I know what you're thinking. You're thinking this will be just one more story of the ignored, "big-boned" girl, who sheds her glasses and a few extra pounds and finally attracts the notice of the most popular guy in school. Except it isn't. Because I'm not unpopular. And I love the way I look - just as I am. Then someone puts my name in for Homecoming Court. The bigger surprise? People actually vote for me!

Publisher's Summary
Adorkable (ah-dor-kuh-bul): Descriptive term meaning to be equal parts dorky and adorable. For reference, see Sally Spitz.
Seventeen-year-old Sally Spitz is done with dating. Or at least, she's done with the horrible blind dates/hookups/sneak attacks her matchmaking bestie, Hooker, sets her up on. There's only so much one geek girl and Gryffindor supporter can take. Her solution: she needs a fake boyfriend. And fast.
Enter Becks, soccer phenom, all-around-hottie, and Sally's best friend practically since birth. When Sally asks Becks to be her F.B.F. (fake boyfriend), Becks is only too happy to be used. He'd do anything for Sal - even if that means giving her PDA lessons in his bedroom, saying she's "more than pretty", and expertly kissing her at parties. The problem: Sally's been in love with Becks all her life - and he's completely clueless.

Where is the character arc?
I kept hoping for some character growth somewhere in this book, but there was none. For any characters. The main character never changes. The love interest never changes. The over-bearing best friend with zero respect for her friend's wishes or boundaries never changes. the mom, who also has zero respect for her daughter's wishes and boundaries...you got it! never changes. Every single female character except for the main character, her best friend, and the mom is written as a vapid attention-seeker who wears revealing clothes and too much makeup. But of course our main character is "not like other girls" because she hates makeup and can drop geek-culture references like her life depends on it.
The narrator did a good job with the material provided, but the book still falls flat. It had a lot of potential that was, unfortunately, not explored at all.

Cute, but ...
You expect a certain number of leaps of faith and lapses of logic in YA romances, but this one had more than it’s share.. The whole premise was weak and it was compounded by these sometimes ridiculous ways the author kept the plot in the air. And the dialogue. Oh my. Everyone in it was a dork.

This is a great Book
I just finished Adorkable . This was an amazing story . I truly enjoyed this book. The best part of this book was the narrator Andrea Emmes . Andrea is always able to use her voice to take a story and turn it into an experience. When you listen , you get drawn into the story. And when you have a great story like Adorkable , and an extremely talented Narrator like Andrea Emmes , you can't loose. I highly recomend Adorkable.

Everything you expect for the fake boyfriend trope
If you are looking for a clean, YA romance and love the fake boyfriend trope, this is it.
This is my first time listening/reading a Cookie O'Gorman novel but it was constantly recommended by my Kindle and Audible accounts.
I am a fan of the fake boyfriend story. And the adorkable Sal, aka Sally, and her hot bestie since grade school, Becks, stick to that story line. Sal is the unknowing geeky hot girl in her senior year. Her best gal friend Lillian, aka Hooker, and Sal's mom are concerned she's not living to her full romantic potential. They constantly, and for me - annoyingly, bombard her with surprise blind dates. That bit is part of the plot set up for the fake boyfriend, but it was a bit over the top for my taste.
To stop the blind dates, she asks Becks, also a top soccer player, to be her fake BF for one month. He accepts. Sal learns that just because he's 'hers' many are not fully buying into it including a lot oif his whiny, hot girl fan club. So they have to 'prove it.'
Becks and are a cute match. Cookie does a great job of taking us on the 'doubt rollercoaster' - does he really like her or not? But, to be honest, there is a stronger character in this story. The boy who challenges this duo is set up as anti-hero, but he almost overshadows the main characters. I wanted to finish this novel quickly and move to his story. (Cookie? Are you considering?)
The narration was terrific. Especially with Sal's weird habit of speaking in German when she was passionate about expressing her secret feelings.
There was light cursing, no sex scenes, perfect for younger YA romance fans.

Passable story. Decent voice work.
I don't expect much from a teen romance story, but this seemed to fall a bit short of even that. Some character reactions seemed contrived, and the protagonist seemed too clueless to be human.
Otherwise, it's enjoyable enough.

Cute Story BUT OH MY GOD THE MOM AND FRIEND UGH
It was cute. If you're in the market for an easy read with some likeable mains and are as much of a sucker for the fake dating trope as I am, this is a good one to pick up.
(Real talk and spoilers ahead)
But honestly, the friend, Hooker (seriously why name your more promiscuous character Hooker? Like I know it's her last name and this book has a wierd thing with last names but for real.) had me wanting to throw the book out the window.
Hooker is the main character, Sally's, best female friend and also the reason for the plot to kick off, aka the reason Sally needs a fake boyfriend. Unfortunately, author did her job a little too well in making her completely overbearing and annoying, to the point that some of the things she does are completely, well, not irredeemable, but at the very least in need of some serious self reflection. Like, if I had a friend who treated me the way Hooker treated Sally, they would not be my friend for much longer.
Sally's inability to stick up for herself at all when her mom and friend plotted behind her back to force her on as many dates as possible didn't bother me... at first. Because, naturally, I assumed this would be a character flaw that she would have to overcome. Perhaps in... some kind of arc. Like books do with realistic, relatable characters, and Sally is nothing if not the epitome of a Relatable Character(TM)(she's Not Like Other Girls, you see). But by the end of the book no one has really learned their lesson. It's not even addressed. The fact that Sally had to resort to using her best friend as a fake boyfriend to stop her mom and Hooker from forcing boys (and at least one girl) on her was not even addressed with the aforementioned offenders. Like, there was a pretty clear resolution to this story that the author just didn't do.
Hooker and Sally's mom SHOULD have found out that Sally and Becks were in a fake relationship, and it SHOULD have been a come to Jesus moment for them where they understood the error of their overbearing ways. Sally straight up admits that she doesn't feel comfortable going anywhere anymore because she never knows when her friend or her mom are going to try to spring someone on her. And the lengths they go to are legitimately pathological sometimes, it's ridiculous. This girl is SEVENTEEN, so 1) she HAS TIME CALM TF DOWN 2) she's old enough to make her own decisions about who/when/IF she dates 3) the high school dating pool sucks most of the time 4) this is really something you should allow her to figure out on her own time and terms. For real, this was awful reading about and they NEVER GOT A SINGLE CLUE ABOUT HOW DAMAGING THEIR BEHAVIOR WAS AND I'M MAD ABOUT IT.
Overall, the relationship was cute and it was pretty clear that both of them were mutually interested in each other from the beginning so the main focus of the story was solid and cute. So... 2.75 stars from me. Probably won't reread but it was a pleasant way to spend the time, save for the crazy friends and moms, of course.

Cute but forgettable
I thought the story overall was cute. The characters lacked depth though, which bothered me.
I think what truly bothered me about the story was Sally’s best friend, Hooker. She was an awful best friend. She called her desperate to other boys and refused to listen to Sally. The entire time I wanted Sally to tell her for being a horrible friend. She was so concerned about Sally needing a man to be happy that she was never truly there for her. The story never addresses it.
I really wanted Sally to stand up to her father as well. It never really happened even though he was an critical part of Sally’s insecurities. I was disappointed by that.
Overall, the scenes with Beck and Sally were cute though. I just think the characters needed more fleshing out though for them to be memorable.

The title says it all
Seventeen year old Sally Spitz may be a little dorky, but she wears the label with pride. Her best friend Lillian Hooker (I am a little miffed at the lost opportunity to nickname her friend 'Lil Hooker), is determined to find Sally a boyfriend, and sets her up on a weekly round of horrible blind dates. After a particularly bad date, Sally hatches a plan. She'll find a F.B.F., a Fake Boyfriend, and get Lillian off her case. And Sally knows the perfect person to play her fake boyfriend, her best friend Becks. Star soccer player, honor roll student, and total knockout, Becks is the perfect person to play the role. The only problem is, Sally's been in love with Becks since forever.
The title says it all, this book is just adorkable! Sally is the perfect heroine, so true to herself. She doesn't care what other people think about her and isn't scared she'll look silly. Becks was so supportive and treated Sally the same, no matter what adorably dorky thing she was up to. I really loved their friendship. The best part of the book was how often it made me laugh out loud. It was a total crack up! I smiled, I laughed, I might have *sniff* teared up at one point. It was such a good read, and I definitely recommend it.
The narration was really well done, and fit Sally perfectly. It immersed me right into the story. Well done!

Cute
Predictable in a good way, the only odd thing was the way it was described when the main character spoke German. The narrator did it well (though I'm not a German speaker myself), it just seemed forced in places. Even with that, it was still a cute book.
