Publisher's Summary

When a shocking scandal exposes Southern secrets...

As the blazing heat of summer gives way to sultry September, a shroud of suspicion settles over Noble's Crossing, a sleepy Alabama town. Nothing is as it seems - and never will be again. Lane Noble Graham stands accused of murdering her ex-husband. The one man who can help, Johnny Mack Cahill, vowed never to return to the town that scorned him - or the woman whose love he knew he didn't deserve.

...no one is safe from cold-blooded murder.

From the rusted-out trailers on the wrong side of the river to the stately pillared mansions along Magnolia Avenue, everybody has something to hide - but one secret could make Lane and Johnny Mack the next targets of a twisted killer who's struck once and is bent on striking again....

Story Great but Too Much Sex!

I love Beverly Barton’s plots but there are too many graphic sex scenes. They seem out of place in these books. I just fast forward lol.

The title should have warned me.

Personally, I do not need pornographic narrative in the books I enjoy reading or listening to. I will never get the connection aw to why sexually graphic context was deemed needed when trying to enjoy a good story. To me sexual matters are beautiful but personal, intimacies between two, not the world. Please, just tells an interesting and intriguing story.

storyline was good

The story was good, but the writing was a little juvenile for me. I would have preferred a more modern tone.

More soap and romance novel than who dun-it, detective story

Enjoyed the performance. But too soapy and romance novel for me. I you like well described intimate scenes, you’ll like this book

This was a great book! The characters were so well developed right at first, so you knew who needed protecting and defending. I recommend this book to all readers!

Classic Beverly Barton

Excellent narration. This story is exactly why Beverly is one of my go to authors. The story takes off quickly. The characters have depth. Beverly has a unique way of creating people you love to love, along with people you love to hate. The best part is that the villains always get what's coming to them.

Well !

This is a story !
An ok picture of Aholes, red nex, bad sex and all the other scum is southern US.
This more a story about the south and it’s ugly side then it is a novel !

There is one semi positive thing that I can say, it’s brave for a brilliant narrator like Stevens to try to save this and actually make it into a story but the context can not even Stevens save but it is an impressive try non the less ?

Truly awful. Don't waste your time!

Slow, flat characters. Some pretty disgusting story points that seem to be there for next to no real reason. The murder mystery is a very distant afterthought. Terrible writing. Very poor and unwanted erotica all over the place. You'll see every one of the 'Big plot-drops' coming a mile off. I grately commend the poor narrator dor managing to get through this absolute trash and waste of time, and hope she was at least paid VERY well for it. Why anyone would pay for this is beyond me.
This absolutely awful story (Which is a waste of data, paper, time, energy, battery and more) is also part of a series but doesn't have the main character of the series in at all. Which just adds to how totally pointless this book is.
Trigger warnings of domestic abuse and incest, too.

good story

I enjoyed the story and for once also enjoyed the happy ending, usually I'm not a fan if happy endings, that's not life!!
narration was ok, but at times annoying, female narration can fail for male characters, especially adolescent boys!!

the twists in the story were good and a couple if double twists too.
sex scenes I'm not a fan of, but these were tolerable (barely) and minus 1 star for use of the creepy word used by child molesters and s3xual deviants ( panties eeerqk).
Not bad for an afternoon read/ listen

Usually hate “romance” but this was a good story.

I usually go for a crime/mystery novel and this one started out very engaging. I realised I was into the wrong genre half way though when the throbbing “sex’s” really got into action. Usually I’d switch off after that but I was very much into the story so after a little skipping forward, I finished the story and really enjoyed it.
