Granted extensive access to the group's archives along with several other sources, the author reveals the early Fellowship's conflicts and personalities, successes and failures, and dispels many of the myths found in such canonical texts as Dr. Bob and the Good Old Timers, Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, and A Brief History of the Big Book.

Story
What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

Story
In both sports and war, athletes and soldiers must work to have a mental edge to successfully deal with all that they encounter. While success for both is typically defined as overcoming their respective opponents, the reality is that their victories can never happen unless they’ve first won their internal battles. I Declare War is a practical guide for fighting our inner war, the struggle against sin that breaks us down and fills our lives with pain and suffering, in turn making us feel weak and inadequate.

Great info/Great stories
I bought the book to identify with a friend of mine who is currently in rehab and someone who constantly struggles with his alcoholism. I figured what better way to be there for him than to read (or listen) to some of the literature afforded to AA members. It's a great book, and I feel more up to the challenge of helping my friend throughout his healing journey.

Good book, but beware.
This is a dense book and it’s meant to give you insight to overcome this. I got this book cause my family has had and still does have problems cause of this vice.
I too questioned myself as to why i do this and wanting to stop.
It’s not easy getting through this book if you’re not patient with yourself.
