On the journey of healing

Dr. Sherrie Campbell spoke clearly and compassionately throughout the entire book. I found myself being completely heard by someone I just "met". Her ability to provide actionable steps that enable me to be on the journey of healing is something I value immensely! I often said, this is hard to get through because it is so true. As I continued to listen, it's as if the next chapter spotlighted what I was feeling or thinking about. This book is about a topic most keep a secret, however it is a VERY real thing! I love this book!

I was also fortunate enough to have a supportive spouse who also read the book with me to help bring understanding to my trauma and also be a supportive backbone to my journey of healing!

I've read/ heard 100s of books in my lifetime, this one is the one which I believe has made the deepest impact on my life!

Thank you Dr. Sherrie Campbell!

#notalone

I now know and accept that healing is a life long journey. That my feelings are real. That someone else gets the feeling nervous everyday & waiting for the floors to open at anytime. Thank you for being brave & vulnerable to tell your story, to share your inner, deepest thoughts. You are my hero .

Excellent content but overly one-sided

This is a great audiobook. It’s like she lived my life except in many respects. I can completely identify with her. However, as a Christian she makes some poor advice choices and lost spiritual statements. She often refers to the universe spiritually instead of referencing our Creator Father-God. She also made a statement about it’s your choice whether to forgive or not while coming across as if not forgiving is a healthy option. That’s the worst advice. We must always forgive AND put up healthy boundaries. Otherwise you staying in contempt and that is anything but healthy. Lastly, it’s very one-sided. It’s as if she’s never done anything wrong herself. We must always come to terms with we ALL fail, sin, and make bad choices. None of us are immune to thee aspects of the human experience. Now this DOES NOT mean that excuses abuse from anyone. Absolutely not! However, if there was more humanness in her approach by showing her failings ad well, it would be more healing. Not only for her readers, listeners but also for her! One of the hardest things I’ve learned over many years of dealing with this same stuff my entire life is that forgiveness doesn’t mean poor boundaries. Therefore she’s exactly right we do have to cut ties sometimes and put up very strong boundaries so we can heal and protect ourselves. But not forgiving will only keep ourselves locked in even if by a thread. Overall a great book though!

Difficult Topic, Expertly Addressed

Anyone who feels the need to read a book like this knows how painful and isolating this topic is. Sherrie Campbell addresses it as both a therapist and survivor, in a strong yet compassionate manner. She provides strategies and insight that are extremely useful. She acknowledges that many in society do not understand why we need to cut ties with family, but also reveals that we are hardly alone. She has lifted a veil and helped me to move forward with healing and power. Thank you, Sherrie, for standing up and doing this necessary work. Bravo.

Incredibly validating

Thank you Sherrie, more than words can say, for giving my trauma and abuse legitimacy. As a survivor of tremendous family dysfunction including incest, frequent raging, physical abuse, alcoholism, codependency, gaslighting, and triangulation, amongst other internal family crimes that were disguised as being “good for me,” I cannot thank you enough for giving me the validation I yearned for after recently cutting family ties. Over the past year, I have listened to countless books on the subject of Narcissistic Abuse, family relationships, and self-healing. This book, by far, has been the most liberating. Thank you for your courage to speak out and for your love of others who suffer in silence like me. Thank you for helping me to finally realize it was not my fault, but it is my responsibility to rise above the ugliness. I will not stop moving forward with the tools you provided in this book, and will listen to it as often as needed until I finally feel freedom within.
