Publisher's Summary

A beautiful coming-of-age story with just enough romantic tension to keep you listening late into the night.

Since the death of her mother, Abigail Blakeslee has lost any desire to become a debutante and enter Society. But now, foregoing her first Season has brought an unwanted invitation to join her aunt and cousins for a summer at Timpton House, the large estate of the Stanton family.

Reluctantly accepting, Abigail is thrust into the vexing world of social propriety and matchmaking she had hoped to avoid. More vexing still is her cousin’s suitor, the young Timpton heir - Edwin Stanton. Moody and distant at times, remarkably endearing at others, Edwin seems a puzzle she can never solve, but can never quite put away. But then, Abigail has her own secret to hide - her own mystery to conceal. Perhaps such puzzles are better left unsolved, or perhaps love can find a solution.

I was engrossed

I finished this at three-thirty in the morning. It's a rarity and a pleasure to find one I can't put down. This clean story has excellent interactions, character depth and development, and humor. It was so good, I had to speed up a couple scenes to get closer to knowing what would happen. One reviewer mentioned an unlikeable hero, but in the beginning, I expected him to be that way because of propriety and might have been put off had he acted otherwise. His interesting character soon had me hooked and didn't let me down. His sister was a fun surprise. Another reviewer mentioned the use of the word "I." The author blends those in seamlessly in this first-person point of view, and I barely noticed them because the story was so engrossing and it's wasn't overt.

Loved this story and the narration!

A beautiful clean story with great character depth and development. I especially loved the sister! The narrator had me engrossed in the story from the beginning. It reminded me of the book Pride and Prejudice as i listened, I’m pretty sure this is gonna be my new favourite author!

good story horrible reader

the story itself was good but the woman who read it was not, she had no emotion she was very robotic and made it hard to really enjoy the story and image it. I think had the reader been different the book would have been amazing but it was lacking

a story you can't miss

such a sweet love the main couple share. it truly feels based on respect and admiration for each other. the story has its twists and surprises and I truly loved the ending.

it has one of my favorite things which is NOT waiting until the last chapter to tie all loose ends and leaving you wanting. this book takes its time to let you enjoy the resolution and what comes after <3

Wonderful Story & Narration

Jess Heileman is a new author for me. I will definitely be looking for any future releases. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was difficult to imagine that it was her first release. My hope is that there will be an upcoming story for Laurence and Lydia to come in which we will also get updates on Edwin and Abigail. Highly recommended!

In addition, the narration of the audio version is wonderful!

Love this story

I had the pleasure of reading this book when it first came out. Being able to listen to it has been a real pleasure. I love this story. The characters & the entire story line is well developed & intriguing. Even having previously read it, I still had that anticipation of “will everything work out” like you get with a first reading. If you enjoy Regency Era novels then you will enjoy this story. This is a clean, feel good read that I definitely recommend.
