Gregory’s life changed when his aether sparked to life during the Age Day ritual. He left his old friends and his old life behind, and was taken to the Magi Academy to start training to serve the Vela Empire. Suddenly alone and out of place, he prepared for the worst. When the beautiful novice, Yukiko Warlin, asked if they could be friends, his life changed again. After six months of duplicity from the people who they had thought of as friends, Gregory and Yukiko isolated themselves from all the other novices.

Story
Sean was just waiting for his best friend to show up at the bar so they could play some pool. It came as a shock when the tall blonde man accosted Sean and demanded that he change seats. His refusal would change his life. When the fight ended, Sean found himself in the strangest meeting of his life. Odin, Archangel Michael, Lucifer, and Morrigan all vied for his soul, each offering different deals. Sean had to choose, so he chose to go with the goddess of Fate, Death, and Battle.

Story
Alvin woke in a room that was not his, to discover that he had died and his brain had been bargained off cheaply to pay off someone else’s debt. It did not sit well with him. It didn’t surprise him that even in death, people were still using him for their own purposes. He had never exactly been a good guy, but everyone had their breaking point, and he had found his. The bastards in charge had uploaded his mind into a virtual death game. The whole world could now pay to see him play it and probably die. Regardless, he was not about to wait for death to come for him.

Story
Warner spent his days like almost anyone else. He got up, went to work, answered phone calls in a call center, went home, spent time with his daughter, and went to sleep. Only to repeat the pattern over and over and over. Life was as mundane as anyone could ever fear it to be. Today was the day that all that would change. On this day, his daughter Maya would be nearly fatally injured, plunging Warner into a world of paranormal creatures, monsters, and magic he’d never known existed. The only consolation is that he discovers he’s not quite human, either.

Story
John Doc Henry had been on the shortest, crappiest end of the stick since the first day of his life; no parents, bad foster parents, and abysmal luck at every turn. The day his life changed started out exactly like he had come to expect. His car died on a rarely traveled road, and he broke his toe shortly after dodging the one other car on the road. When it stopped and backed up to him, the license plate read “LADYLUK”, adding insult to injury.

I only got into trucking because my granddad was a trucker, and he was the best damn person I ever met. I'd always thought I was your average dude with an 18-wheeler and an addiction to energy drinks, but it turns out there might be something more brewing in my blood. Now instead of some desert highway, I'm stuck in a whole new realm, and it's full of worm cults, actual lot lizards, one seriously smoking catgirl mechanic, and enough sand and bloodthirsty creatures to make me think I took a wrong turn somewhere. But I might be able to add a whole new career path to my resume.

Publisher's Summary
Every year, the empire administers the rite of passage into adulthood. That rite serves to identify those blessed by Aether to become magi. The new magi are shipped to the academy to learn the arts of magic.
The academy is a dangerous place; the tournaments held twice each year can cripple or kill the students, and the clans of the empire will go to great lengths to recruit the students they want.
Gregory had one dream: to become a magi like the legends of old. Though he was ridiculed by the residents of the village and his unsupportive father, he never wavered from his dream. Would his age day bring the fruition of his dreams, or would reality come crashing down on him?

author missed being awesome... again.
tired far left tropes to be found here slavery and racism(+more) and then the female characters being better at most things then the male MC. the author had a great concept with work with actual other races other then the human race in the world almost could of shown us that the other race and mixed offspring where just like humans but had to be all blatant and boring smashing you the reader in the face with the don't be a racist slavery is bad flat out telling you and not showing you because the target audience would miss it if the message was shown instead of told like having Waldo take up both pages and the target reader still cant find Waldo. this is the second book I've tried from this author he almost can write a good book if he could only focus on entertaining people and showing us an epic tale and not pushing his political opinions. this one could be amazing if he could only keep his ranting and ravings out of it.
okay rant over so this story had potential for some empire forsaken nobody fringer who grew up in a decent community be the chosen one who could rise up in power to right the wrongs who found true love and rise to the top together.

whoa
This was SOOO different from what I expected from a schinhoffen book. Honestly its better than any of his other series, and im placing it above any of the wuxia books I've read except maybe the unsouled series, and maybe the cultivating chaos books depending on how the 2nd book turns out. Not a litrpg and the dirty stuff is missing from this book by a 95% difference then GFL and the others.
The story is different from the average wuxia, mc isn't overpowered but the set up is interesting. The story focuses more on lore and world building with action where it needs to be, all while the mc is trying to discover his magic.
Parsnips did great as always, and I have to rate this book 9/10 but a 5/5 if you go by stars.

knew nothing, love everything
I can't say a lot because there be spoilers, but I'll say this. I really appreciate the story breaking a particularly hated troupe of mine involving relationships. As well as letting the story flow like normal stories. No edgy plot, or surprise sadness and depression to make the character crawl back from the brink; i appreciate that at times.
Also loved the bloopers at the end Andrea rocks and sounds adorable.

Great listen. I'm not a fan of harem novels, but Daniel gets my reads because they entertain me. Suprisingly this wasn't one. it's like a real mainstream novel. there is definitely potential for the series. I'll be waiting for the next one. found it off putting
It felt like there was a lot of Japanese culture added to the story that just didn't feel right in this world. The main character wasn't exposed to it until the events of this book even though he never left his home country. Then the constant emphasis on how basically everyone who has power is a bad person was annoying. The world was made to be a terrible place to make the main character look like a good person, when he would be just a decent person on earth.

Excellent book!
This book was on start to stop with no pauses. It was so good I couldn’t put it down not even to sleep. The only disappointing thing about it is as of the time I am reading this the second book hasn’t come to Audible yet. Also the bonus of the bloopers at the end of the book were hilarious I wish more audible books included that.

SIMP: The Book
You can really tell it's written by a lonely middle aged man. Narration is annoying too, the main character sounds really really pathetic. Weird to say because I liked how she narrated the wandering inn, but it's annoying to listen to. The sex scenes are soooo cringy they should never have been written

ok so at first I was like...
let's give it a whirl I mean I like the apocalypse gates and even if I can't sit and listen to them publicly cause I have a young boy and parts he's not supposed to hear yet. let's see how this book is...
not gonna lie I love it world building is great it's far more suited to playing in the home with others around. also I am honestly reconsidering something I was doing in the past with my Asian theamed d&d games... namely how magic classes would work out.
that aside I like the story I'm seeing I like the growth and I obviously love Andrea's rendition please keep doing this series? amazing voiceing and paceing... and I should no go to sleep stayed up two extra hours to finish the book

OMFG! I'm crying laughing. OK, taking a deap breath.... So, this is a fun book. I will be listening to the next one and I highly recommend listening to this one. The story is good with a great slow burn sense of world building and character development at just the right pace to keep us on the edge. The narrator was amazing! When you get lost in the story, you may take for granted her range and talent until the book is over... then they slap you in the face with the bloopers!! Yep, this needs to be a regular thing from now on at the end of every book. I'm still laughing!

bad side
it is exactly the same as his other stilted uninspired books. one dimensional predictable characters weird and strange sexual bits. awkward .
I have no idea how a book like this gets written by a non robot.
good side,

Amazing story, you have magic, cultivation and an academy setting. The world is vast and interesting, the clans are unique and powerful. The MCs are both underdogs with interesting abilities. I can wait for more.

The overall story was interesting and I kept wanting to hear more.
At the same time I think that the whole sex/love part of the story was not written particularly well.
The narrator was clearly putting a lot of efforts to make the different characters sound distinct. I believe however that she picked the most irritating sounding ones for the main characters and I hated how it turned out

A grade-A performance of a grade-B story
This book reads like a snack, as opposed to a meal. It has enough substance to keep you going and coming back for more, but not so much depth you come back for a reread or think much about it outside of listening.
I want to praise Parsneau's narration, which really carried the story. Her voices and line delivery really sold the characters and set the tone of the various scenes. Excellent work!
The plot of the book isn't complicated, which makes it easy to follow the story. The world and it's inhabitants are well rendered, though the characters feel very two-dimensional.
Both the plot and characters come across as predictable, but it's more of a comfortable predictability. If you're looking for high stakes, plot-twists, and characters who fail and struggle to reach their goal, this is not the book for you.
If on the other hand, you are looking for a comfortable listen to straightforward success story, then give this book a chance!

Brilliant!
Loved this audio version and I've the ebook too. Awesome worldbuiling and characters, I felt really immersed in Greg's world. Looking forward to the next book and happy to see I've another 3 books left to enjoy! Don't miss the bloopers at the end, they had me in kinks laughing!

Im here to warn you before you start
This series starts off amazing and book 1 deserves all the reviews it gets, Im here to warn you that by book 3 50% of the book spends its time describing sex scenes in very explicit detail, the other 30% is describing the food eaten and the last 20% on random mundane shit. If you're looking for a series with fighting and advancing themselves this series is not for you, if you're looking for a erotic harem series thats pretty much porn then go ahead. Props to the Narrator she's amazing.

Was caught off guard by this book I am now a fan
The book its self starts out a bit slow for my taste but once it starts running i just couldn't stop listening the characters are well designed the villain is a little shallow but I expect with more time he will become a more exciting antagonist I can't wait to read the second book

Aether's Blessing
Daniel Schinhofen is one of the most talented and skilled author.
And I got to say I'm hooked on the This book and a can't wait to buy the next book in this series.
And with the voice acting talents and skills of Andrea Parsneau who makes the characters and world come alive with the narration of this book.
Also I bloody love the Bloopers at the end of this book lol.

Really enjoyed it, well worth the money.
My only issues are.
The MC’s aether/darkness is read like an evil villain. I’m not sure why, but if I was the MC I would be very concerned about the voice in my head.
The MC’s main love interest is sooooo annoying. Can you please just kill her off already.
Apart from that it is well worth the money and I loved it.
