The correspondence between Carrie Allsop and David Mayer reveals, piece by piece, the painful details of a devastating affair between their spouses. With each commiserating scratch of the pen, they confess their fears and bare their souls. They share the bewilderment over how things went so wrong and come to wonder where to go from here. Told entirely through the letters of two comforting strangers and those of two illicit lovers, Evidence of the Affair explores the complex nature of the heart. And ultimately, for one woman, how liberating it can be when it’s broken.

Publisher's Summary
When Lauren and Ryan's marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart and only one rule: They cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.
Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren's ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

A simple story told simply. .. no frills or extra fluff and yet so soulful. You know what the end is going to be and yet it keeps you glued till the very last syllable. Three cheers Ms Reid.

I needed this book
I didn’t even know what it was about just knew I wanted to read a second book from this author to see if the first book was a fluke. She is not a fluke she is amazing. She writes like no one I have read before. She says what we need to hear but not confrontational. It’s worth the read and you could take some good away with you

What constitutes a marriage
What constitutes a marriage? Lauren and Ryan are at a point in theirs where both are unfulfilled, unhappy and unable to reach one another. The couple mutually agree to take a year off from each other with no contact.
Without giving away too much information, both Lauren and Ryan, Unbeknownst to one another,do keep in contact by reading their email files. It is within these missives that each give voice to what they felt lacking in their relationship. It was in these emails Lauren learned Ryan had “found someone”.
This is a must read for any floundering relationship as it rings true. Ms. Reid has hit the bullseye with this heart wrenching novel. My heart broke for Lauren watching her wrestle with her difficult decision.
The audio performance exceeded expectations - well done.
This would make an excellent read for engaged or married couples to realize the importance of maintaining communication.

fascinating
This is the like the book equivalent of seeing a car accident on the side of the road, it make you sad but you cannot look away. This book was fascinating, I keep listening because I had to know what would happen, and up until the end I honestly didn't know. Obviously watching them break up is hard (you want to yell at them: "just go to counseling or something"), but then it gets to a whole new level of hard when they being to be okay in their separate lives, and you don't know whether your hoping for them to get back together or stay apart....you wont be able to put it down.

Must read
This book discusses so many topics like monogamy, what makes a marriage, love in all its forms, and self worth. The characters are kept somewhat bland but I think it was purposeful because it makes them more relatable. The scenes are so true to life that you feel like it is happening to you. As a married person makes you reflect your own marriage. Highly recommend it is worth the emotional roller coaster

A Fiction Self-Help Book, really
This is the perfect book for anyone going through a hard time in their relationships right now. It was just what I needed at the right time.
And as usual, Taylor makes it so easy to convince her readers that there will always be hope for human connections. No regrets.
Thank you to my wonderful sister Chooi Wen Khoo for introducing her work to me.
