In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

sex obsessed hero
I couldn't figure out why the heroine falls for the guy who tells her repeatedly how much he wants to have sex with her, even after she asks him for time to get to know him. He was so focused on sex throughout the whole story that I have a hard time understanding how he got to know her at all, let alone fall in love with her.

Stunningly beautiful
I feel as though I've been to Alaska after living in this story! And I miss it! So beautifully written, so poetic and heart warming...
I listened to this story while going through the most difficult heart break of my 46 years. It acted as both a distraction and a prescription for a broken heart. I can't say enough about this author. She touched my broken heart and gave it hope. Thank you Kat Martin! I walked the beautiful landscape of Alaska and found peace in your story. Buying the next one immediately.

Good
This is Lane and Dylan's story. Good but Dylan, as another reviewer mentioned, had sex on his brain from the very beginning. That got old and predictable. But this story was different bc of the "ghosts". Interesting and suspenseful.
Jack Garrett does an excellent job of narrating.

Very Exciting!!
This is a romance within several mysteries that is not easy to figure out before the ending of the book. Personally, I liked the reality of the situations within the many different characters. Animal lovers beware, the dog does get injured but makes a complete recovery. Yay!

This plot is old-
Would you try another book from Kat Martin and/or Jack Garrett?
Love Jack Garret. I have liked some Kat Martin in the past, but this was disappointing. I didn't even finish listening to it.
What about Jack Garrett’s performance did you like?
Great cadence, I love falling asleep to his voice.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Against the Wild?
All the scenes about being so rich and connected. It makes the story feel so escapist and fake.

Misogynistic 21st century view of women
I find there are many things I don't like about the story. When I first encountered the "she can't stay in Alaska because she's a city girl and won't last" and "I can't stay because he won't believe I would give up everything and never leave him (this reiteration happens on just about every other page), I know what's going to happen. The girl will happily give up her full life (career with a thriving company, friends) in order to tough it out in the wilderness of Alaska with hunky hero. Are we living in the 21st century or is the author still stuck in the 1950s??? What about a compromise? Since the fishing lodge isn't open for most of the year (mentioned a number of times in the book) why can't they spend time in both places? There's never any mention of any compromising on the hero's part. In fact, the most genuine sentiment I got out of him is his drive to get his fishing lodge up and running: he barely interacts with his daughter and his relationship with the heroine is primarily sexual and occasional sleuthing partner. And the sentiment expressed by the heroine is that she'll be strong as long as the hunk is by her side. Another unequal partner construct.
Then there's the plot. Not one, but two pseudo "mystery" plot lines. You know when it takes two such plot lines that the author really doesn't want to do the work to fully develop either one. There's absolutely no connection between the mystery in the first part (ghosts and hoaxes and bygone murders) and the murder/stalking in the second part.
There's a secondary couple (or should I say triangle), involving the hero's best friend, BF's ex girlfriend and his current wanna be girlfriend. The too-good-to-be-true insipid schoolteacher, another potentially interesting character made into a cardboard replica.
I like the Alaska setting. Unfortunately, I read a review in Amazon by someone who says she's an Alaska resident that many of the details provided by author are just fabrications, that there's been no research done to ensure what she wrote is authentic. Such a shame.
The author also mistakenly states that one of the hero's former bed buddies is a psychiatrist with a degree in psychology. That's incorrect: you have to have a medical degree to be a psychiatrist. You can be a clinical psychologist and interact with patients but you are not a psychiatrist.
The narrator is competent as usual, but a tad bland for my taste.

Alaska bound!
Well now I want to move to Alaska and work for Dylan Brodie! :)
I liked this story. The characters were interesting, capable and in the end, totally badarsed. Lane is way out of her comfort zone by coming to Alaska, with her dog, to decorate the lodge where Dylan and his family love.
What could go wrong?
Oh so many things.
The lodge was thought to be haunted.
They heard strange things, saw strange things.
It was all too much, then, other things started to happen. It seemed the more they looked into the Lodge’s past, the more unease grew around them. They (Dylan and Lane) has to fight the unknown, faceless assailant at every turn.
In the end, things worked out. They were able to find the bad guy and save the Lodge’s reputation. Lame and Dylan has a hard time fighting the budding love and lust growing between them and finally with the help of current events they are able to say those 3 little words!
