Publisher's Summary

Curry James knows how to cope with being left alone.

Still living in the same white farmhouse where she grew up, Curry watched those closest to her leave - her parents by tragic death, her husband to war, and her best friend, Tom, who walked away because he couldn't deal with being left alive.

Then one day, without warning, Tom returns. Curry appears as down to earth as she ever was, but her survival has come at a cost, and now it's up to Tom to help Curry reopen her heart to life's joy.

Horrible narrator

Story was ok. A bit drawn out but the narrator really made it awful. Very hard to distinguish between male and female voices. Speech was very slow (I even sped up the recording and it was still agony) and the long pauses in the middle of sentences were awful. Could have been a decent book with a better narrator.

almost didn't read it.

I sped up narration to 115 and loved it after that.I would have given it a 5 totally except for the slow narration.

Sometimes love takes time

The three musketeers...that was Tom, Huck & Curry. They grew up together and both boys grew to love Curry as more, but Huck got the girl. Now decades later, Tom returns to get his childhood home ready for sale. Huck is gone but Curry and her teenage son are still living in the hometown. Can these former friends repair their relationship and become more? Sweet story.

Performance hard to listen to

Why does the narrator sound like she’s trying to sound like an 80yr old woman the whole time. It’s making it hard to listen the story.

Emphasis just not right at times

Story line was good, welcome surprise near end so not typical “held my heart for 20+ years” story. I did find the narrators emphasis just wrong at times and found myself thinking, what? Why that word? Found myself rewinding to see if I had missed something. Also reminded me of someone speaking with a mouth full.

narrator wasn't that good

I had a hard time listening to this book because of the narrator. Her tone was mostly even, not much reflection and made me feel like I was listening to someone very depressed, story line was ok.

I genuinely enjoyed this book

At first I felt like the narrator was speaking way too slowly but I learned to appreciate it. It matched the overall feeling of the story. The story itself was really well written. LOL moments for the witty bantering in it. Sweet and nice. Huck rocks! I wish my son to grow up to be just like him.
