The best one yet!

I absolutely LOVE this book and the audiobook just makes it so much better! Every book Mariana writes is amazing but this one is probably my absolute favorite! I love the slow burn, the genuine relationship building, the real life problems done in a way that still puts in you a different world! The way she shows the grief process and how it’s something you’ll have forever but doesn’t mean you can’t be happy and appreciate life is amazing.

Callie Dalton always is amazing and Gomez Pugh was the perfect Rhodes in my opinion! I’ll definitely be listening to this one over and over!

Boring

Sorry but this book had a very weak plot and the characters constant use of bad language put me off. The male narrators voice was weirdly low sounding forced.

The queen of slow burn

Mariana Zapata is always a one click buy for me and I have always fallen in love with her books!! There is no doubt I will be rereading this book many times just like her other ones. I love Rhodes and Amos so much!! This story is about grief, love and loss. Aurora losses her mom at a young age and she moves away from her home. She returns trying to find happiness once again in a place she was and has all the memories with her mom. There she meets the very grumpy Rhodes. I love they way there relationship evolves so beautifully. This definitely took up #1 spot of her books.

Absolutely LOVED!

I love every single book that Mariana Zapata has written, she never disappoints! This one is a story of loss, love, grief, and finding your way back home where true happiness awaits. I absolutely adore Rhodes and Amos, they are my favorite! Aurora was like a breath of fresh air, it was easy to love her and feel all her emotions. This one is another favorite for me!

As always, Callie Dalton did a great job!
Gomez Pugh was the perfect voice for Rhodes!

Meh from a favorite writer

There are a few of her books that I have listened to multiple times because the storyline and dialogue are so engaging, and this one was way off the mark.
The male narrator was flat and sounded too close to the microphone the whole time. Calle was good as always but the character was so blah I almost didn’t finish listening. The narrative was pointless and repetitive and left me hoping that MZ is ok because she can do so much better that this.

Narration terrible

This is a great book and story. I’m not even close to done listening but the people reading the story are so terrible. The man sounds like an automated killer hiding his voice and the main female character sounds like the automated voice on TikTok videos. The voices tarnish the story.

Love This Couple!

I read this in ebook format first, and this time I read along with the audio version. Truly brilliant. Callie Dalton narrates all MZ books since the second novel, and knows how to depict her characters perfectly. I can’t see another doing her books at all. This is the second time Gomez Pugh has worked on a MZ project, and in my opinion, no one is better at narrating a grumpy hero with gruff and hoarseness but can also deliver tenderness when it’s needed. I for one do not worry if they have narrated for an author before on previous books, that was then and this is now. I am caught up in the story, not who they might have been before. They make an impeccable pair and I hope to hear them together more.

There is something about a MZ book that just makes me smile. I look forward to each and every one, and it’s the only author that I have a re read schedule of her books to read one a month. Each book takes me to a happy place that I never want to leave. And I had been holding off reading this one, until I had the time to just sit and do nothing but get swept up in everything Rhodes.

The thing with a MZ novel, you know it’s going to be a slow burn romance, and I love them so much. The style she adapts is one I lean towards, in that she gives us pieces of information in small does and keeps us invested throughout the whole tale. Her characters and storylines are very authentic and it’s not hard to see either yourself or a friend in a similar situation.

Tobias Rhodes is a classic MZ male main character, he’s quiet and grumpy and only has a handful of people he trusts. It takes a while for him to warm up to anyone new, and he doesn’t seek out for new company. So when Aurora Del La Torre ends up on his doorstep, he’s totally confused. She’s come back to her hometown to seek solace and grounding from her busy and unusual life she had before. Over a period of time, we witness Rhodes and Ora becomes friends then lovers. The secondary characters on a MZ book are just as pivotal as the main ones, and if we are lucky, a few even get their own book some time down the track. Fingers crossed for one teenage boy.

I enjoyed it, I really did. I did nothing for two days just soaking up all the goodness. I was on the edge of my seat for some, and even had a few tears along with Ora. Dealing with loss is such a personal experience but acknowledging ones pain and anguish is universal. I so wanted to give Ora a huge hug and ease her suffering. I also appreciated that it wasn’t dealt with insignificantly, losing a loved one hurts! I loved the nicknames Ora gave to Rhodes as well as Amos, and one of Rhodes to Ora had me snort out loud. I got the reference straight away. This book isn’t as funny as some of her others but it is definitely a beautiful book you’ll not want to miss out on.

good story! sloppy narration editing

This book was charming and cute and had me marking quotes that hit close to home for me. They characters are easily relatable and I always love a grumpy/sunshine dynamic. more than anything it made me want to take a road trip to CO and witness the beauty described in the book during her hikes.

My only gripe is with the editing of the narration team. I have no issues with the voice actors but while listening, I go to my kindle and highlight quotes I enjoy and in doing so i noticed that the narrators have left out words here and there . In most cases they were minor things, not adding in the “he said/asked” it was always after he male narrator would speak and assumed it was for flow reasons and wasn’t something that bothered me, but then they also left a whole paragraph of Oras thoughts as well. Another point they messed up who said what line, on over three occasions left out little things like how Rhodes would look at her or how he’d say things those details in slow burns are key! we love the little looks and smiles and to not add them into the audio book is sloppy editing and takes away from the story.

Beautiful

A slowburn, truly, but one of her great ones! The story was captivating, the FMC engaging, the narration always great (I'm so so about the male voice but the female voice is wonderful) and I would recommend this book to anyone

A beautiful story

Although the story is mainly branded as a romance, the truth is that it's mostly the subplot. The actual story is about a woman in her early 30s who finds herself again after a failed marriage and a ton of trauma.

What I loved about the story is how relatable it can be. I believe that it portrayed perfectly how someone slowly and steadily puts themselves back together and how they challenge themselves every day to do better. The story has therefore to do more about the inner strength and the ability to overcome obstacles that hold you back.

As for the romance, well, if you like torturing slow-burn then this is for you. It takes a while to develop, but Rhodes really serves. I really liked to read about two characters who both had their issues slowly finding their way into each other's arms.

I'd recommend this book to someone who wants something easy and entertaining to read, who wants to take their time reading a book and who likes heartfelt stories.

MZ gets me every time with her slow burn romances sand Rhodes does not disappoint. Understanding the characters and having an ending that satisfies makes the story come to the perfect close.

Wonderful journey

I love this author, and the female narrator who narrates I think all of her books. The male narrator is fantastic too. I’ve been waiting ages for this book to be transformed into an audiobook and I was not disappointed!

The writing and story is top notch - wonderful imagery, interesting characters. Well worth listening to, it is definitely on my re-listen list!

Fantastic narration

I liked this book when it was first released. It’s set in a different part of the world than Mariana’s other books and doesn’t include a traditional athlete. The main character is forced to grow and adapt as hurdles are thrown her way. Callie Dalton is a Mariana staple and you might remember Gomez Pugh from Luna and the Lie. Their voices compliment each other nicely here with Dalton providing the ensemble cast perfectly.
