Billy Crystal is 65, and he's not happy about it. With his trademark wit and heart, he outlines the absurdities and challenges that come with growing old, from insomnia to memory loss to leaving dinners with half your meal on your shirt. In humorous chapters like ""Buying the Plot"" and ""Nodding Off,"" Crystal not only catalogues his physical gripes, but offers a road map to his 77 million fellow baby boomers who are arriving at this milestone age with him. He also looks back at the most powerful and memorable moments of his long and storied life, from entertaining his relatives as a kid in Long Beach, Long Island, and his years doing stand-up in the Village, up through his legendary stint at Saturday Night Live, When Harry Met Sally, and his long run as host of the Academy Awards. Listeners get a front-row seat to his one-day career with the New York Yankees (he was the first player to ever ""test positive for Maalox""), his love affair with Sophia Loren, and his enduring friendships with several of his idols, including Mickey Mantle and Muhammad Ali. He lends a light touch to more serious topics like religion (""the aging friends I know have turned to the Holy Trinity: Advil, bourbon, and Prozac""); grandparenting; and, of course, dentistry. As wise and poignant as they are funny, Crystal's reflections are an unforgettable look at an extraordinary life well lived.

Publisher's Summary
Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is Cooper's tell-all memoir. In it, he talks candidly about his entire life and career, as well as his struggles with alcohol, how he fell in love with the game of golf, how he dried out at a sanitarium back in the late '70s, and how he put the last nails in his addiction's coffin by getting up daily at 7 a.m. to play 36 holes.
This is the story of Cooper's life, and also a story about golf. He rose from hacker to scratch golfer to serious Pro Am competitor and on to his status today as one of the best celebrity golfers around - all while rising through the rock 'n' roll ranks, releasing platinum albums and selling out arenas with his legendary act.
Alice Cooper, Golf Monster is an unlikely and captivating tale full of wretched excess, life-saving redemption, ghoulish eye makeup, power chords, and five irons to the center of the green.
Critic Reviews
"What a blast from the past, and such insight to the future! Alice Cooper, Golf Monster shares Alice's personal life mission, interwoven with great stories and characters from the 60s through the present in rock and roll. Not to mention some wonderful golf tips and experiences, humorously presented. Thank you Alice, for a nice ride!" Pretty Good, Even Though it is Abridged
I was a little disappointed because I did not realize the audiobook was abridged. However the book was enjoyable, even though I am not a golfer. I am guessing being a hardcore Alice Cooper fan as well as an avid golfer is a rare demographic. But the golf stories did keep my interest. Also, I believe many of Alice's stories are not entirely accurate, for example, the chicken incident or the breakup of the original band. If you want more accurate Alice Cooper stories, read or listen to the original Alice Cooper bassist Dennis Dunaway's book.

Golf monster!
A top notch experience like only Alice Cooper can provide. As candid as his on stage rock-theater and as inspirational as any theological work, Alice shares the very darkest and very brightest moments of his life with us. This is as intimate a view into a celebrity’s private struggles and successes as anyone could share. If only our corporate and world leaders were as honest as Alice, the world would be a better place. Alice Cooper for President 2020!! You need to be Elected (pin totally intended)...but who to run as VP? Perhaps Joe Walsh or Ted Nugent would be on the short list. Thank you, Alice, for another experience of a lifetime.

Another Visit by Alice Cooper
this is the second time to enjoy the book by Alice Cooper, Vince. He is a good storyteller and easily biggest name dropper I've ever listened to. that is because he seems to have met everybody who's anybody.
In this book Alice takes his favorite pastime, playing golf, and tells us why it happened and how he does it. Like everything else he wants to be a star whatever he's in front of people.
If you are looking for some casual reading, or in this case, listening then I recommend this book. Of course if you don't know who he is it may not be that big of a deal. But for those of you who grew up with him then take a chance.

Golf School's Out
This is an entertaining account of Alice Cooper's rock career and golf addiction, and makes for very easy listening. Narrated by the man himself, I'd reckon thirty percent of the book is about golf and seventy about his career, although if I was being harsh I'd say it's hard to tell which he boasts most about! You might pick up some golf tips, you'll definately pick up some good stories and you'll listen to the end, which is about all you want from an audiobook.

Wonderfully narrated, thoroughly enjoyable listen
For those of us who remember the early Alice Cooper years, this is an honest and fascinating account of his rise to stardom and battles with alcohol, narrated by the man himself. I listened to it over two days and even rewound part of the book as I enjoyed some of the stories so much. Alice is a genuinely good guy and a brilliant narrator as well as being a devoted Christian and family man but he also has a wicked sense of humour and is a great mimic.
This is a really entertaining listen and would appeal to those who crave an insight into the rock and roll lifestyle of someone as successful as Alice and tells of his childhood, school days, how he met his bandmates and ultimately forged a solo career. I have listened to a great many Audible books and the narration of this is among the best I've heard. Keep on rocking Alice!

A good listen
As audiobooks get more and more popular as we're always on the move, Alice Cooper's 'The Golf Monster' is well worth 4 hours of your listening time. Read by the man himself, 'The Golf Monster' is a 12 chapter autobiography themed around how Alice's golf 'addiction' helped turn his life around (with each chapter intro explaining how to improve your golf game). Even if you're not interested in golf, Alice's life story is a fascinating listen as he overcomes adversity, becomes a superstar, battles through alcoholism and retains a bright outlook on life the whole way through. Alice is immensely likeable, interesting and never feels sorry for himself as he talks through the highs and lows of a fantastic career with an optimism and sense of humour. He's a real eccentric and he's quite inspiring as well. This book was written in 2007 but as any Alice fan will know he's still as sharp as ever these days, touring 'Paranormal' in 2017 and 2018, one of his best albums for decades. Thanks Audible for contiuing to stock more and more different books like these and not just the bestsellers you see at WHSmiths in train stations.

This is a fascinating autobiography about someone who took the show in music to a different level. As an outlet for his giving up alcoholism he took to golf. There are plenty of interesting stories of the rock lifestyle mixed with the odd anecdote on golf.
Highly entertaining and different to your average autobiography.

Alice Cooper, Golf Monster: A Rock 'n' Roller's 12
Not a bad listen but dont buy it if you are looking to get good advice on golf........ also name dropping throughout gets abit annoying.

golf not your bag?
I wasnt too sure about this book as its about golf, but it is brilliantly narrated by the man himself, with a lot of humour, and the comparisons to his life are amazing. I would recomend this book to anyone who A) likes Alice Cooper or B) likes golf. When I started listening I could'nt stop. Fantastic ,Brilliant, All Of the Above!!!!!

it's great to hear someone tell their own stories instead of someone else tell stories about someone else. it brings a unique deepth to the experience.

I wish I could take up golf
Would you consider the audio edition of Alice Cooper, Golf Monster to be better than the print version?
I feel so much closer to Alice Cooper than I thought possible. This is a great story for all those 'functional alcoholics' out there, including me
Who was your favorite character and why?
Alice meets John Daley
What about Alice Cooper’s performance did you like?
everything about the poorly disguised golf product promos... A bit gratuitous towards the end.
