyoncé would say, she woke up like this. Sam tries her best to juggle college classes, work, and the nosiest roommate ever, but behind the curtain, Sam's life is all about keeping a firm grip on her own mind. And life is kicking her ass.
Alex Channing has only one enemy in this world: werewolves. Born and raised to fight in the supernatural military, he has become an expert at hunting and killing rabid werewolves. But when Alex is bitten and infected, he finds himself racing against a ticking clock for his own survival.
Alex's search for a cure leads him to an oracle in a seaside town in California. And she gives him the reading of a lifetime. The key to his cure is a girl who forgets things, cries spontaneously, and might just be insane. And the only way she can save him is to do the one thing Alex knows is impossible: She has to remember.
Book 1 in the highly anticipated Heart Lines series, a spin-off of the best-selling and award-winning Dirty Blood series. Note: you do not have to read Dirty Blood first. You can start here!

Mesmerising.
Heather Hildenbrand has hit a home run again! Having adored her Dirty Blood series (I bought the ebooks, paperbacks and audible editions of each!!!), I couldn't wait to dive into this one!! Her Dirty Blood series is geared towards the YA market, but this is shaping up to be NA.
Anyway, this one is just as addicting as the authors previous books. It's so nice to revisit Alex (and see some Tara and Wes) and I'm beyond thrilled he got his own spin off series. Then we have Sam, who is so different than in the DB series!! You can read this as a stand alone series but personally I think you will get a better sense of the characters if you start with the DB series.
Well written and developed, with superb characters and plenty of action, this book is a must read. This author knows how to write amazing books and I can't recommend her books enough. This ends on a cliffhanger but we don't have long to wait till the next edition comes out so it's not too bad. Go buy it now, you won't be disappointed!!!
Lauren Anthony did an amazing job!! She didn't try too hard with the male voice, but still managed to portray Alex brilliantly. She had a lot of range and tones to bring the story alive. Loved the performance.
I was voluntarily provided this audiobook for free from the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

Werewolves and Oracles
While I really liked the premise of this story, the heroine, Sam, was so annoying I wanted to scream. She cried at everything. Yet I can see why she would be that way with everything that's happened to her. What's so bad is she doesn't even remember any of it or why she is so afraid of even her own shadow. However, someone else may not be so annoyed by her. I think my biggest problem is the psychological aspect of her not wanting to be out or around anyone because the whole time she was being described at the beginning, it reminded me of myself lol. And yes, I want to slap myself at time. Muribel (spelling?) was so aggravating. She would never give answers, only how Sam had to seek the answer inside her and all that. Her voice kills me but at the same time, it suits the character. There was too much of just getting to the answers only to be at the same place and taking to long to get there. We have Alex who is dying from a werewolf bite and only Sam can save him. Her memories have been wiped from her traumatic event of witnessing something. There was a lot of conversation and too much telling with not enough showing. But Alex seemed really hot and the love interest was good between them. On a positive note, there is a strong element of the Twilight series. But in a way that is unique in itself without copying. So if you like Twilight, I feel this is worth the read/listen. It's a young adult book so I'm sure young adults would love it.
The narrator did a superb job. She is great at doing different character voices.

truly original and easy to listen to
Has a very original plot an set up without feeling so out there that it's hard to follow. I loved the characters and the fact that it had very light sexy scenes. I like to listen when I'm cooking or cleaning and have to be mindful of my two young teens listening in. I plan on looking into the other books of this series an am hoping that if she has more on audible they might be either free listen or 2.99 sale ones when borrowed with Kindle unlimited!!! great series!!!

Loved it
What made the experience of listening to Remembrance the most enjoyable?
The story it self was very engaging.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Alex was my favorite character, behind his gruffness he is just a really good guy.
Have you listened to any of Lauren Anthony’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I haven't.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
That she could heal the bird. When Alex left for new assignment.
Any additional comments?
The narrator wasn't to bad. But every time she took a breathe it was very pronounced. So kinda threw story off for me.

Dirty Blood series lovers, pick this up.
If you could sum up Remembrance in three words, what would they be?
Entertaining, unputdownable, infuriating.
What other book might you compare Remembrance to and why?
The dirty blood series
What about Lauren Anthony’s performance did you like?
I liked the different inflections and accents she used for the side characters. It really helped bring out their character traits.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
When you see something potentially embarrassing coming, you just can't help feeling squeamish for them. If you were watching me listening to this book, you would crack up at the faces I'm involuntarily making.
Any additional comments?
This was a great beginning to the Heart Line series. I really liked Alex Channing from the Dirty Blood series and it was great to hear more of his story. The nice part is, you don't have to read that series to enjoy this one. Heather did a nice job of letting the reader know everything they need to know. Of course, by reading the previous series, you do get nice little Easter eggs. It's fun hearing Alex's inner dialogue about his choices in regards to Samantha. To be, or not to be. That is the relationship question.

broken
Samantha is mesmerizing in the broken way she functions through life. she's terrified but doesn't know why. Alex is a werewolf Hunter and the last thing he wants is to run into Sam because he knows what happened to her and why she can't remember. but he's running out of options to stop the poison that's slowly killing him and she's being attacked. there's violence, cursing, no bedroom scenes but some suggestive language.

Gripping fantasy
Would you consider the audio edition of Remembrance to be better than the print version?
I haven't read the book, but the audiobook was great. It was fast paced and the narration contributed to a feeling of suspense.
What other book might you compare Remembrance to and why?
It was a first Urban Fantasy I've had read in a long time, but thanks to this audiobook I'm going to try more from this genre.
Which character – as performed by Lauren Anthony – was your favorite?
I can't decide which of the main characters I liked more. Both Sam and Alex were performed wonderfully.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It kept me on the edge of the seat, and I felt bad for both Sam and Alex.
Any additional comments?
I'm definitely going to listen to more audiobook of the same author and narrator. It's a very interesting beginning of a series, and I'm looking forward to the next book.

Great AudioBook
Any additional comments?
I have already read this book, but I enjoy audiobooks and decided to listen to this one. This is a great series!
Alex... I think I fell even more in love with Alex in this book, but he also made me furious at him! What is not to love about Alex?! Honestly it is everything when it comes to him even including his hot and cold vibes. Normally I wouldn't be able to stand the mood changes so frequently, but you get to read from Alex's POV and learn he is having an inner battle with himself. At the time, Sam has a hard time with this, but I will get to her soon. **Spoiler** Furious at Alex you say? Well I was too with the way he just up and left Sam! Yes I am pissed at him! That was a low blow! He is blaming himself when even Sam isn't blaming him. He leaves thinking this is the best for Sam. Little does he know, but I have a feeling it is the worst for Sam as Alex seemed to help bring out her powers more. I hope to find out answers to the connection between the two.
Sam... Sam is the complete opposite from the character in the Dirty Blood Series. The life altering experience is something you wouldn't have even guess, but I will leave that for you to find out. Sorry I don't like giving away too many spoilers! Anyways back to Sam... She deals with everything alright. She sort of blocks herself from seeing the truth, but then Alex helps her believe in what she has seen/ is seeing. Once Sam learns what was blocking her memories, she takes everything very well. I cannot believe she just forgave people so willingly when she seemed to be so mad prior. I guess that surprised me. I am wondering if we will see a little more of the old Sam in the next book to this series.
Overall, I loved this audiobook! The reader portrayed the book well.

Sucks you in, good world building
Sam has missing pieces in her memory, things she is struggling to remember, a feeling of disconnect in her life. Nothing seems to help, despite attempts at therapy and even magically based interventions. But she’s also a magic skeptic, even while working in the shop of a psychic/oracle, even though that might be the key to her problem. Alex is a werewolf hunter, and is in search of a cure for the werewolf venom that is slowly killing him. When his search brings him to Half Moon Bay, and face to face with Sam, someone he had an intense supernatural interaction with two years prior, and he holds the key to her memory. Little does he know, she may hold the key to his cure, as well.
Alex is hoping to help Sam recover her memories without her finding out about his role in the circumstances, convinced that she’ll hate him when she finds out. Sam is oblivious to the supernatural, every experience she has vanishes from her memory - so it’s not just her history that is impacted, but her current memories, which is making her even more frustrated. All the while, the chemistry between them sizzles, despite the hot/cold she gets from Alex as he tries to fight his attraction. The main drive of the story is Sam getting her memories back, which is layered over the backdrop of these feral werewolf attacks that are happening around her. It’s action packed and the mystery is quite intriguing. The ending of the book resolves only a small piece of the puzzle, opens up more, and leads us into a deeper storyline for Alex and Sam. It’s a very good, solid start to a series, with some interesting world building. Looking forward to see where it goes from here.

Excellent
Another book I’ve had for ages and wish I had listened to sooner.
Alex was bitten by a werewolf and he needs a cure and ironically the one person who can cure him is Sam who he betrayed yet she doesn’t know it. Sam thinks she is broken but she doesn’t know she had her memories wiped after a werewolf attack and Alex was there although he didn’t agree with what her friends did to her.
Loved this story and Sam and Alex and hoping Alex gets the stick out his ass and admits to Sam how he feels for her before it’s too late.

Great character and world building
I received a free audio copy of this book directly from the author for an honest review.
After a bit of a slower start but great character building and world building the second half of the book I absolutely loved which throws you into a whirlwind of intrigue and a fair few answers. Although probably a bit slower than I prefer the start gave a great opportunity to introduce the main characters and show just who Alex and Sam are. Definitely felt I missed things at times so kind of wished I’d read dirty blood first but it is ( I assume)all shared by the end of the book! I really enjoyed how Sam’s anxiety was portrayed especially when someone assumed she would break down she pulled up her big girl pants and was like nu uh I can do this just to prove you wrong (it’s so me that it’s totally relatable for me!) I definitely will be looking for the next book and quite likely the dirty blood series too as I find the books very interesting.

Good story
The story did start out a little slow but it was interesting. I was hooked in the few minutes because why on earth would she willing chew Bella donna? But then you have to keep listening to figure out why. Good listen. I enjoyed the narrator.

A witches call Book 1
This is the first book in this series and is focusing more on Sam trying to recover her lost memories which is having an effect on her other memories, there is a bigger story still to be told. With witch's, ware wolves and hunter's it has good potential, why are some ware wolves going rogue and why are they drawn to Sam.....and can she help Alex as I am sure he still has more to do in future books. I enjoyed listening to the story.

Good Beginning
It took me a little bit to get into this story but once I did the story moved rather quickly, especially closer to the end.
There’s a lot of mystery surrounding Sam and her missing memories. She also has a strange aversion to men and dogs.
As the story unfolds and secrets are revealed it’s discovered that Alex and Sam have a connection and that he’s secretly loved her for a while.
Alex might even hold the key to figuring out what happened to Sams memories and coincidentally she might be the only one who can save Alex but will his guilt keep that from happening? Will it keep them apart?
At first I wasn’t a huge fan of Sam but as her character developed and changed I found myself growing fonder of her.
I liked Alex. He’s a great character.
The two complement each other. They both represent the shining light in the darkness for one another.
I enjoyed going on this journey with them and look forward to finding out what the next book has in store for the two.(3.5⭐️)

First instalment in the Heart Line series
“This is your path,” she said softly. “You have the goddess inside you - a second spirit that werewolves and Hunters alike must yield to. You are the goddess incarnate. You have come to right the balance.” - Mirabelle
Two years ago, Samantha Knight experienced a life altering trauma. Unfortunately she can’t remember what it was. Gone is the outgoing carefree girl of yesteryear to be replaced by a jittery anxious and socially awkward woman who suffers panic attacks around men and dogs and is convinced she is being watched. While juggling classes, Sam works for Mirabelle, a medium at The Oracle. Despite the strange occurrences around her, Sam is in denial of the supernatural community in general.
Enter Alex Channing, a Hunter who is searching for a cure for the werewolf venom that is slowly killing him. His quest brings him to seek out Mirabelle in the hopes that she will have the answers. He’s surprised to run into Samantha Knight, even more so when he sees how much she’s changed in the two years since he last saw her. Because Alex knows exactly what happened to her that night and why she has no memory of the trauma she suffered. Worst of all, the answer to his cure is dependent on her remembering that night and who she really is...
Remembrance is the first instalment of the Heart Line series and was also my first introduction to the author. The series is apparently a spin off of the Dirty Blood series which I have not read. While other readers made assurances that this would not be an issue, I personally found it a disadvantage as I struggled to understand and empathise with some of the characters who had been so firmly established in the previous series.
Remembrance briefly introduces the characters and touches on the world building. I’m glad that the author chose to tell the story from both Sam and Alex’s point of view as it offered better insight. Alex is a hunter who has been bitten and infected by a werewolf and is desperately searching for a cure or he’ll die. He arrives in Half Moon Bay to seek out Mirabelle, an Oracle on the chance she’ll provide answers. He meets Sam and there’s a spark of recognition on her part but due to a trauma she’s forgotten as a result of a memory wipe, she doesn’t know who he is.
At the same time we learn that something is attracting rabid werewolves to Half Moon Bay and Sam may be reason why. It appears that centuries ago, werewolves and Hunters were created through magic in order to maintain a balance between the two. When the god and goddess died, the magic was left in the hands of humans for safekeeping. Ultimately the magic is passed through the bloodline of the original humans gifted from the goddess. The bloodline keeps the magic alive on this plane. Sam’s family can be traced back to the goddess line meaning she is the answer to curing Alex.
Having listened to the audible version of this book, I did struggle to understand where the author was going with her story at first. This made Sam’s fear and confusion about what was happening around her relatable. It will be interesting to see what the author has in store for her now that her memory has returned. Kelly Pruner, the narrator made it easy to differentiate between the different characters.

Review
Absolutely wonderful story it was so good I listened to it in on sitting. It was riveting, I love the authors work and she has excelled herself with this start to a new series. The presenter reads beautifully and really did the story justice. I am looking forward immensely to listening to the next part of the story.
