Story
It was early summer in Brambly Hedge. Outside everything seemed quiet and peaceful, but inside the mill there was chaos. Poppy’s new babies were crying, Dusty’s mill was clattering and clouds of flour dust filled the air. This was no place to bring up a family. But what was to be done? The mice of Brambly Hedge came up with a plan in no time at all, and even Wilfred managed to keep it a secret from Poppy, so that she had the most wonderful surprise on the babies’ Naming Day.

Told from four-year-old Laura's point of view, this story begins in 1871 in a little log cabin on the edge of the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Laura lives in the little house with her pa, her ma, her sisters Mary and Carrie, and their trusty dog, Jack. Pioneer life is sometimes hard for the family, since they must grow or catch all their own food as they get ready for the cold winter. But it is also exciting as Laura and her family celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and treats, do the spring planting, bring in the harvest, and make their first trip into town.

'Dear Father Christmas, I'm very sorry that you couldn't come last year because the chimney was bricked up. We asked Pa to unblock it, so you could get down this time, but he said he couldn't because the wind would come in and we'd all be very cold.' Christmas is nearing, and for two little mice called Tumtum and Nutmeg it is a very busy time of year. There are cakes to bake and hams to glaze and ants to sugar.

Everybody must be out in 48 hours. It's Basil's job to move you all out, just the way he moved you in. Better make it fast! And leave the furniture - we need it. This is the only warning you'll get. Simply Wonderful
We loved every second of this audiobook. Mr. Moffatt did a wonderfully delightful job of bringing these characters to life!
We follow along with our book so we can look at the beautiful illustrations.
our only complaint is that we wish for the complete brambly hedge!! why were The Secret Staircase, The High Hills, Sea Story and Poppy's Babies left out? A terrible oversight that needs correcting.

Music, sound effects, mumbling
This audio book has too much music that dominates the narrator. Also it is very jaunty and distracting. This is not a relaxing way to listen to a story. The sound effects were lame. What was the story? Unsure could not hear it. Just want to warn others so they do not think this is a relaxing bedtime story.

A bit disappointed 😞
Seems like bits have been edited out from what I remember. On the whole still a listen and great for children but you may be left a deflated if you remember the stories from childhood.
