Publisher's Summary

AL:ICE: Captain Jacob Thomas USMC is a divorced combat veteran just trying to get his life back on track. Returning to the Marine Corps after a failed attempt at reconciliation with his estranged wife, Jake volunteers for an experiment that catapults him into a future where humanity has been stripped of 200 years of technological advancements and more than half its population. With the help of a faceless benefactor named Alice, he starts a journey to put Earth back on a path to recovery.

AL:ICE-9: With the help of the ALICE systems, Jake Thomas has successfully faced off with the hostile NeHaw three times. As he works to assemble a space fleet to address the expanding NeHaw aggression, terrestrial challenges at home continue to pile up, and the threat of a two-front war looms ahead.

AL:ICE: Resurrection: With unexplained transmissions originating in Europe, and an alien visitor with questionable motives, Jake is awash in new challenges on Earth and in space. Can the activity in Europe be a sign of troubles to come, or is it an indication of allies waiting to be discovered?

AL:ICE: Space War: Jake finds himself once again fighting a two-front war, one in space and one on the home front.

Creepy Naughty Sunday School Junkfood

This is decent if you just need something new to listen to, otherwise I’d steer clear. The series doesn’t really get exciting at any point, there’s no high drama, the casting call stereotypes are awful, just about every possible punch is pulled and the erotic parts are frequent yet only implied. Even the AI backbone of the series never amounts more to more than super personal-assistant. There’s just a sea of predictable characters doing predictable things with the main character having coincidentally epic amounts of sex. Sometimes with just slightly yet still underage girls. Yeah. There’s that too. Cringe.

Soft-core pornography disguised as a sci-fi series

I tried to like this book but it's just bad. I'll give you the short short version. Jake went to sleep as part of an experiment. Jake woke up 150 years later. Jake finds that he's the only desirable man left, and all the women want to share him. Cool. Yes, there's an AI...and alien tech..... but the story is about Jake and his ladies.

Full disclosure...I only made it through 8 hours of listening. Maybe it was going to get better.... but I doubt it.

lets talk about how to rate a book

1 star didn't finish book.
2 stars finished book but didn't buy the next book.
3 stars may or may not have got the next book just meh.
4 stars good book. Bought next book and enjoyed series.
5 stars this is your crack. You are stalking the author and he/she may even have a restraining order on you. Examples are Brandon Sanderson, Pierce Brown and Terry Goodkind's early works.
let's stop giving bad books 5 star reviews.
The author is living out his horndog fantasy with the main character. if it's normal to have lots of wives then why is the main character the only one with multiple wives. also they never lose a fight.... ever. you are taking on a intergalactic empire with people who lived a 1800s lifestyle and using technology you don't even understand and yet you systematically kick their ass in every engagement? Hay guys here is a spoiler they win in the end. eisley and without any chance that they wouldn't.

started okay, took a sharp turn for the worst.

it's a space harem and cannot recomend to any women as their voices are overshadowed by lust for the main character and all of them want to have his babies. Actual story plot gets pretty thin.I'm disappointed that the story couldn't be the main selling point.

Flat characters, male point of view overwhelms

I listened to the whole thing. I admit to a curiosity regarding what might happened next, but I do not recommend this collection.

All the characters are flat caricatures that do not grow over the course of the story. While women are given a lot of credit for ability and assigned high level opportunities, the story teller's view of women leaves much to be desired. The women are presented as wanting attention, even needing attention. The primary character, a man, has a fantasy situation where he is manipulated by an intelligent computer into taking several sexual partners in order to birth heirs to his unique status. The women are presented as more eager than he is for this arrangement and are always the initiators of sexual activity.

There is continuing emphasis on women's beauty about the male gaze.

Sex is presented as a transactional relationship to show appreciation for something or to pave the way for making a request. Again, the transaction is always initiated by the women.

At one point a woman's motivation is described as arising from a "hormonal firestone."

The aliens do not get more than caricature attention, either. Except for some physical differences, the aliens are described as though they are humans with human-like cultures and human-motivatiions.

Not a fan

it sort of seemed like some horny highschool kid wrote it. The main character impregnates multiple women because his bloodline is the only one the AI's will listen to. He sets surprises because he is afraid an enemy with no spying capacity might pick something up? Lots of the fighting didn't make a lot of sense. No orbital strikes? Advanced races unable to fight for some reason? Just lots of holes for me. I liked the voice actor. Just don't think I will get anything else from the author.

Just an opinion.

Didn't expect a post apocalyptic scene where the dude just builds a harem. And having no disagreements or issues with being drugged and used as a mating tool for a mechanical god.

Engrossing

Couldn't put it down. Excellent narration. Exciting, I enjoyed this series as much as I have enjoyed Robert Heinlein.

Guns, AI and polygamy

Well, I didn't hate it. I do have a few issues with this story, it is very sparse on description. I could not tell you what any of the locations looked like. The characters seemed a little 2D but did improve throughout the series.

On the plus side, the basic concept is a good one and the narration is solid, it just didn't get me excited, sorry.

Also..... St Pauls cathedral.. erm, how can I put this... its not a Catholic church, nor does it have nuns. OK so this lack of research is a tiny thing but it made me angry.

Terrible

Great premise and well read but my word what a poor story. Pure fanaticism by a guy who dreams of living on an island of women with no competition from other men. I was so disappointed with this but now understand how you can get 40+ hours for just one credit.

Cardboard characters

I’m sorry that I didn’t like this book because it had great promise and started off really well and then it went down hill. It became incredibly boring as it wasn’t possible to relate to any of the characters as they weren’t fleshed out enough. The author kept introducing new characters and I had the impression of a lot of cardboard mannequins who were able to move. It is very US centred and other places in the world only get brief mentions and then the action goes back to the US again. The narrator was also very softly spoken, although even he couldn’t bring these characters to life. I certainly wouldn’t recommend this book unless one had trouble sleeping.

Something to listen to

I had High Hopes when I purchased this box set as I love my sci-fi Adventures ,and I must say a very promising start the first two books had me hooked but from there on on it seems to be a Downward Spiral. Who purchases a box set 3 books in when they know the adventure is already started so why why was so much of the story repeated in all the next following books time and time again. We kept on going over old ground again and again and the end was just totally disappointing with everyone living happily ever after yawn. Sorry but I could not recommend this book.

Couldn't make it beyond a couple of hours

Just terrible, with so much quality around books like this just can't compete. I was trying to give it a chance, but everything is just bland, lacking in all areas including characterisation, descriptions, emotion and plot - an interesting premise but ruined by unbelievable decisions being taken by the lead character (even in the genre of futuristic fiction) . Two hours in and no compelling reason to commit any more of my time to this. Read the other reviews first and note that there are some recommendations for much better choices in them (wish I had done a bit more research but 42 hours for one credit seemed a bargain!).
Narration is as good as it can be with such limiting material.

White American conservative racist harem fantasy

Post apocalyptic America obliterated by alien invasions, but there is not a single non white American in whole book. By victim of circumstance the hero has a harem but really it's not his fault, he is just a good conservative guy. All the harem are white American heteroexual females. As a harem fantasy it's lame. The science is also sloppy.

Disappointing

I was looking forward to reading this book as I enjoy the "wake up in the future" theme, but this was just disappointing. The writing was lacklustre, unbelievable and uninteresting. Worse, it was sexist to the point of making me groan out loud on a regular basis. Like a previous reviewer I couldn't get past about 2 hours in.

The women (aside from the boringly subservient, female-designed "because it will make people more comfortable" AI) are "damsels in distress" needing rescue by the "hero" who describes them by their hair colour, breasts and body shape/size. He barely describes other men at all. He even mentions the women's night-clothes barely concealing their "assets", because of course... objects.

I couldn't help but feel I was reading a 1980's Mills and Boon. Returning for credit

Unchallenging at best, misogynistic at worst

This thing just flops along with our hero having everything just handed to him with no risk or challenge until he starts to recruit some helpers - who are all young gorgeous white women, who all fawn over him endlessly - and all are delighted to be part of his sexually active harem.
If you are young, male, like military stories, and sex stories - but don't like things complicated or challenging, this is the book for you!
Everyone else, steer clear.
I made it about 8 hours in before I gave up.

truly engaging story.

I found myself not wanting to stop not only is this an exciting and entertaining well-thought-out unique story but it also is brilliantly performed you have no doubt who individual characters were. even after 3 books I find myself wanting more.

Great long series to get the mind in a happy place

Great book series, at times it get slow buts that ride, it was great to sit back and listen to the story without overthinking it all :)
