Finally a book I didn’t want to turn off…

Publisher's Summary
In this dark and steamy paranormal romance from New York Times best-selling author Mimi Jean Pamfiloff, one woman must trust a vengeful God with her life and possibly her heart.
Trapped for decades, a powerful god seeks freedom...and revenge. But the only thing that can save him is the passion of a woman's touch...
Emma Keane is your average city girl trying to get a date. There's just one thing holding her back: The disembodied male voice speaking to her through her mind. Sound kind of crazy? Maybe. But crazy turns downright deadly when the voice persuades her to travel to the wilds of the Mayan jungle. There she will free his bod - his incredibly hot, muscled, naked body.
Humans are so frail, so undisciplined, so susceptible to love. And when this ancient being connects with Emma, the feelings she sparks drive him utterly mad. Protective, keep-her-close, never-let-her-go kind of mad. Which might not be such a bad thing because from the moment the beautiful, passionate Emma unshackles his body, they are hunted at every turn. Now he'll have to do everything in his power to keep her safe. But will it be enough?

Tedious
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked the Narrator because she brought the characters to life. The problem is...you ever had one of those friends that talked and talked and talked and you come to the point where you kind of drift off wishing you could but in to either stop them talking or get them to back track? It started off well and two hours in, I wanted to kill the heroine. How could anybody be that annoying? There was the requisite too many misunderstandings that just got down right irritating. Not a whole lot of action. I got tired of the heroine constantly ready to believe everything negative. She might as well have given herself up to the bad guys in the beginning and saved the rest of us about seven hours of her repeating the same actions over and over again.
What character would you cut from Accidentally In Love With...a God??
The heroine and replace her with someone who has a clue.
Any additional comments?
The book did have some good bantering but even that began to drone on. I really would have liked to see these characters work together instead of listening to a book full of the heroine talking to herself. Constantly. Of course she comes up with more wrong answers than right. The ending was a cliff hanger. I hate those. The fact that you won't find out the outcome of that story until book three was even more frustrating. It wasn't worth a credit. It's entertainment value lie in the narrators characterization of the characters. This is what saved me from returning the book for a refund.

Tempted...tempted...
You know how sometimes a character does something and you're tempted to throw your book at the wall? Well, with audiobooks, that can mean expensive equipment replacement, so I controlled myself. Now this may sound like a bad thing, but in reality I suppose it means I really got emotionally involved. The down side of this was intense frustration with the lead female character in this book, Emma. Being more than a bit older, I kept having to remind myself "She's barely 20 something, she's barely 20 something", because there was many tempting 'throw it at the wall' moments in this book, and most of those moments (not all, but most) were instigated by Emma.
The relationship between the two lead characters (Emma and "Guy") was at times endearing, at times maddening, and at times totally baffling. Still, with the exception of a few monumental bad decision moments (on both sides), it worked for me.
This is one of those books that it's very hard to write a brief description of without spoilers, so I'll simply say it's a love story between an ancient god and a young woman who has spent her whole life listening to him talk in her head. She understandably questions her sanity, and in an attempt to find the real flesh and blood person behind the voice (and answer the question of her sanity...or lack thereof) she sets out on a course that will lead her through a series of adventures on the pathway to love.
There's lots of fast paced action, lots of frustratingly bad decisions, lots of miscommunication, outright lies, and manipulation on both sides. The writing is witty. There's humour throughout, even in the most tense situations.
If you are looking for erotica, look elsewhere. That's not to say, however, that there aren't sexy scenes, but they are few and far between and not quite as explicit as some books are these days. On the flip side, I wouldn't recommend this book to someone offended by sexual situations either. It's not "that" clean.
The narration was outstanding. I recently gave Helen Wick a less than flattering review for her reading of another book, mainly for her use of somewhat feminine voices for the male characters, but in this book, she has no such problems. Reading humour can be difficult for some narrators, but Helen Wick's performance was spot on. Bottom line, she nails it. Well done Ms Wick, well done!

Good thing it was only $4.95!
I have to say...it had such promise and then it got detoured, like through a volcano, on the other side of the world, during a time warp...detoured!
The synopsis has nothing to do with the plot, which in a nut-shell is:
Emma has heard a voice in her head for as long as she could remember...finally at age 22 the voice agrees that he is doing more harm than good and if she will travel to Mexico she can set his body free and he will get out of her head...so of COURSE she goes off to Mexico. There are chases, sexual tension (hampered by the fact that there is a consequence to touching him..of course there is!), a who can you trust plot...all in all it had really great bones but I guess the editor thought incessant whining and internal dialogue that goes on for HOURS was a good thing? *shrug*
In order to read this book you have to suspend reality, and I don't just mean like accept the idea that there are God"s", perhaps suspend common sense would be a better way to put it. The whole mess could have been avoided, the big dramatic climaxes were basically fizzled because you just stare at your listening device and say "well THAT was stupid!", as you slowly beat your head against the wall for STILL listening to this drivel!
WHEW, rant over...I obviously won't be getting another book by this author, but on the bright side narrator was decent! Her Spanish male accent....shiver!!!! *SIGH*
Okay enough said...off to some other nonsense in my library. I have decided I have too many unread books (curse you $4.95 sales), and so I'm starting at "A" and working through them...enjoy the ride!

The start was great.
This was a great book at the start, funny, witty and romantic. It lost me in the middle all the way to the end. To silly for me, even though it did make me laugh out loud a few times.I like this author and I will check in on more of her books later to see if the ends are as good as the beginnings. I hate it when it starts out great and the ending are a let down.

A VERY ENJOYABLE START A NEW PNR SERIES KICKS OFF
What a funny and fast paced original story that MJP has so cleverly written about - the Heroine Emma (a 22 yr old strong willed virgin) has lived with the constant domineering voice of Guy (aka Votan whose powerful, mysterious, arrogant and very opinionated - as most Gods are) for all of her life and she's finally had enough and sets off to rescue him.... or go mad.
Her never ending thoughts and snarky witty banter is hilarious and she's awe struck when she finally meets Guy, a drop dead gorgeous God whose mission is to free his fellow Gods and save the world from a villain bent on world domination. He's very attracted to Emma but doesn't want her involved so tells her very little which infuriates her and makes her vulnerable so she seeks the truth elsewhere but there are lies and misunderstandings galore but she's resilient and eventually finds it for herself.... but with dramatic deadly consequences.
There is lots of sexual sizzle, a couple of 'close encounters' but only one sex scene, yes this is a paranormal romance but most of the time they are arguing so it's not really romantic and the constant arguing and self-doubts does get repetitive towards the end which unfortunately seemed a bit rushed. However, this is a humorous, unpredictable, exciting and very enjoyable story with danger, mysteries, twists great characters and plenty of drama. With a small cliffhanger at the end with the arrival of a previously unseen character.
Worth a credit? It's a great start to a new PNR so very creditworthy and I'm looking forward to book 2 Accidentally Married To A Vampire and there's a short excerpt at the end to whet your appetite.

Asking for my money back.
I am over half way thru and had to quit. I just couldnt put up with the whining from the main star Emma. Everytime she got going I had to force my way thru her ranting and acting like a child. I finally called it quits after the second separation from Guy. I really think the idea of the story is good. I just cant get past Emma acting like a child and disloyal to Guy. Cant take it any more. I feel the reader performed well, just the Emma person drove me nuts.

Not what I expected
I can honestly say this is nothing like I thought it was going to be. I imagined a big, sexy, god coming onto the scene and falling in love. Oh no. It is a completely different take on falling in love with a god. I really never knew what was going to happen next because it was not your typical storyline.
It goes into a families' past and humans are not the only ones with family. If you think human family feuds are rough just imagine godly family feuds. There is action and mystery and it certainly worth the listen or read.
Helen Wick did pretty good narrating the book. I did like how she was able to give the gods a bit of an accent as if she was from another time.

I really wanted to love this book, and there were parts that made me laugh, but overall I just didn't like it. I tried listening to it several times but I just couldn't get into the story. The characters were okay, but there was nothing about them that drew me in. I also found it annoying that the main female character was so whiny and constantly overlooked the obvious due to her childish behaviour.
I probably would try another title by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff as I have read a few of her books and enjoyed them, and Helen Wick did a pretty good job with narrating. Unfortunately though, I just didn't enjoy this at all.
