Publisher's Summary

Everyone said she was the prettiest flower girl. But now her dress lies on the floor. It’s wet and torn, her shoes are lost. "Where did you go?" her daddy asks. She shakes her head. All she can remember are the red rose petals scattering like drops of blood spilling to the ground.

When Christine Lewis was a little girl, she witnessed something terrible at a wedding and buried it so deep in her memory, she managed to forget it ever happened.

Jessica Newman was a baby when she and her father came to live in an isolated cottage on the Irish island of Cullain with Margaret - the woman who loved Jessica as if she was her own. Until the day Jessica and her father left, and she never saw Margaret again.

Years later, Christine and Jessica cross paths working at the advertising agency Christine runs with her husband. These two women are about to uncover the dark secrets of their own traumatic pasts. But they have no idea that they are connected.

The shocking truth of what happened at the wedding all those years ago, and what became of Margaret, is going to blow their lives apart in more ways than each of them could ever have imagined....

Fans of Lisa Jewell, Gillian Flynn, and Sally Hepworth will be gripped by After the Wedding.

Couldn't finish - Returned

Sadistic! This is a trigger for me. I could not continue listening. The story did not seem believable even for the future.

The Best of the Best from Laura Elliot

Just when you think Elliot can't possibly get any better, along comes "After the Wedding". Aside from her consistently outstanding writing, Elliot once again proves herself to be a master of multiple stories involving richly drawn characters, and somehow manages to tie it all together in a brilliant and satisfying tale. In addition, Michele Moran is to be highly commended for her excellent narration/dramatization of Elliot's work. She is perfect in her performance. I can't rate this book any higher than as one of the best reads I've had in a quite a while-probably since my last Laura Elliot book!

It was okay...

It was just okay-- did not take long for me to forget what this book was about. It was just too unrealistic I guess. But I did want to finish it.

Torture

It's very rare I don't listen to a book all the way to the end, but this one is slow and boring with no storyline. There is nothing redeeming about this book

Confusing narration

This is a highly confusing novel which requires 2 female narrators. The first part is excellent and I was caught up in the unfolding drama - that is until the narration changes to a different character, goes back in time and then forwards to the present day. This was when both female protagonists, read by one narrator, became confused and baffling. I had no idea just who was passenger or driver in the narrative and became utterly confused. Not long before I was losing interest and just longing for the denoument so I could get my head straight. Such a shame but perhaps easier to read than listen.

Narration is too confusing

There’s a good idea of a story but the narration with the same voice does not work. It was constant confusion about whether it was Jessica or Christine who was speaking or being spoken about. A variety of narrators should have been used and I have to say that the way the name Christine was said was so annoying and not like I’ve every heard it pronounced before - this heavy emphasis on ‘Chris’ meant the name sounded weird every time it was spoken. Too annoying.

Good Story

I enjoyed the book but it got a bit too complicated for me, real coincidences do happen like that all the time, I am sure of that, was not quite the ending I expected. Well written & narrated
